Lidz talk speech

The comments by the self-described paid publicist for Lidz have considerable explanatory value about the operations of what I'd previously thought was a self-respecting publisher, and they're certainly about the article. So please revert yourself and let them stand. (If you think that I, as coperpetrator of the despamming -- or desecration? -- of the article am in any way offended, you're very wrong. If anything, this kind of indignation amuses me.) -- Hoary (talk) 22:26, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

The commentary might be related to the article, but it certainly doesn't appear to be related to improving the article. Calling those that have recently worked to improve (by beginning to remove the obvious promotional material) the article monkeys has nothing to do with article improvement. Hearing the insulting feedback of the subject's publisher has nothing to do with article improvement. I don't see anything constructive in the comments I removed. I have absolutely no intention of reverting myself. That said, I won't war with you if you feel like restoring the attacks and other worthless commentary. --OnoremDil 22:32, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
I've put it back. The poster believes that it's related to the improvement of the article, and in a sense it is. You and I both know that he's completely mistaken, but deletion of the comment smacks of censorship. And I for one am entirely accustomed to being referred to as a chimpanzee or worse: this kind of thing again says much more about the writer than the target. -- Hoary (talk) 00:06, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Censorship 3

Hey you guys! I guess you double dog dared me, cool. This is like the '60s, but without jail. First fun I have had at Wiki.

Just picked up my wife, and her laptop. I think I'm going to do some cut/paste from my Mac to the PC.

Busy weekend, will start Sat in Pilsen, Sun at Lincoln Cemetery in Ellwood. Lots of driving, lots of waiting. I'm sure I can figure out this wireless deal. Kids will help, before leaving for Vegas. I bet their hotel will be "wired", too.

Or. Someone in "cyberspace" could get real. Far less messy, I would think.

I'm going home now, later, venue to be decided. wm5200 posting on the lam.70.91.213.37 (talk) 22:17, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Your inability to understand the process despite dozens of people trying to explain it to you has absolutely nothing to do with censorship. I have no doubt that you'll be able to hop around various IPs. I also have no doubt that if you use them to continue your crusade, they will be swiftly reverted and blocked. Have fun wasting your time. It's not much work on this end. --OnoremDil 22:23, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

what's with everyone and emily on wordgirl being naked?

I have reverted edits saying that emily was seen without her clothes several times. I even went on their talk pages and said to them that that is unsourced, and that kids shows do not show naked girls. Why are they constently doing this, are they people who look at porn and use it where ever they feel like? Are they trying to make us think that wikipedia is vulnerable when it's not? What's going on with these editors, any ideas? N.I.M. (talk) 18:51, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

www.softpedia.com

I don't know how to communicate with you; what are u saying about the links cited are not sources. Why YOU DON'T GO TO www.softpedia.com and download and install Babylon translater, now I don't remember which one, if you search, on the first page if hits you get 3 or 4. Just install one or two of those and see what a nice trojan you get. It happened to me about 3 months ago, and THIS IS NOT PROOF THAT we have to warn users about that? And if you try to download something, how many clicks you make to get something... THAT IS NOT "Disguised Ads? — Preceding unsigned comment added by KeepInternetSafe&Clean (talkcontribs)

I don't care if your comments are true. There has to be a reliable source for it. (I don't keep linking that for no reason) --OnoremDil 15:24, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources. If one reliable source says A, and another reliable source says B, do not join A and B together to imply a conclusion C that is not mentioned by either of the sources. This would be a synthesis of published material to advance a new position, which is original research.[1] "A and B, therefore C" is acceptable only if a reliable source has published the same argument in relation to the topic of the article.

The individual statements are sourced in relation to the topic. The statements are separate sentences. Each individual statement is not combined to reach a conclusion not stated in the source. There is no conclusion C. The sentences are not joined together. I understand the way it was written before it could of been perceived as SYN. After reading SYN again I think there is no SYN in the Larry Sanger page. QuackGuru (talk) 05:45, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

I still completely disagree on the synth point. You are making a comparison that isn't supported by a single source. Also, after further thought...why is this on Sanger's page at all? Any reliably sourced discussion comparing the websites would belong on the articles for the sites. This seems a bit undue. --OnoremDil 06:05, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
According to SYN the text is not making a comparison to reach a conclusion C. Sanger and some of the sources do make a comparison anyhow. QuackGuru (talk) 06:26, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Re: Scarmudgeon

I happened across the edit war involving Scarmudgeon. I've had dealings with this editor who I suspected was a sock puppet of User:Aaron boucher: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Scarmudgeon/Archive. The case was closed for lack of evidence but for what it's worth, User:Aaron boucher claimed that Scarmudgeon was his wife but now it appears that Boucher is using the Scarmudgeon account (as I suspect he was all along). Not sure if you're aware of all this. I'd actually forgotten about this editor/sock until I saw the 3RR notice. There's also the article on Aaron Boucher which is probably created by Boucher or his wife. Just to let you know since you are now dealing with him. As you can see from his comments, he's quite the charmer. freshacconci talktalk 19:41, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

I hope that I'm not "dealing" with him. I'd rather be done. Seems mostly like the kind of stuff you can get away with if you take long enough breaks. I don't see it ending well if the edit warring starts up again in 46 hours. --OnoremDil 19:52, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm not saying that he needs to be a NBA level player. There needs to be independent sources that discuss him, and I wasn't able to find any. Also, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. What he will or will not do this fall is yet to be determined. --OnoremDil 20:48, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Julius Malema

I had a look at the edits that cut about half the article. In my view they were well justified, and if I could justify spending the time and trouble, I would have done much the same. The problem we have is that the subject of this article is a very controversial figure, but only his detractors are active on Wikipedia. The result is that a huge quantity of minutiae get posted, all of it derogatory, and nobody ever takes issue with it. There is some discussion about that on his talk page. By the way, I am not a fan of Julius Malema by any means, and if it were up to me, the article would probably be as biased as it is. I just think that all these little petty factoids make the case against him weaker, not stronger. pietopper (talk) 20:02, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

I won't revert again...and wouldn't have in the first place if I hadn't missed that a user who had renewed the discussion on the talk page was accidentally logged out for the edit. I checked the IP's contribs and thought it was a drive-by whitewashing of the article. I still don't think that such broad blanking is justified, but I really don't care about the subject much one way or the other. --OnoremDil 20:28, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi there, I wanted to let you know that I just happened to come across the San Pedro, Los Angeles article and seen your edit summary regarding the external links. I took a look at them all and removed those that didn't look to belong (businesses, local blogs etc.) A number were for the City of Los Angeles in general, or even just southern California, and not directly specific to the subject. It's posible I could have removed more, but wasn't sure on some them, however the list now looks less like a directory. Cmr08 (talk) 04:20, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

You can remove block notices while the relevant block is in effect now?

At User talk:Chelo61 you removed an active block notice. Yet as far as I am aware you cannot remove block notices while the relevant block is in effect. Just to be clear: I am not asking you to reinstate the block notice and I won't be either; I just want some clarification on this. By the way: I was once told off for removing a block notice after a block had expired (The user who told me off thought my block was still active so they thought I was removing an active block notice and told me off for it).

Undelete Images Need Help

Need Help undeleting photos discussed on my talk page

Those photographs were valuable, historic evidence that documented an incredibly dynamic environment that is home to critically endangered species such as the Kemp's ridley Sea Turtle and the Perdido Key beach mouse whose numbers were down to 40 individuals at one recent point in history. Had they not been deleted they would have been used to compare to current photos in order to document and understand how the sand dunes on this unique barrier island form and change over time, how the dunes are used and effected by native species and humans and how we can better protect these CRITICALLY ENDANGERED SPECIES. Joey Eads (talk) 17:48, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, but I doubt you'll find much help in getting the images undeleted. They were apparently copyrighted by Google Earth and Panoramio. That you think they were valuable doesn't mean that Wikipedia should host copyright images with false licenses. If you wanted to maintain a copy of them for personal use, you should have done so on your own computer. If you are arguing that the images copyright actually belongs to you, then you'll have to provide evidence of that. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information. --OnoremDil 18:15, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

The photos on Panoramio and Google Earth are of the same area but are not the same images. I personally took the photos and I personally released them under unrestricted usage license according to the rules on Wikipedia well before any images of the area appeared on Google Earth. Wikipedia previous versions/archives serve as sufficient proof of this egregious error and that the photos were indeed mine before releasing them to Wikipedia according to Wikipedia rules for doing so. Please see WP:IAR and the 5 pillars of Wikipedia if you are at all unsure about difference between the letter of the rules and the spirit of the rules.Wikipedia:Five pillars Joey Eads (talk) 19:07, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

People who actually add new content, start new articles and add relevant information to the Wikipedia shouldn't be hindered by people who do not or can not. Admins should be able to tell the difference between beneficial edits and contributions from vandalism shrouded in pedantic enforcement of 'the rules' ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joey Eads (talkcontribs)

I'm willing to accept that an error has taken place, but IAR and the 5 pillars have absolutely nothing to do with this. The images were deleted because they were thought to be copyright violations. IAR wouldn't have applied in that situation. I can't see the images or their old descriptions, but I notice in another discussion that it says the image descriptions mentioned they were on Google Earth and Panoramio. If you added those descriptions when you uploaded them, that would seems to contradict that it's just the same area but not the same images. Perhaps a message on the deleting admin's talk page explaining the situation could convince them to take another look...though I'd suggest restricting the discussion to Wikipedia policies and not what creatures may or may not live because of an images deletion. --OnoremDil 19:25, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

If you're looking to make it a fight, please don't bother leaving messages for me here. Do what you need to do...but I'm not stepping on the WP:BATTLEGROUND. --OnoremDil 03:55, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

A polite note, for once

Onorem, you need a nice person posting on your talk page, and today, that's me. Wow, the abuse you get here is impressive. Here, have a breath of fresh air with my post.

I just added a new section to Talk:Sesame Street about your revert of yourself. You really should trust your instincts, so I reverted you back. You were right about the content not deserving its own section. Please read what I wrote and express your opinion about it. Also, keep up the good work here. Block

That is exactly the point the editor was making. The item was posted before the IP was blocked so there is no reason to remove it. 78.146.213.194 (talk) 15:01, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

The person behind the IP was blocked prior to the post. "They" were just evading their block at the time. --OnoremDil 17:03, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Music composition

Hello Onorem. The only reason I edited those articles was because the Muscial notes to the two songs are so different. I didn't want a inaccurate post on the articles.

Fifa World cup

Dear Onorem, I have created the necessary blanko templates on my user pages. Could you insert my "edited" templates into those blanko ones, so that I, on my user subpage, get all my eight (to this date, six from A to F where F is the Portugal-Cameroon one) groups on my User Page. --Eu-151 (talk) 12:06, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

  1. ^ Jimmy Wales has said of synthesized historical theories: "Some who completely understand why Wikipedia ought not create novel theories of physics by citing the results of experiments and so on and synthesizing them into something new, may fail to see how the same thing applies to history." (Wales, Jimmy. "Original research", December 6, 2004)
