Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Punjabiplayer. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Search My Expert, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:55, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on these sanctions. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

You still have not adequately responded or taken action to the inquiry regarding your appearance as an undisclosed paid editor. If you make any additional edits without complying, you may be blocked from editing. DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:11, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely for advertising or promotion and violating the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. This is because you have been making promotional edits to topics in which you have a financial stake, yet you have failed to adhere to the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a form of conflict of interest (COI) editing which involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is strictly prohibited. Using this site for advertising or promotion is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia.

If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, please read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. For that request to be considered, you must:

  • Confirm that you have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements.
  • State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
  • Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future.

thank you :) Punjabiplayer (talk) 09:42, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am writing to appeal my block due to undisclosed paid editing, as stated in the block notice. I acknowledge that I did not fully understand the Wikipedia Foundation's Terms of Use regarding paid contributions and failed to disclose my paid editing activities.
I understand now that transparency and honesty are crucial to maintaining the integrity of Wikipedia. I sincerely apologize for not disclosing my affiliations and I am committed to correcting this mistake. I would like to disclose that I was editing articles related to technology companies on behalf of [SearchMyExpert]. I now recognize the importance of these policies and how my actions may have affected the trust and reliability of Wikipedia.
Going forward, I commit to fully complying with all of Wikipedia’s policies, especially those concerning conflict of interest and paid editing. I will ensure all my contributions are disclosed in accordance with the guidelines, and will make a concerted effort to engage positively with the community to enhance the encyclopedia, rather than just editing for paid interests.
I appreciate the work of the administrators and the broader community in upholding the quality and neutrality of Wikipedia, and I am eager to contribute constructively under the proper guidelines. Thank you for considering my appeal. Punjabiplayer (talk) 17:46, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(Non-administrator comment) No one will see your appeal, unless you format it as instructed in the block notice.
And please write it yourself, we want to hear from you and not some AI chatbot. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:57, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Upon reflection, I am troubled by the edit history of this account and the responses you have given do not assuage my feelings, so I decline to unblock you. You may make a new unblock request for someone else to review, and any decision by that admin will not involve me. 331dot (talk) 15:10, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I examined the edit history of this account(it's not private, you can too). You created this account on December 7, 2016, made one edit 14 minutes later, then did not edit again until 7 years later when you began editing about Search My Expert. Any particular reason you didn't edit in that span of time? What contributions do you intend to make? 331dot (talk) 19:31, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello 331dot,
Thank you for reviewing my edit history. I initially created my account out of curiosity and made a single edit, but personal commitments kept me away until recently. My interest in contributing has now been revived, especially in areas like technology, history, and science, where I can add value. I acknowledge my mistake in not disclosing my previous paid edit for SearchMyExpert and i am committed to following Wikipedia's guidelines in all future contributions.
Thank you for allowing me to explain my situation.
Best regards,
Punjabiplayer (talk) 20:19, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thank you. How did Search My Expert come to find you to edit about them? 331dot (talk) 20:31, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, One of my friends involved with Search My Expert reached out to me due to my tech background and writing experience. They needed help improving their Wikipedia article but didn't fully grasp the importance of disclosing paid edits. I've since learned about the necessity of transparency and am committed to adhering to Wikipedia's full disclosure guidelines. Punjabiplayer (talk) 20:37, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The draft that currently exists was created by you, not someone else. Did a draft exist previously? 331dot (talk) 20:41, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
no, i created this draft but you can surely delete it. Punjabiplayer (talk) 20:42, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have other accounts, that either you're using actively or that are waiting in the wings? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 05:26, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
no this is it Punjabiplayer (talk) 06:04, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you intend to make other paid edits in the future, be it for other friends or a formal client? 331dot (talk) 08:16, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I will focus solely on contributing voluntarily, ensuring my edits enhance Wikipedia without any conflicts of interest. I am committed to complying with all of Wikipedia’s guidelines and contributing positively to this valuable resources only. Punjabiplayer (talk) 10:39, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
