Yoshizawa Hitomi

I noticed you rated the article about Yoshizawa Hitomi a 'start'. I do agree wth you on that one, but, compared to what I and others have written on, say, Michishige Sayumi or Konno Asami, I can but think one of two things:

  • Either your decision to rate Yossie's article as 'start' ws correct and the other articles should reflect that,i.e,be promoted, or;
  • The article you rated is really a stub.

Since I've written parts of the Sayumi article I can't really vote, so I'd like to your opinion on the issue. -- Ishikawa Minoru 23:18, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

You are always welcome to re-evaluate any assessments you think should be changed. I've reassessed these two. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 23:39, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. I know they still need to be worked on, but I think this is only fair. -- Ishikawa Minoru 23:45, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
What I'm saying is that I'm not the final word on assessments. I'm fine if you disagree with it and bring it up on the article talk page. You can even reassess it yourself and change the assessment if you wish. Anyone part of WikiProject Japan is welcome to assess articles. If you aren't a member (I haven't looked to see), feel free to join over here. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:04, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Translation

Hi! I read in your userpage that you speak Japanese and I thought you may be able to help me. I found an interview with Yuki Kajiura which would be quite useful in the .hack//Sign article, but it's in Japanese. Since I'm just starting to study the language, I can't translate it myself. So if it doesn't bother you, could you translate it for me? I would really appreciate it (the interview is in these three scans 123).Kazu-kun 04:24, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Hmm...it'll be a bit before I can do that as I have a few other items on my to-do list before that. If you don't mind waiting a bit, I can take a stab at them. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:02, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Article assessments

Hi, Nihonjoe. I've noticed you've recently assessed several articles I've been working on. I'd like to thank you for taking the time to review this work, and let you know I think your assessments have been fair in all cases. One question-- Some of the articles I've been contributing to were rated "Stub" long ago, but have since been expanded and improved. How would I go about getting someone to re-evaluate them? (I realize it's probably not against the rules for me to do so myself, but I'd feel a bit of conflict of interest in doing so.) Thanks again. Your work is appreciated. Dekkappai 01:17, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

If you don't want to reassess them yourself, feel free to post a request over on Wiki Project Japan's talk page. Some of my assessments may not be excellent as I'm doing a quick assessment in order to clear out the unassessed category. I think it's important to keep that category clear if possible so newly tagged articles are more easily seen and assessed. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:18, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, Nihonjoe. I'll do that. Dekkappai 02:21, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
By the way, Nihonjoe, I took a look at that backlog list and decided not to add more work by listing re-assessments. I'll do them myself eventually. Dekkappai 21:48, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good. Let me know if you have any questions. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 22:09, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Japan Rail Pass

Why was the Japan Rail Pass assessed as only a "B"? I think everything that could possibly be said about it has been said. I've gone over what it is, where to get it and how to use it. If you have any ideas as to what more could be said, please let me know and I'll work on it. Hosikawafuzi 03:54, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

In order to be assessed higher (GA, A, or FA), it would need to pass a review for that level. Feel free to put it up for review for Good Article status. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:20, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

That's a funny comic. It doesn't matter what the guy says, but do it without a citation and you'll receive a Wikipedia protester. Any chance of Randall Munroe[1] releasing that into Wikipedia as free content? -- Jreferee (Talk) 13:49, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Film credits glossary

I've just noticed the new page you started for the film credits glossary (which you also created over at Wiktionary); I think it's a great and extremely useful page. I've added a few entries to the glossary myself, so I hope these would be OK. I've also noticed that you haven't added some of the entries (such as gensaku, genga, dōga, etc.), which you had included in your first drafts for the page, would you be looking to add or expand them soon? Again, thanks a lot for starting this excellent page (^_^). ···巌流? · talk to ganryuu 21:09, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Adachi works

Thanks for improving the articles on Adachi's works. I'd been thinking on starting on those myself once I worked my way through the works of Kiyohiko Azuma, only you're doing a much more complete job than I would have. Instead, may I offer my services as a copyeditor with outside eyes, for when you get an article semi-stable? If, just let me know when you think something's ready. —Quasirandom 19:24, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Sure. I'm pretty much finished with the following: Itsumo Misora, Cross Game, Miyuki, Nine, Rough, and Slow Step. Let me know if you have any questions. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:28, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

JMDB/Giichi Nishihara

Hi Nihonjoe. A couple questions: I'm curious why the jmdb would be considered a "publisher" rather than a "work". Should I be using the "publisher" field to identify all websites in citations? Or only for database-like sites? Also, I've been translating Nishihara's biography やくざ監督 東京進出 as Yakuza Director Advances on Tokyo. Do you think that's a decent translation? (It's not exact, but more idiomatic than maybe Yakuza Director: Advance on Tokyo) Or should I provide any translation at all until I find one someone else has done, since my own translation might constitute OR? Dekkappai 16:29, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

It's a publisher because it's a constantly changing site, with more information being added daily. Therefore, it is publishing the information. You would use "work" if it was a static publication (like a PDF, for example), and the publisher would be the website publishing it on the web. I think the second translation sounds better, especially given that there are two parts to the title (the large space is usually interpreted as a colon). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:57, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Nihonjoe. I guess that means most of the websites we're using as sources are "publishers" rather than "works" then. But print materials would be "works"? I'll change my formatting to reflect that. Dekkappai 20:09, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
By the way, I see that there's a name template for the JMDB: Template:Jmdb name. There isn't one for titles, and, because of the way the database organizes titles (by year), creating one may not be feasable. Dekkappai 00:18, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

What are you doing on this page? You're totally screwing up the formatting and making the list look bad. I picked the template on purpose as it looks better than the other one. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 16:06, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

The old formating was just too crowded and looks god-awful by combining two different mini-episode titles into one small cell. The format I used separates the mini-episodes into their own fields and summaries can be easily added at a future time. --Farix (Talk) 16:10, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, that's the only benefit I can see for using the formatting you were using. Couldn't you do the same thing within the other template, though? ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 16:31, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Dear Nihonjoe, Thank you for your help. Despite your messages on my talk page, the above user is still quizzing me about my identity, even after I have told him that, if he wants to confirm my professional status, he may look on my first talk archive, where CH verified my status through a private email interchange. I do not understand what information he wants beyond my professional status. Many thanks, Mathsci 14:27, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Nihonjoe - would you please reconsider your decision to delete this page. Catweazle was one of the most popular professional wrestlers in Britain during the 1980s. As an example of this, here is the link to a 'best of' DVD featuring Catweazle (top centre) from Amazon.co.uk

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/images/B000EMGHD8/ref=dp_image_text_0/026-2355362-6684458?ie=UTF8&n=283926&s=dvd

Many thanks and best wishes. My appologies if this is not the correct page to post this comment on. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.37.238.30 (talkcontribs).

If you think there is enough in the way of reliable sources in order to verify this wrestler's notability, feel free to bring it up on deletion review. I've corrected the link above to the deleted article. Appearing on the cover of a a DVD with 4-5 other wrestlers is not enough to establish notability. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 22:45, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Am I repulsive?

Hi, Nihonjoe. I'm preparing to approach some Japanese actresses/models and companies (mostly in the field of adult entertainment) for free-user images, and have been using User:Videmus Omnia/Requesting free content for advice. He mentions the need for a professional-looking user page, and it's got me to wondering... When I first chose my editing name, I thought contributing here at Wikipedia would be a one-time fluke. As my editing has become more and more extensive, the rather childishly vulgar name I chose at first has begun to eat at my conscience. As a Japanese-speaker, do you find my name sufficiently repulsive to be a hindrance in asking for donations from the subjects and companies? Do you think it would behoove me to change my editing name? Or am I not nearly as offensive as I'd hoped to be at first?... Any advice on the matter will be very much appreciated. Dekkappai 23:57, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Given that you're contacting people in the adult entertainment arena, you shouldn't have to worry about your username offending people. If it idoes, it will, but I don't think it will (generally speaking). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:00, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
OK, Thanks! I'll forge ahead with one less doubt now. Dekkappai 00:03, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

We are thinking about moving Ganesha toward FAC, and if you have the time to give it a lookover with regard to image use I would appreciate it very much. I can guarantee that any suggestions you may have on that one will be considered carefully. Buddhipriya 01:13, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

The only image that seemed out of place was the one in the References section. It may be good to find a good place within the body of the article for that one. Other than that, the only suggestion I have is choosing one spelling of Shiva/Śiva and using that one consistently rather than alternating between the two. Alternating will likely confuse some who may think they are two different individuals rather than two spellings/romanizations of the same. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:28, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! I am going to copy your remarks to the talk section for the article and will get on it in the next couple of days. Buddhipriya 05:52, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Glad I could help. (^_^) ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:18, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
The picture has been moved, but the issue of normalizing spelling of Shiva is perhaps difficult. I think the inconsistencies you noticed may have been due to variations in how the name is spelled in quotations and citations. If so, we can't normalize them. Any suggestions on this point? Buddhipriya 04:29, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Not all of them are in quotations and citations, and those are the ones that should be changed. Perhaps add a note to the first alternate spellings indicating they are the same, or link each spelling at least once to the article on Shiva. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:49, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
I think I have cleaned out all the "Śiva" instances in article text (standardizing on "Shiva") that are not in quotes or book titles, etc. If you spot ones I have missed or want to illustrate a different way to deal with this variation, feel free to edit the article yourself so I can see clearly what you may have in mind. Thanks for the help! Buddhipriya 05:32, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Hikino

I found a few more books, and added them--included 2 that have been translated in Chinese and 1 into Spanish! I think the article has been fixed up enough, but some actual published tributes to his work or articles about him wouldn't hurt, if you know of any. DGG (talk) 06:38, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Suzuka

I'm wondering if you would be interested in helping get the Suzuka (manga) article up to GA rating. Most of the major editing is done, but any suggestions or help to improve it further would be appreciated. (Duane543 02:25, 27 July 2007 (UTC))

There doesn't seem to be any discussion over there at all. At first glance, the article seems to be pretty decent. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:46, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Well I recently archived the talk page and also the most of editing was done in my sandbox and then moved to the regular article. Even though the article has a fair number of references, most come from online. I think would be better if it had few more notable publications. In the Magazine Archive of the WP:MANGA, it shows that there is a article about Suzuka in the Newtype USA Magazine (May 2007, Volume 6 Number 5) which I think you have. Also Japanese references would be nice, but my problem is that I can only read Japanese with the help of a software translator, so it limits what I can find. (Duane543 16:22, 27 July 2007 (UTC))

Possible concerns with AfD discussions and flaming

Blood type

Hi, Nihonjoe. I noticed a comment you made at an AfD discussion that you remove blood types when you see them. (I, on the other hand, put them in when I see them blank...) I am not strongly attached to the field-- its removal wouldn't bother me much-- but I do feel that if it's there, it cries out to be filled. This field regularly comes up for discussion at Template talk:Female adult bio. At these discussions, I have argued for keeping it since my main editing activity is in the Japanese area, and, since it's a piece of information that is nearly always included in the profiles, it seems to be important to the Japanese media. Also, I know from personal research that this piece of information has been included in such profiles for several decades, so it is not just a passing fad. Anyway, if you have a good reason for removing the field, you might want to chime in at the latest discussion. Regards. Dekkappai 19:18, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
