Sisua[edit]

Hi! Sorry about the warning, which I've now removed. Yep, this was my mistake. In your most recent change, you copied "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" onto the page, which looked like an accident. I've restored your changes. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia, and sorry for the inconvenience! Ale_Jrbtalk 22:56, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Odia calendar requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. — Smjg (talk) 16:45, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

January 2017[edit]

I notice that you have been trying to cite Wikipedia articles as references. This is not allowed, for reasons given at WP:CIRCULAR, but of course appropriate wikilinks are allowed, as are citations to valid and appropriate references used in the article which you were attempting to use as a reference. It would also be wise for you to read the Manual of Style. I see that you have been violating WP:BOLD and WP:FONTSIZE, as two examples. --David Biddulph (talk) 00:57, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@David Biddulph: Did you intend to refer to MOS:NOBOLD instead? --Gronk Oz (talk) 02:22, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I did. Thanks for pointing out my error. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:28, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wikipedia, I would like to write some articles on floor springs/door closers, the history of them, development and some notable people involved in the invention of them both collectively and individually. I do however have a business that is involved in the restoration, fitting, identification etc of these items and do have a unique website (blog) regarding them. How would I go about this/can I go about this without a conflict of interest? I believe I am probably the only source for general pictures and information on these items, so it would/could be difficult to not mention/involve my business in someway shape or form I feel. I also wonder if this can in any way harm my business. I have a genuine interest in all things floor spring/door closer related and want to share this knowledge/interest, this is not about promotion of my business. Rod Fathers (talk) 13:48, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you are the only source, then the material doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Please read WP:42. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:28, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I thought I used the word general and I believe David, either way my questions still remain Rod Fathers (talk) 17:59, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Rod Fathers and David Biddulph: Like any article, start by collecting the best quality, independent sources you can find. Blogs and personal experience don't count. Instead, find the books that have been written on the subject, and the detailed articles written in major newspapers and industry journals. Reliable sources are the only basis to determine whether the topic is notable enough to have an article. If you have a possible conflict of interest then it is important to declare that up front, and preferably request that somebody else write the article independently, providing them with the list of sources you have identified.--Gronk Oz (talk) 02:44, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Trouble logging in[edit]

I had trouble logging in this morning and I am seeing a message reading there is no Rod Fathers page and yet here I am, a little confused. How do I change my password from the temporary one I have had to use? Oh and thanks Gronk Oz/DavidRod Fathers (talk) 09:33, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I may have mistakenly created two Rod Fathers identities. This was not my intention, can someone please check this? I would like to have my original wikipedia entry point with my own private sand box, thank you. Rod Fathers (talk) 08:17, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Rod Fathers: I have added a heading for this question since it's a separate topic; hope that's okay.
In general, you would be better asking a question like this at Wikipedia:Help desk or Wikipedia:Teahouse, since otherwise you have to rely on other editors like me just happening to notice it. Or if you want to attract the attention of a particular editor, use the {{ping}} facility (like I did at the beginning of this answer to send a notification to you). Anyhow, I noticed, so here are the answers:
  1. Firstly, you appear to be the only user with a name like yours, so you don't appear to have created a second identity that I can spot. The full list of registered user names is at Special:UserList if you want to check for alternative spellings etc.
  2. Secondly, before changing your password it is good to check that you have given Wikipedia an email address where you can be contacted. That way, if your password ever gets lost or messed up, it can be recovered. Some users have been very distressed to find that without an email address, there is no way at all to recover from a lost password. So register an email address at Special:Preferences > User profile > email options.
  3. Thirdly, you can change your password at Special:Preferences > User profile > Basic information > password.
  4. Finally, each registered user has the option to set up a User page with Wikipedia-related information about themselves. Mine is User:Gronk Oz, for example. You have not set one up, so there is no page User:Rod Fathers (which is why that is is a red link). I imagine that's what the message was saying. It is not an error, just letting you know that there is no such page at the moment. It is optional. You do have your own User Talk page (this is it here, now) and your own sandbox (User:Rod Fathers/sandbox).
I hope that sets your mind at ease. --Gronk Oz (talk) 14:39, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Harassment[edit]

Dear Wikipedia, I came here because I wanted to write an entry about floor springs and their history, unfortunately, and I know not why I have somehow been stopped from doing this by whoever has been as far as I am concerned harassing me for two years now. As I said elsewhere my computer was switched off by whoever these people are when trying to write my entry and frankly I am scared. I have over the last two years had my phone calls diverted when trying to contact the media over my treatment by a local authority where I live, I have had my phone somehow made to drop calls, I have been somehow blocked from viewing properties on a Council website, denied access to the Independent Police Complaints Commission website, other social media sites, my Doctor who I now have to see months ago said as I left his surgery room "pick your battles, their too powerful," another Dr who called himself Michael Newton say to me when I told him about a series of phone calls I had when it was said the cutting off of my phone would stop "it's easy to hack your phone and those calls never happened." The list of threats, intimidation and such like has got me into a state that as far as I am concerned I am suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, certainly now depression and I do not know how much longer I can take it. I started a little business two years ago and frankly that business is on the brink of collapse as I am unable to work properly because of it all. I have provided the police with evidence of what has been going on, the IPCC themselves, I have even tried to upload pictures to Google maps of odd things on my computer screen. I have been numerous times to the CAB here in England and the last time I went and told them about the three things that were troubling me the most they simply said we work closely with Charnwood Borough Council and left me sat in their office alone. I have had "officials," tell me MFS (my business) is "not happenin" (I took this as it was meant at the time, I was being put out of business). I am scared to answer emails (my emails have somehow been blocked/diverted), go on jobs, it has made me paranoid and frankly a nervous wreck, caused me to have a breakdown etc I don't want to go on as it makes me physically sick if I talk about it too much. I have gone to no less than, 4 local solicitors who have passed me from one to another, one of them even somehow being involved directly and has told me he wants ten thousand pounds to get the recordings of the calls I speak of earlier in this letter (he also said it will be worse for me if I pursue my wanting to seek justice, over what initially started with landlord harassment), it has gone on and on, I dare not go to another solicitor as I do not get anywhere, I don't go to the Police anymore because nothing is ever done (I believe a local officer/officers have been involved) I have been to my local Councilor, an MP who I believe authorised the cutting off of my phone and I was threatened or I should say I was made to feel I cannot mention in those same calls. Anyway I am leaving it there and I am not going to write the page on floor springs as someone obviously is not going to let me. (Added a heading for this topic.) @Rod Fathers: I am very sorry to read about those problems you have been having. But they are not associated with Wikipedia: we just write articles, we don't control the phone system, or the government, or your own computer. So I am also unsure how we can help you; if there is something specific you need (within the scope of writing articles) then please ask and we'll see if we can help. --Gronk Oz (talk) 03:05, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It was as much about getting it off my chest Gronk as anything else, kinda all came bubbling out (only human I guess) The facts do still remain the same though and switching off my computer causing me to lose what I had written has just about done it for me I am afraid, but I do genuinely thank you for your reply Rod Fathers (talk) 19:50, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, @Rod Fathers: We all need to vent once in a while. --Gronk Oz (talk) 23:19, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
