August 2012[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Pirate Party Australia has been reverted.
Your edit here to Pirate Party Australia was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://twitter.com/piratepartyau) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, fansite, or similar site (see 'Links to avoid', #11), then please check the information on the external site thoroughly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creator's copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 11:50, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your feedback[edit]

Well, Wikipedia shouldn't really be a game per se, because then people might just be motivated to make minor edits like spelling fixes and categorizing articles rather than actually adding content. The act of adding, correcting, or improving knowledge gives me a lot of satisfaction and is my motivation in itself.

Hi I, Jethrobot. Thank you for you input about my idea. I understand what you mean about wikipedia not being a game and although it makes sense, I still personally believe adding a game layer would improve wikipedia. You mention that people would make only minor edits like spelling and categorizing instead of adding content and I believe you are right about that but I don't see that as being a bad thing because it improves wikipedia all the same even if its not as good as adding new content.
I think a game layer would get more people involved in editing even if they are only doing small edits after time they may choose to do larger edits for more points. When I say create a game layer I don't necessarily mean a leaderboard-esque feature. Personally for me I think receiving points would provide good feedback on edits and encourage better editing in individuals thus improving Wikipedia overall. Please let me know what you think of these ideas even if you don't agree with me.
(btw I apologise for the formatting and such, I am still pretty new to wikipedia)

No problem. We all figure out formatting as we go along. There are some people who treat Wikipedia as a game in terms of the total number of edits they make. You can even see how many edits the top 1000 or so editors have here: [1], so maybe you can consider that a goal? Though, this is kind of a leaderboard, I think. And I don't mean to say that spelling and grammar changes are unimportant-- readability is a big thing for articles. But content creation is important too, and often takes a lot more effort and time than other tasks. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 03:48, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and if you want to propose that idea more formally, you can make a suggestion at the village pump, where other editors will comment on it and either voice their support or opposition to the idea. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 03:50, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
