When are we Going to See Proof that Azaris are Genetically Turkic

Please keep an eye on Azari and the talk:Azari. I have started the following in the discussion.

It has been ages since these citations have not been verified. Verification is needed. If not delete the material. the amount of time granted has been generious. The Azaris Iranian background has been verified through various scientific and academic sources, but the Turkic claim has not. The only think that has been verified is the Turkic langauge. 72.57.230.179

But Azerbaijani in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani spoken in Iran are the same language, so shouldn't it be in the same tepmlate? —Khoikhoi 01:56, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

That's the point I was making, if Template:User mo-2 uses both scripts, along with Template:User mn-1, Template:User sh-1—shouldn't we have a template that includes both the Cyrillic and Persian scripts in, because it's the same language? Having two different templates might confuse people into thinking they're distinct languages. —Khoikhoi 02:03, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Exactly, which is why I suggest that we have both scripts in one template, something for all kinds of Azeris (including the old guys who might still use Cyrillic ;)) But then again, maybe the Rep. of Azerbaijan people might not be too happy, I still support having one template however. —Khoikhoi 02:10, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Two Articles in need of your attention

There are two entries at Wikipedia, which have falsely created -- they are Turco-Persian and Turko-Persian Tradition. Both entries are factitious. I have requested the entries to be deleted. My reasons are:

The term Turko-Persian Tradition (or Turco-Persian) does not exists academically and it is a factitious entry! Check the Encyclopaedia Iranica to confirm -- The correct name for that culture is the Persianate culture not the "Turko-Persian". Turkophones (mostly of mixed race and Persianized in culture) only spoke in Turkic dialects and were in the military. That is not enough participation in creating and forming the culture to deserve the name "Turko-Persian Tradition" – This is misinformation. All the elements in that area, which have to do with tradition and culture, were drawn from the Iranian culture (Persian, Kurdish, Azari, Baluchi, Tajik, Luri, Gilaki, Talishi, Mazandarani, etc.), and the Islamic faith, not much Turkic elements (like shamanism, yurts etc.) were incorporated in. That is what makes the name "Turko-Persian" an imaginary one and therefore the entry should be deleted.

Persian culture

Sure! I will work on it when I have some free time. It is indeed true that religions have influenced Iranian culture and vice versa. Perhaps Ta'zieh which is inspired by historical as well as religious events is one of those examples. Religions inspired several Iranian festivals. Iranians have special dishes and cookies during Ramedan etc which are now a part of Iranian culture. Also sufi tradition has had manifestations in Iranian literature and poetry. However religions especially Islam have some aspects that are not considered a part of iranian culture (like khoms, zakat, jahad, standard prays etc). The latters are infact culture independent. Techniques of casualty counts that might be of interest

I realized you might not regularly read the talk page where I first made this note, and it's a little off-topic there. Anyway, since you seem interested in methods of estimating casualties, here's a reference and link that might be interesting.

An addition that may be of interest: see Electro-optical MASINT#Mass graves, and other material in that page, for means that have been used for remote sensing of clandestine mass graves. You may want to look at an article in the Canadian Society of Forensic Science Journal, http://ww2.csfs.ca/CSFS_Journal.aspx?ID=46&year=2006, to see how the techniques were used in real applications.

I do find your suggestions on estimation to be, in the best sense of the word, creative, and they made me think. Thank you.

Talkpages

Hiya, I reverted your change at Scythian's talkpage. Per WP:BLANKING, users are allowed to remove comments from their own talkpages. You can do pretty much anything that you want to your own talkpage, too. The only comments that probably shouldn't be removed are unblock requests, and a few other kinds of official admin-placed notices. Don't worry about deleting warnings, really. Any administrator worth their salt, knows to check a user's talkpage history, rather than just looking at what's openly available on the live version of the page.  :) Hope that helps clarify, --Elonka 23:31, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Sami Yusuf

Hi, I saw you add a section to that page a few times after some people removed. Please don't re-add it again. YouTube is not a reliable source, since anyone can upload videos there and say anything they want. Also, self-references to Wikipedia are to be avoided at all times except in a select few cases (such as the article about Wikipedia). Hello Persian Magi, I just wanted to add on to what J.delanoy's comment, the OTRS query by Yusuf must be respected (per policy, so it does not hurt to notate this). It should not however be posted publicly on the article as it is a self-reference and does not contribute to the content of the article (as J.delanoy mentioned). Regardless of what one may ascertain from the interview you found on YouTube, YouTube is considered a link to avoid as outlined here. The opinion that is taken to be the official stance on Yusuf's ethnicity is the one which he specifically provided in the query as it is straight from his own mouth and can be verified.
