English people

[edit]

Please do not change "English" to "British" in leads of articles. It is as unhelpful to readers as changing Dylan Thomas from Welsh to British or Robert Burns from Scottish to British. I have undone some of your changes, but please revert any I have missed. Tim riley (talk) 20:37, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(copied from my talk page): I cannot imagine that you seriously think of Robert Burns as a British poet. The state to which Burns, Dylan Thomas et al was manifestly Great Britain/later the United Kingdom, but Dylan was Welsh, Burns was Scottish and e.g. Kipling was English. Statehood is separate from nationality. There is a Royal Scottish National Orchestra, an English National Opera, and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. I or other contributors will revert your changes if you persist. As, to be fair, I think you are well-intentioned but inexperienced in editing Wikipedia I am copying this message to your talk page. Tim riley (talk) 21:26, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Marosc9, I agree with Tim riley, and I think you will not find many here who agree with you on this issue. Wikipedia works by editors forming a consensus as to how to proceed. Consensus is Wikipedia's fundamental model for editorial decision-making. Please see WP:CONSENSUS for more information. There has been a wide consensus among editors here for many years that people of English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish origin not be lumped together as "British". -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:54, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Marosc9, you are completely wrong on this. Of course English, Welsh and Scottish still exist and I'm offended that you think differently. I think you need to reconsider this offensive view and cease in your quest to eradicate the mentioning of these nations from Wikipedia. -- CassiantoTalk 07:36, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Cassianto, "Offensive"?! Dear, dear, dear, we have got a thin skin haven't we.

DYK for Golem (Casken opera)

[edit]

On 1 July 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Golem (Casken opera), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that John Casken's opera Golem won the 1991 Gramophone Classical Music Award for Best Contemporary Recording? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Golem (Casken opera). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Golem (Casken opera)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
