Years Active

[edit]

"the band formed in 1966 yes, but that does not make them "active" ". I don't understand. Simone Jackson (talk) 15:38, 01 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The band formed in 1966, I agree. But they were not active until 1967, when they got their first record deal. — R2 15:47, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, their first record, Big Boy is relased in 1968, but recorded in 1967. P.S. Are radios realiable source? Simone Jackson (talk) 18:00, 01 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Their first record deal was in 1967 and their first single was 1968. Neither of these are 1966. I don't believe radios are reliable sources, no. — R2 16:07, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of record-breaking runs…

[edit]

You seem to have broken one yourself (at least for the mainspace). – iridescent 15:55, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, I can't believe it's 3000, it really doesn't seem like that many lol. :) — R2 17:30, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As the post said, keeping that article free of BLP violations really MUST be a nightmare! :-/ CarpetCrawler (talk) 17:54, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have good friends that help me. :) — R2 18:07, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

More pinging necessary

[edit]

I apologize for all of this messaging, but I have another question. Feel free to check out the No Jacket Required talkpage for details and have a nice day! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 18:26, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Replied, honestly, it's ok to use as a source :) — R2 18:36, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've done some more work to the article (My internet went down before I could contact you,) but I've got a response to the citation issues and the remix album suggestions. I don't know if you'd like to add your comments, but I thought I'd go ahead and notify you anyway. Have a nice day! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 01:41, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I have addressed all of your concerns. Feel free to take another look and see if you spot any problems. If not, I'll begin to prepare sending it over to the FAC. :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 16:36, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your comments, take as much time as needed! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 20:59, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fashion Gaga or GaGa

[edit]

Hi, I recently put a quote for the fashion section of Gaga or GaGa. I do not see why, the quote was a bit weird though. Anyway could you please tell me why. P.S. Legolas went to the Fame Ball tour, but you probably already know.Has Anybody Seen My Disco Stick? 23:43, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I removed it because the fashion section is long enough, we must not give sections undue weight. The section was getting rather repetitive. — R2 23:52, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

i dont think it needs to be repetitive, but fashion is a HUGE part of lady gaga and her performance, persona, music, etc so i think it should be a larger section of the article if we can find more information that isnt repetitive --RCNARANJA 18:58, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The section is large enough, we don't need daily updates on her changing appearance or what cell phone she has. — R2 18:59, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

King of Pop (a little bit organized)

[edit]

What do you think? MaJic (talk) 06:52, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see what you've done, I'm not sure I like it. Currently they are order according to their announcement date, with all the releases for each country are next to each other. That said, it's just my preference. For best bet is to set up a discussion on the article talk page and invite all active members of WP:MJJ to give their opinion. — R2 14:00, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ok no prob. PS: i disagree with you about Superbu's edit. I would at least list it as "Rock With You (Original LP Mix)" [seeing as how that's how its labeled on the actual package]. I'm sure anyone reading the article would be wondering why it has "RWY" twice. MaJic (talk) 21:37, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, that's a good point, feel free to reinsert that. — R2 22:28, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
yes, and i also hyperlinked it to the RWY article; this way, they can read about the differences without having to add it to the KOP article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MaJic (talkcontribs) 22:42, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if I missed the boat here, I'm just a bit swamped at the moment. When you take this to FAC let me know and I'll give it a run through. Good luck. By the way are you are admins yet. A nom from me might be the kiss of death, but the offer is there; your a fantastic editor and a cool customer. Ceoil (talk) 08:37, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'll let you know when it's at FAC stage. I ran in December, but withdrew on 80%. I'm really not going to run again, at least not this year anyway. Thanks though, I appreciate it. — R2 13:54, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't know. Withdrew on 80? Whaaat?! You are so content orientated your exactly the type of person than we need to have more fancy flashing buttons. Pity. Ceoil (talk) 15:09, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, one day, maybe. Just not for a long time. Maybe when the RfA process improves, currently it's just too political and nasty. — R2 16:24, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The length of Say Say Say might not be an issue...

[edit]

...judging by this GA article, lol. It passed the GA review last month. I found it through this length-related discussion at GAN. Pyrrhus16 16:52, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly small articles pass all the time, so long as the editor has got all the info available. The length of Say Say Say certainly might not be an issue, I haven't looked for sources yet. I'll do it though, asap. — R2 17:40, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There are no length limits at either FA or GA; Say Say Say is longer than Hellingly Hospital Railway which passed as a Featured article a couple of months ago, and far longer than Laurence of Canterbury who is about to do the same. – iridescent 21:45, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Whoa, I didn't know that. Now you've put ideas in my head ; ) Pyrrhus16 21:54, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Friends, I never said there was a limit, just that I'm sure we can find some more information before GA. — R2 22:07, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you want comparators, My Happiness (song) and Hey Baby (No Doubt song) are FAs of about the same length and with a similar structure as this one. As long as you satisfy the criteria, in some ways FAC is easier than GAC, as there are more people there willing and able to help resolve any issues. (R2 I know you're familiar with both, this is for Pyrrhus's benefit.) – iridescent 22:16, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, thanks. :) Pyrrhus16 22:26, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the "Say Say Say" links. Leave a message when you think it's good to go. :) Pyrrhus16 19:54, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, still doing some more looking. It took me about 30 minutes to find those two links, so it's not easy lol. — R2 20:33, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the links, I've added them into the article. Is it good to go now? Also, I think I've found the James Bulger/Heal the World petition. Pyrrhus16 18:00, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's good to go, thanks. :) — R2 18:29, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tours

[edit]

Hey Real, can you tell me under which wikiproject will concert tours be in? Also the Gaga song "Poker Face", I have developed a bit with detailed chart performance and music details. could you please review it once and check what all it is missing for GA. I'm planning to move it up. --Legolas (talktome) 09:08, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For the Wikiproject, I have no idea, I suspect it falls within the general music project. I rarely edit obscure music articles (tours, awards, discographies). I generally stick to biographies, albums and singles. I'll look over "Poke Face" in the coming days for you. Best. — R2 13:20, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Can you come to the LoveGame article talk page? A cnocern has been raised regarding the single cover. Its complete sockpuppetry. --Legolas (talktome) 15:32, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On behalf of the Wikipedia:Kindness Campaign, we just want to spread Wikipedia:WikiLove by wishing you a Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 15:45, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Do you know where i can find more info on the date of Prince's name change? I am not sure if it was a press release or a full conference. thank u. MaJic (talk) 23:15, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New Madonna articles

[edit]

Hey Real, can you please review the new versions for "Live to Tell" and "La Isla Bonita". We are a little stuck at the music structure for Live to tell and the Critical and commercial reception for La Isla Bonita. Please help. --Legolas (talktome) 10:46, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, eventually. I'll look over LoveGame first, sometime today. — R2 12:37, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Did you take a look? --Legolas (talktome) 03:43, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Conspiracy

[edit]

Do you have this book? I bought it a while back, it's really well written. If your thinking about taking People v. Jackson to GAN in the future, then this book would be awesome to have. Pyrrhus16 18:31, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know of it, and would love to read it, just haven't purchased it yet. — R2 02:54, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know if you were finished stating your concerns with the article, so I haven't done any work yet. I just wanted to ask you to leave a note on my talkpage when you finish, because there's a small chance that I may not be on much tomorrow. Take your time, however! Thanks, and have a great day! CarpetCrawler (talk) 06:16, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, no problem. I'll take a look at it and do some stuff, now. :) And I'll drop you a line if I have any questions. Have a great day! Thank you so much for going above and beyond in helping me with this article! CarpetCrawler (talk) 20:22, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Once again, thank you very much. I have two things to ask you, so please whenever you have free time take a look. Also, would you rather I work on everything that I can, then ask you questions, or should I do what we did last time, where I work on one section of concerns at a time? Have a great day, kemosabe! I'm a bit late. But did you try to ask for the sales info? --Efe (talk) 11:01, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, my Wiki time has been severally hampered in recent days, just had enough time to check my long watchlist. Thankfully we have updated sales anyway now. :) — R2 15:38, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Charts

[edit]

This website doesn't have the UK chart information, for some odd reason. Would you happen to know of any reliable website that would have such information? Thank you! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 02:29, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know of any web sites that archive old UK chart positions. I think its a case of finding a specific web links. Sorry about that. — R2 03:23, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not even if it's charts for a single from 2003, like the song in the link above? Damn. Oh well. I'll see what I can find. CarpetCrawler (talk) 06:53, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

THANK YOU SO MUCH, BOTH OF YOU! :) I'm sorry, I just don't know what is considered reliable and what isn't... CarpetCrawler (talk) 19:30, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

La Isla Bonita

[edit]

hi Real. I nominated La Isla Bonita for GA. Please take a look. By the way what about that Madonna wikiproject? Are we still starting it? --Legolas (talktome) 13:23, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like a good article and will probably pass GA. I'm currently going through something of a Wikibreak, just checking my watchlist twice a day. — R2 13:33, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. I wish you would add the Gaga singles also on your watchlist. I want them for GA also. P.S. Which are your favourite Madonna songs? After "La Isla Bonita" I will be working on "Open Your Heart" and "True Blue". Then, since the True Blue era will be moved to GA, I will move on to the "Bedtime Stories" era - one of my favourite. Will you help me out then? --Legolas (talktome) 08:07, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I seriously can't handle the work load at the minute, the Britney Spears new singles/album is time consuming enough. My favorite Madonna songs include "Rain", "In This Live", "The Power of Goodbye", "Get Together", "Take A Bow", "Frozen", and "Drowned World". — R2 14:18, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I also have the Britney album and singles on my watchlist and im helping as much as i can. I have over 100 pages on my watchlist. Yeah I know it gets tiring sometimes to revert. Well I have started working on "Open your Heart" and "True Blue". La Isla Bonita nd Live to Tell will easily pass GA, and Papa Don't Preach is in a position to be moved to FAC, which i say it will get it. Anyways you are one of the contributors i look up for advice. Hope you will be advicing me further. I would have started the Madonna wikiproject myself but I don't know how to. Lets see, maybe in future. I still have too much work regarding the Gaga articles esp Poker FAce and the discography page. IPs are driving me mad!!! even using TW sometimes fail. I think I'll request for protection. P.S. that Dance-pop sockpuppet has been blocked again so I think a bit of relief now. --Legolas (talktome) 05:28, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have done everything you have asked, but still have some questions. Anything without a check mark by it is something I have a question about. Take as much time as you need! CarpetCrawler (talk) 22:50, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jade Goody

[edit]

Hi there. I hope you don't mind me leaving this message, but I've noticed in the past that you've had some involvement with the talk page of Jade Goody. If you have a chance, could you take a look at this? I've seen you take a stance with Nietzsche 2 in the past over the personal comments left about Jade, and I'm wondering about your opinion on the latest comment? I don't want to start ganging up on this person, but the bias that Nietzsche 2 is showing is bordering on insane. If you could, let me know what you think? Thanks in advance :). Sky83 (talk) 15:04, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nietzsche is an odd editor, in that he's able to improve the article while (at the same time) showing a blatant anti Goody sentiment on the article talk page. Much of what he say's is useful but he cannot resist adding personal (negative) comments about Goody into the mix. He probably thinks he's writing neutrally, but he's not. I'm keeping an eye on it. — R2 15:17, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers, I've noticed him try to be subtle with it, but it's getting over the top. I've never seen anyone give such focused attention to improving an article while, like you say, having such an insane bias on the talk page. I've got the article on my watchlist, so I'll try to watch Nietzsche as well. This is strange lol. Sky83 (talk) 15:25, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question about If U Seek Amy

[edit]

Hello there. I noticed that in this diff you reverted the {{quotefarm}} template that I had added. Do you disagree that there are too many quotes in that particular section? Personally, I think that having too many quotes can detract from the quality of the article. Spidern 02:53, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, when I was reverting all that crap, I didn't notice your constructive edit. Personally I have no problem with the quotes, particularly when it comes to the critical analysis of music by a controversial figure like Spears. Sometimes it's the best way (or for some people the only way) of writing in a neutral manner. Feel free to reinsert it if you wish. Again, when I removed it, it had nothing to do with my personal opinion, I simply didn't see it. Best. :) — R2 14:07, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Boston Globe

[edit]

Realist, are you able to access Boston Globe articles for free? If so, there's an article I'd like to get some information from, about the Billy Joel song "I Go to Extremes". This guy right here. If it costs money per article, then don't worry about it, I'll find info elsewhere. :) Thanks for your time! CarpetCrawler (talk) 19:11, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about it. I forgot I have free access to the Newsday archive (I need to add only .8 more of prose so it can be at 5x prose expansion to make it to a DYK.) If you happen to have any good info feel free to add it at the "I Go to Extremes" article. Have a great day! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 04:06, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I have found another free newspaper full text archive, with the help of User:Shubinator. The Seattle Times has free full text archives for articles from 1990 and later, so if you ever need to find any extra information or reception information, I suggest you check out their website! Have a good one, my friend. :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 06:19, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey sorry for not replying, I'm currently in something of a Semi Wikibreak. As you can see, I'm making about 15 edits a day, which is very low for me. I'll get around to updates at NJR later today. — R2 18:08, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, don't worry about it! After the FAR for NJR, I will more than likely take a wikibreak myself. I've been editing up a storm lately, helping people develop articles ("La Isla Bonita"), nominating articles for DYK? ("The Heart of Rock & Roll", which made the frontpage! and "I Go to Extremes") and nominating an article for a GAR ("Captain Jack (song)"). All of this editing is exhausting me. :-/ Anyway, I'll take a look at your comments at the NJR talkpage as soon as possible! Have a great night! CarpetCrawler (talk) 04:13, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there, I've done the work on NJR, as you requested. Feel free to take a look when you have free time. I hope we're making progress so far. :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 20:08, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to go over what else I need to do. As you said, it's going to be long and tedious. :( It's things like that where I really wonder why Wikipedia is so nitpicky sometimes... it's like, if the citation is there, who cares? But alas, I understand. The beginning of the week is always busy for me, but coming up is my Spring Break, so I'll definitely have free time to work on what you requested. :) I'm so happy, I got my first barnstar today!!! :) Have a great day! CarpetCrawler (talk) 02:19, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Open Your Heart

[edit]

What do you think of this? Will it pass GA? --Legolas (talktome) 09:13, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, more than likely. — R2 15:12, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just cleaned up this article. When you have the time, can you check whether it's ready for GAN? Pyrrhus16 19:29, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, will do. I need to review something for someone else first. Give me a day or two. :) — R2 19:33, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I'll start work on my next project. :) Pyrrhus16 19:36, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you expand it greatly (5 fold), send it to DYK too. :) — R2 19:40, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I will do. Do you know what kind of non-free image I would be able to upload for him? I haven't seen any other famous animals at GA, so can't base it off those. Pyrrhus16 08:16, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea, your best bet is to ask User:Giggy. Since he's quite inactive at the moment, it might be worth emailing him. — R2 13:45, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Youtube videos

[edit]

It is really irrelevant if random users do not know the guidelines of wikipedia. Regardless of whether the video is official or not, it states what it states. Youtube is permissible when the work is not copyrighted, which in this case it isn't. The video in question serves as an interview. It's not someone claiming her birthday is on a certain date, it's her actually saying it. If you want, I will bring it up at the reliable sources board and they can weigh in, but that would be a waste of time. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 14:05, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why not simply discuss the issue on the article talk page instead of edit warring. — R2 14:07, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Because it is so simple. Have you ever read WP:SELFPUB? Tell me how anyone can seriously deny what she said from her own mouth? That is ridiculous. The first reverter is the one who should have said something on the talk before reverting, it looks even worse for the second. You cannot just revert relevant sourced information because you think it might be bad, that is for the talk page. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 14:12, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No-one is saying that she lied or can't be trusted, just that editors would rather has notable reliable third party sources that document the date. We are trying to push the article through GA after all. Surely it would be better to find out what interview it was and cite that interview, still, not ideal. — R2 14:16, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Did you watch the video? It was her March 27 concert in Ottawa where she says she's glad to be with them on her last day of being 22 and they sing happy birthday. It would still stand even if you sourced the concert and left out the youtube link, which is just there to make it more reliable. Having had experienced getting several pages through the GA process, I doubt that the ref would hold up anything. It's a start and its better than having the wrong date, so now the only thing needed would be an additional source if you must. If you ask me, the reliability of Allmusic would be the one questioned, as it goes against her own word. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 14:24, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So is this enough to convince you? I plan to add it back pending you don't have anymore concerns. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 18:21, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm certainly not going to edit war over it, what others do is up to them. You might want to wait 24 hours, in case you get trapped under WP:3RR, not that I would report you, but someone might. Best. :) — R2 18:30, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have one more safe before I go past 3RR :) but I'll say something on the talk page first. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 18:32, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Now the dust has settled; would you mind telling me why I scare and intimidate you? Ironholds (talk) 03:18, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No? :P. Ironholds (talk) 10:58, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was actually trying to think about how I could answer this question, in truth, I wish I hadn't commented anyway, my !vote wouldn't have changed the outcome. I might send you a response on your talk page in the coming days. I have just come out of a semi wiki break after losing interest. I don't want to get grumpy or bogged down in drama again. — R2 11:28, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Running again

[edit]

I wanted to point out that this was my one and only RfA. I don't really care as I can get other admin to do most of the stuff for me now (look at deleted pages, merge histories, protect images on the mainpage used at DYK, etc). I advocate for people now, and sysoping would only allow me to have more leverage in the discussion (many admin like to say "well, you don't have the tools so why should I listen to you"). However, I've spent enough time without that I can deal with those complaints. My RfA is more like an RfC, and with so many people looking at it before it even existed (combined with people always asking me to run), I thought it was about time to give the community a chance to rule in. I always preferred that if I become a sysop it would be done through act of Jimbo. : D But yeah, thanks for the statement about running again. Ottava Rima (talk) 15:33, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've added all the info I can find to the page. Using this tool, I can see that it hasn't been expanded five-fold. There's a ton of stuff that could have been used at DYK . :( I'm going to ask on the WP:FAIRUSE talk page about using a photograph. Cheers. :) Pyrrhus16 19:47, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please try submitting it to DYK, since you fully sourced it too. A good admin might still let it through. I'll make a lot of noise too if I have too. :) — R2 19:49, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, will do. Pyrrhus16 19:52, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
