For your excellent work on Chitradurga Fort!! -- Belasd (talk) 18:05, 21 June 2009 (UTC) |
Hi, I have been looking at the references, which are somewhat confusing, to try to get a hook. What seems most feasible is to rewrite the lead a little and have a separate paragraph stating that the fort has 19 temples (18 in the upper fort and 1 in the lower) per the best reference - Sajnani, Manohar. "Encyclopaedia of Tourism Resources". Gyan Publishing House. p. p. 159. ISBN 8178350173. Retrieved 2009-06-21. {{cite web}}
: |page=
has extra text (help)
What do you think? Do you know what kind of temples they are? Jain? Hindu?
I will keep thinking on the subject of a hook.
Regards, —Mattisse (Talk) 14:10, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the changes made. The spelling for strattles needs to be changed to straddles (sits astride). The fort covers all the hill ranges. All are Hindu temples. I did not find any mention of any Jain temple in the references but only the Masjid inside the fort was built by Tippu Sultan. May be a hook related to the crevice (kindi) where Obavva killed enemy soldiers may appeal! I also faced the same difficulty of locating a suitable Hook which would appeal to some of the hardliners reviewing DYKs. I thought wiser counsel should prevail. That is why I did not venture to suggest a hook but requested you to suggest one. In case something strikes me, I will let you know by morning. By the way, since you are an Indophile, have you been to Chitradurga during your sojourns in India? Regards.
- Thanks for the spelling tip! I thought it looked wrong. I listed it here. I didn't use your suggestion as I just saw it now and have already struggled with the DYK template, but feel free to add it. There can be many alt hoooks. It all depends on having good references for the hook. No, I have never seen the fort but I want to. I am surprised that so little is written about it, as it sounds wondrous and was important to many dynasties. Regards, —Mattisse (Talk) 20:54, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you very much, Matisse. The Hook is perfect.I don't think I could have thought of it.Regards--Nvvchar (talk) 01:13, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

- I read your user page and found it very interesting. Some of my first articles at Wikipedia were attempts to write on India's water systems and on Indian temple architecture. Now I see you are a water engineer! Regards, —Mattisse (Talk) 20:29, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Sir,
Could you please provide me more information about the monument that is there in Angadipuram. I will try to get some photographs of the same. Thanks --Shijualex (talk) 07:58, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Panch Kedar
[edit]I currently have no referenced information on Panch Kedar, but I am ready to collaborate with you to research for the articles, though I recollect the basic legend of Panch Kedar. When do we start? --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:59, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- I will be out to Bangalore/Hubli till 13th July. In fact, I will be attending the WikiBangalore Meet on 5th. I should be able to make a begining in the next two or three days. I will inform you as soon as I make the dhacha. Thanks for the prompt reply.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:38, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- I have gathered some links at User:Redtigerxyz/Rudranath. Will take a look at Opera House. Let me research a bit on it. --Redtigerxyz Talk 10:12, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- I have seen a better pic on flickr and have asked permission to upload it from the photographer. --Redtigerxyz Talk 11:22, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, very useful references for Panch Kedar. I also tried to get flicker photos but was unbable to find a free license photo. My past efforts to get permission from flicker uploaders has not yielded results. I hope this time you will be successful. For opera house, I could not find any references which give dimensions of the building and also the latest status on its renovation by Abha Narayan's group of architects.

- I was searching flickr for Panch kedar, but could not locate much. Are there any photos you found (free or non-free). I have had a good experience with flickr users with a success rate of 50+ %. I will try to convince them. --Redtigerxyz Talk 04:52, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

- I will contact flickr users soon. I think we should crete an article in user-space then contact them. I usually contact flickr users with a link to our work. May be that does the convincing, but not always. --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:49, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Banashankari
[edit]Most temples near the Maharashtra-Karnataka border have a devotee following of both regions. I know about the goddess Shakambhari, but not about her Hubli temple. Though I will research. --Redtigerxyz Talk 11:36, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Deepa Stambas are not ventilation towers. They are used to fix lamps during the festival lights. They are usual fixtures in most Maharashtra temples. They are not used for staying. [2] talks about ventilation in towers, used for staying. They have openings so that air (ventilation) and light (sun-light/moon-light) comes in.
- Answering the prayers of the Devas (demi-gods) who appealed to the Lord to protect them from Durgamasura: Any god in particular, OR is Devi or Shakti mentioned in Kannada ref.
- It seems that the Rath yatra is part of the Banashankari jatre festival, so I suggest makingg the Rath yatra, a sub-section of the jatre. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:35, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- The Kannada article does not mention about prayer to Devi. The tourist guide mentions that the people "sought the Lord's help by performing a sacrifice at this place with a view to destroy the wicked demon Durgamasura...Godess appeared as per the directions of the Lord". The stamba or ventilator article reference has mentoned this temple also and hence I added it as a 'ventilator'. In fact, I came across this explantion for the first time. If you are convinced about the change made as per practice in Maharashtra, I don't have any problem at all with it. I go with it. As regards making the Rathyatra as a sub section of Jatra it is allright with me. I will be adding a few more sentences on History from the tourist guide shortly.--Nvvchar (talk) 07:02, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- IMO File:Shakambari temple near Badami.JPG is a better infobox pic than File:Banashankari Temple tank.JPG as it depicts the central temple and is clearer (better photo quality). --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:17, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Is the term "SHAKAMBHARI NAVARATRA" used for the festival in Pausha as this term is used in Maharashtra for the "Navaratri" celebarting goddess Shakambhari.--Redtigerxyz Talk 13:24, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- yes, the term is used.--Nvvchar (talk) 13:33, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- I could not find much info about the temple. If there nothing more to add please put it in article space. I researched SHAKAMBHARI NAVARATRA a little more, in Maharashtra temples like Bhavani temple, the Navaratri/a is observed from Pausha Shukla 7th and ends on full moon day. Banashankari Amma Temple says the festival starts on full moon day. --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:42, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- yes, the term is used.--Nvvchar (talk) 13:33, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- I observed you use American English, right? Most Indian articles are written in Indian English. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:39, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, since the reviewers are mostly from USA. I have transferred the article from my sandbox to main article page. You may post it as a joint article on DYK with an appropriate hook (you are very good at this also since the last article DYK hook has gone through very fast and the article Royal Opera House (Mumbai) has appeared today on the main page.--Nvvchar (talk) 06:51, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- nominated. Take a look.--Redtigerxyz Talk 14:05, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Panch Kedar
[edit]You sure do create articles very fast. But instead of creating Panch Kedar right now, I suggest let us create articles on other 3 temples so there are no red links in the Panch Kedar article. Let the current version on Panch Kedar remain on the sandbox. The other articles can be created on another sandbox. What do you think? --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:38, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- I am preparing articles for other Kedars also. I was thinking of putting a five article single hook. That is why I prepared the first one on Panch Kedar. I propose to expand Tungnath and create new articles on Rudranath, Madhyamaheswar and Kalpeshwar. I have now most of the references required for this work.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:02, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- The names of the temples are so long that a 5 article hook may not comply with the DYK length constraint. Think of 1 at a time, max. 2 or 3. I am requesting for photos on flickr with a link to the sandbox thus do retain it in present Panch Kedar article state. --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:25, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- I am working on Rudranath, as I have received partial permission to upload the flickr image. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:07, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Do you want me to add addtional text to it and also divide into sections with an Infobox?--Nvvchar (talk) 07:47, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Sure. Anyway I am co-nominating with you. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:23, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- You can make "Panch Kedar" infobox a template too. Also, IMO, only the 5 temples and Panch Kedar need to included in the template. The peaks' photos and Ukhimath can be put in the article in later sections. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:28, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- A good Samaritan named "rolling on" on flickr has given me permission to upload Rudranath temple and I have asked him for permission to upload pics of the other 2 temples. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:53, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

- Done with Rudranath. If you want to add, please go ahead. Tell me when done. I think I will move to Madhyamaheshwar next. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:57, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- I have added Tungnath article also. It needs to be expanded further to meet the more than five times expansion criteria for the stub article. If you have some addtional text you may like to add it. I will prepare the Kalpeshwar article since you are going to start the Madhymaheshwar article. I have seen the Chota Char Dham template. Since it has been shifted to the main article, should it now be retained under Panch Kedar article also? I am not conversant with template preperation (you may like to give me tutorial on this aspect). I should be able to complete the five articles including additions to the artcile in your sand box by tomarrow evening and we can post it on Sunday, provided you are able to get flicker photos of Kalpeshwar and Madhyamaheshwar.--Nvvchar (talk) 09:06, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- I got "Madhyamaheshwar" from flickr, will upload later and problems with the auto-upload tool. I do not edit extensively on weekends and usually take a break.--Redtigerxyz Talk 14:18, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- Madhyamaheshwar will take me till Tuesday. Would you please shift Tungnath to another sandbox becomes easier to edit and visualize the article. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:44, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

- Few observations
- "Rudranath, which is accessible through out the year by a short trek of about 3 km (1.9 mi) from the nearest road head" contradicts: "A motorable road is present upto the village Sagar - 5 km (3.1 mi) from Gopeshwar, beyond which a 20 km (12.4 mi)trek has to be undergone to reach Rudranath." in Rudranath
- As a religious destination/temple (architecture) article, History/Structure and Legends are more important than Geography. So I suggest we shift Geography down before Access by trekking--Redtigerxyz Talk 15:04, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- The distances are a bit dicey. Various figures are quoted in different references including books. I think we should use figures given in the Temple Committee's web site. I have shifted Geography section.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:29, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
