The Beamers

why'd you delete the beamers page? Whats wrong —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oakjoe75 (talkcontribs) 02:55, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Please provide a link to the deleted article, and read WP:CSD. Sandstein 06:54, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Pribor-3B meroka assault rifle

Thought you may want to discuss the so called 'Pribor-3B' at the German A. Korobov talk page.

User:Winky Bill 20:32PM, 31/8/07 (UTC)

Er, what is there to discuss? I deleted the article per WP:CSD#A7 since it did not assert notability. Sandstein 19:34, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Both of these were part of a walled garden of cruft by a vandal and his socks. Leibniz 14:25, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Run-on teams.. again

Londo06 (talk · contribs) has again accused me of being malicious, and is readding the unverified information. I'm happy to block him myself as this is a policy matter rather than a content dispute, but I'll give you first call on taking action as you're less involved than I am. He cited a webpage in the summary for his readdition of the info to Catalans Dragons 2007, which contains no info about a possible line-up, rather it states the teams are "TBC" - proof positive that this saga revolves around unverified speculation. Cheers, Deiz talk 08:19, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Seems you're at lunch :) I've blocked Londo for 3 hours for repeated breaches of WP:V and WP:AGF. Deiz talk 08:46, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
I'll be offline for a while, if you're around and could keep an eye out that would be cool. Cheers, Deiz talk 09:53, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Sure. Sandstein 09:54, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Taken your message on board. I was unaware that Deiz was an administrator, thought he was just being fecisous. Accusation of vandalism against said character was just lashing out. Will endeavour to be more retrospective and less forward thinking. Londo06 15:31, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Article: Muslims in CIA Factbook

Sandstein, Regarding this AFD, I have left a message on its discussion page. Please feel free to read it if you have time. (TS Brumwell 00:25, 2 September 2007 (UTC))

Needs euthanasia

This needs a merciful ending as a deletion is already extremely unlikely. It is just wasting people's time. -- Fyslee/talk 02:10, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Maybe, but I still see no reason why it should not run for five days. People are not forced to comment if they feel they are wasting their time. Sandstein 05:54, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Maybe, maybe not. In this case the very initiation practically amounted to policy violating disruption and gaming the system (which is thus allowed to continue), and should therefore not be tolerated or rewarded by allowing it to run full course, especially since a clear consensus already means it is doomed to failure. I have seen other AfDs terminated early for that last reason alone. -- Fyslee/talk 06:16, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
That is possible, but letting an AfD run the full time is not a reward, it is due process. Process is very important. If closed early, this may lead to pointless DRV debates about perceived procedural errors. If allowed to run, the eventual result may be much clearer, preventing re-nominations. Sandstein 06:21, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Quite true. I respect your patience and restraint. I lack it! -- Fyslee/talk 06:44, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

NOW Orchestra

You deleted this article due to copyright infringement. However I'm sure there was a message on the talk page stating that permission had been given. Totnesmartin 09:18, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I'll look into it, please stand by. Sandstein 07:32, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Whatever you do, I've lost home internet access :(, but thanks for re-checking. Totnesmartin 15:24, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

You were the closing admin of this AfD. There is a userspace list of the same, here. Would you mind telling me if this is the same content as the deleted page? Thanks. i said 06:23, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it is essentially the same content, possibly an earlier revision of the deleted version. Sandstein 07:34, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I imagined so. Correct me if I'm wrong, but storing deleted material in your userspace, without the intention to fix it and reinsert it, is disallowed? And thus is speediable? i said 07:46, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I don't think so. WP:CSD#G4 states that "it does not apply to content that has been moved to user space". To delete that page, one would have to go through WP:MFD. Sandstein 08:32, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

My images

Thanks for your message. I am a 51 year old collector of just about everything and over the last 35 years I have amassed a large collection of original prints, documents and photographs. Some of these I have scanned or uploaded to accompany articles. Some imsges were taken by me of people I know, or have known personally or have met over the years, some of which I have released to other websites. Others are scans of old prints or photographs more than 100 years old, or for which there is no copyright as they are in the public domain. I'm not really sure therefore what I'm supposed to have done wrong. Jack1956 19:49, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

I'll reply on your talk page. Sandstein 20:20, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Can you check what I've done so far here [1] please to see if I'm doing it right. Thanks. Jack1956 17:40, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, Image:Raison.jpg, is nothing to do with me...it's a case of someone uploading an image with an identical name which wiped out my image. I simply reverted it to their original [see the File History] and reuploaded mine as File:Mirraison.jpg, which I've since deleted. Jack1956 07:17, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the autoblock tool

Regarding [2]: keep in mind that the autoblock tool is currently having problems due to one of the toolserver databases crashing, which is why this user's autoblock didn't appear in the system. (However I was about to grant their unblock request anyway, so I have no problems with your unblocking. =) ). --krimpet 05:56, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. Well, I did not unblock that user, since no block could be found; I just pasted the request granted template. Sandstein 06:24, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I see you have been able to find and lift the block - how did you do that without the tool? Sandstein 06:28, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

PBM Products Article

I am wondering why my article on PBM Products was considered to be blatant advertising, causing it to be deleted. I provided a list of references at the bottom of the article supporting the importance of the article. Do you have suggestions as to what I can do in a re-write of this article?--WebLounge 18:05, 5 September 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shannon.prettyman (talkcontribs)

Hm. Do you have any affiliation to that company? At any rate, the article sounded like a press release: "provide a high-quality, competitively priced product", "providing retail partners an opportunity to create identity and market differentiation through store brands at fair profit levels", etc. We are committed to a neutral style when writing articles. Sandstein 06:26, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Would the article be accepted if re-written to not sound like a press release? The press release nature of the article comes from my style of writing and was not intended to sound one sided. --WebLounge 18:05, 5 September 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shannon.prettyman (talkcontribs)

Yes, if you are not affiliated with that company (see WP:COI). Sandstein 15:27, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Unnom2 is not the author of that information, and has blatantly plagiarised the Appendix site multiple times. You claim you can't verify it as a copyvio? How so? Is it being identical not enough? Please remove it, as well as Unnom's other acts of plagiarism and copyright infringement. 84.9.88.73 11:34, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

OK. If you tag the article with the correct link again, an administrator will review it. Sandstein 11:41, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Done. Now please remove the plagiarised article. And I also expect Wikipedia administrators to check the rest of Unnom's "work" because I shouldn't have to be the one policing him. 84.9.88.73 12:58, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

What do you mean? Sandstein 20:05, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
You are aware I have been blocked by DaGizza who in his tasteless and baseless remarks continues calling me troll. After blocking me from editing my discussion page even, Krimpet asked me to seek arbitration, hence I have done so. Since I cannot edit using my login id, I am using the IP. Since you too had commented on the block, I thought it proper that you be included as one of the parties, though I am not sure what it your take on it
I wonder what the problem with DaGizza is? On his page he says he is ready to do people favours. Well, I did not know that being an administrator on Wiki empowers one to behave in such a feudal manner. My questions on the basis of my block are dismissed as personal attacks. He even edited those messages on his message board which questioned the block and another message which informed him that I have referred the block for arbitration. (Ankush 135) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.224.120.80 (talk) 19:54, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Hmm. Am very new to Wikipedia as a registered user, so am not aware of the processes & norms in toto. Thanks for your non-interest :-( —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.224.113.226 (talk) 20:17, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

moving articles over redirects

I think articles can only be moved over a redirect if it was just moved from there (to revert the move of a page). In the case of MIME at least it doesn't work and it complains that the page already exists.--Speck-Made 15:49, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

The Treatise of the Three Imposters

I am not sure the Treatise of the Three Imposters was written by John Toland. I didn't mean to erase it without talking to you, I just didn't know how to send you a message at first. I don't profess to be an expert on the subject of John Toland, but the copy of The Treatise of the Three Imposters that I've been reading for class was authored by Jean Rousset de Missy, Charles Levier and Jan Vroese. I don't have the full citation, but I can get it if you need it. Anyhow, I don't know what source you have that cites Toland has the author, but you might want to check this out. Let me know, HC —Preceding unsigned comment added by Calhoha (talkcontribs) 19:05, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your message. This site suggests it is an anonymous pamphlet which may have been attributed to many people. The article text you are referring to was originally written by User:Clio the Muse, our resident historian. I am sure that if you ask her, she will be able to provide you with her reference. As for me, I have no objection if you want to overwrite the unsourced assertion of Toland's authorship. Sandstein 22:01, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

You are wise

I saw your decision on the AFD of Lansing Bennett. Quoting WP:BLP1E, which is Wikipedia policy and not an essay or guideline, is wise. Even if it stings a bit since I am the person who wrote most of the Lansing Bennett article, your tactful and wise comments are a useful lesson in the workings of wikipedia!

Soon, you may wish to use your wisdom to decide on the AFD of al-Shehhi, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Marwan_al-Shehhi , whose act is very notable but the person is the subject of few references, usually only in passing.

Reqest to Restore LogMeIn to user space

Hi, Sandstein. I am writing to request restoration of the article LogMeIn to my userspace so that I can try to redact it to meet Wikipedia's standards.

I had not previously edited or viewed the article, but was trying to find some background/history about the company, and found that the WP article had been deleted due to G11. I have previous experience with redacting and improving articles for restoration, and am interested in doing so with the LogMeIn article. Thus I am requesting that the deleted version be restored to User:TJJFV/LogMeIn.

(Please ping my talk page, so that I know you have replied.)

question

I'm wondering why the page about Ghebre Selassie Mehreteab continues to get deleted? I don't understand how writing a bio about a person is blatant advertising?

Ghebre Selassie Mehreteab (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) was deleted because it fit the criteria of WP:CSD#G11: it was written in an overly promotional style. To write a biography article that will not get spedy deleted, please read WP:NPOV and WP:BIO. Sandstein 20:05, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Potential Defamation?

Hi there, I've no idea how contributing to Wikipedia works but i have noticed that there is a rather heated discussion on Eurominuteman's User talk page and it involves my name and my research. I would like to contact the parties involved and offer to answer any questions or resolve any disputes they might have regarding my work. I am very concerned that the discussion seems to be veering towards territory where my reputation might be damaged or questioned.

This is really important and urgent. Please email me at gobsheen(a) eircom dot net

Dr J Byrne Docjody 19:41, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

I do not generally use e-mail, unless where privacy is absolutely required. The page User talk:Eurominuteman is now protected and the user blocked, so the discussion will not proceed. If you are indeed Jody Byrne, I cannot see any defamatory content in that discussion, just a debate about whether or not, or how, your work should be used in Wikipedia. We have no way of contacting Eurominuteman (talk · contribs), but if you want to contact the other users in that discussion, just click on their usernames and you will be taken to their user pages, from where you can either e-mail them or leave them a message on their user page. Does this help? Sandstein 20:15, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Sandstein, I have a question for you... in prevision of the upcoming federal election and the new parliament that will be formed afterwards, I (and a couple of other people) was interested in having photos for the articles about the Swiss MPs (as in [3], the first example from the list). I have written several emails to different services at the parliament (internet, media, and now legal services as well), but never got any reply (in contrast, I easily got permission from the Bundeskanzlei for the photos of the Federal Council). I would really like to obtain a permission for these images, but in anticipation of any discussion (or in the case of a total lack of reply), do you think that these images could be considered as being non-protected under Swiss copyright law for lack of originality (nothing differentiate them from any other identity photos) ? Thanks in advance ! Schutz 09:17, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

The wide spamming was useful, since I got a reply. I still have to clarify some points (to make sure that the images are free enough), but it looks good. I'll be still interested in your answer anyway. Schutz 11:29, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
I'd say yes, (most of) these images are not original enough under Swiss law. The large-scale application of the "Meili" case law to Swiss photographs has met with some opposition on Commons, though, for reasons I can partly understand. My preferred approach would be to put them up and take them down only if some rights holder complains, but other editors may want to be more cautious. Sandstein 13:37, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Interesting; do you have a reference to the discussion on Commons ? By the way, I received a final reply, which was better that what I expected: any image (not just the members of parliament) from http://www.parlament.ch/ can be used without restriction except indication of the source. I think they may even have gone a bit too far (I am sure there is at least one image on their site for which they are not the right holders !), but it is good for us. Schutz 06:46, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
See my discussion with Lupo at Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/Image:CH bundesamt conseil consiglio cussegl 2007.jpg. Anyway, that is great news. Can you publish that letter of permission somewhere on Commons, or on OTRS, so that it can be linked to? We could also make a Commons licencing template for that purpose. Sandstein 07:04, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
The email is already in OTRS (I can send you a copy by email in case you want to have a look at it). What I'll do is I'll upload at least one image from the website (a well-known member of parliament for example) and will link it to the OTRS ticket number, and then work on a template. Schutz 07:47, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I've had a look at this. Start from Christine Egerszegi, have a look at the photo and the template on commons. Additions/comments welcome. Schutz 21:19, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! I've replied at your Commons talk page. Sandstein 21:50, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Nick Mayberry Article

Hello, I had put up on an article on pro-wrestler / promoter Nick Mayberry. It was taken down, put back up, and I continued to contribute to the article, but it was once again taken down, the second time by yourself. I was wondering why the article was removed from Wikipedia, and how I can get it put back up?

The argument was presented that he is non-notable, etc. - I have included a link to a spot where you can see several news articles regarding him, etc. by verifiable sources like The Miami Herald, etc. It is at: http://www.incredible8.com/press.htm

This location is Mayberry's site, but the articles are not his - they are scans directly from the news papers. I am working right now to find the article the Miami Herald did on him in June that mentioned him being the youngest promoter ever, as soon as I find it, I will send it as well. I was working on referencing these things on the Wikipedia page, but it was taken down before I can finish all my work.

A lot of the information [except for that on his site, OWW and several other wrestling sites] is hard to obtain, as I know for a fact he was featured prominently on a number of these sites, but they don't have archives and their articles, content, etc. change frequently with new materials.

Anyhow, please feel free to reach me back through Wikipedia, or I will check back here I guess. I would love to get the article put back up somehow eventually, so I may continue work on it. I feel he is notable due to being the youngest pro wrestling promoter ever, plus he is the promoter of the Incredible 8 Tournament which is one of the larger and more prominent indy tournaments in the US, with almost everyone featured in the tourneys having a Wiki page of their own [Shark Boy, Jimmy Rave, Roderick Strong, Tony Mamaluke, etc.]. Wrestlepedia 00:25, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Nick Mayberry (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) was deleted according to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nick Mayberry. You may only restore the article if your new version addresses the AfD's concerns. This means that the article must prove notability according to the rules of WP:BIO using verifiable (WP:V), reliable sources (WP:RS). This is not possible using sites that "don't have archives and their articles, content, etc. change frequently with new materials" because they are not reliable sources. On the other hand, the sources collected at http://www.incredible8.com/press.htm look to be reliable, but they can only be used to support Mayberry's notability if he is their main subject, not just mentioned in passing.
If you think you can write an article that meets WP:BIO and WP:V, feel free to do so in your user space, at User:Wrestlepedia/Nick Mayberry, and to move it to Nick Mayberry once complete. It will not be speedily deleted if it properly addresses the AfD's concerns. Sandstein 06:48, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey Sandstein, Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. I'm going to get to work on that ASAP and hope it'll be able to stay on Wikipedia this time around. Thanks again. Wrestlepedia 22:05, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
