Regional notice board

[edit]

You are wellcome to join the Argentine regional notice board. -Mariano 17:25, July 12, 2005 (UTC)

... also take a look at WP:Israel & WP:WNBI. Cheers! Humus sapiens←ну? 22:50, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Reason i am removing this part about Genetic information found is because it is not by a creditable source of information and makes almost no sense to history of Argentina!

If you look in the Buenos Aires Herald it says NOTHING about ur claims so i am changing it back.

Again you are wrong because if you look in the US Census it clearly states over 10 precent of the population is of mixed decent. Plus you have no proof of ur claim so i am removing it.

Al Sharpton

[edit]

The reason I removed the information because there are no credible sources cited for the alleged statements. Most of the links were from National Review, and I'm pretty sure they could just make up anything out of the blue, because national review is not objective at all. i am open to evidence that he has made these supposed statements, but I seriously doubt the validity of the allegations that were written in the "bigotry" section. --Revolución (talk) 21:08, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

They do seem awfully biased, but I wouldn't disregard them altogether. Can you format the article to mention these allegations but give them a much less promiment place? I don't like Al all that much but I don't think he's the monster those sources portray him to be. Having said this, my POV is irrelevant but I feel that in WP he have to show all angles. What do u think? --Sebastian Kessel 21:12, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I agree we have to show all angles, but I think we should definitely try to separate the facts from the allegations. --Revolución (talk) 21:29, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah.... I took it up and browsed the NR webpage....It's crap. Let's remove the whole "Bigotry" section and external links but let's keep the "Critics Say..." part since it does show what his critics say, after all. :) --Sebastian Kessel 21:30, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really think so, Sebastiankessel... It really isn't crap. Their opinions and interpretations are frequently crap ithink. But to describe the #1 circulation conservative magazine as "not credible" and I'm pretty sure they could just make up anything out of the blue" makes it clear what Revolucion is doing. That, and removing negative facts that Others had added. Not myself. If REv olucion has any credible argument of that, I'm sure Sharpton would like him on his legal team. I don't think it'll happen. but inflammatory? In need of rewriting? Maybe, I can't tell. But this blatant vandalism from Revolucion is not it. Race Reality 22:05, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't call it vandalism, but he could've been more tactful... and so could you. :) Do you think you could re-write the section to make it more NPOV-ish? --Sebastian Kessel 22:08, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That edit comment on that page may have looked really bad, I'm sorry, i can't read maybe. And, you're asking me to rewrite it more tactfully? After you noticed I don't do that well? But seriously. Maybe I can. I'd like to have it presentable, if it's not. Race Reality 22:42, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I replied on yout talk page. --Sebastian Kessel 22:44, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oblige/Obligate - Obliged/Obligated

[edit]

Apart from a special use in biology obligate means pretty much the same as oblige. I am of the opinion that it is a back-formation from obligation that came about in the 15th or 16th century, and I find it ugly. For the wikitionary defn. of oblige see. I'm sorry you got that impression from my comments. They were entirely serious, and I had no intention of being condescending. Jayjg (talk) 22:02, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The last name "Frank" almost certainly has its ultimate origins in the ethnic term "Frank", i.e. one of the Franks. Perhaps not a perfect analogy, but certainly not irrelevant. I'll put another analogy in there, see if you like that. Jayjg (talk) 22:21, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, my RfA has not quite completed yet, but either way, I'd like to thank you for your vote and your support, regardless of the outcome. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 17:57, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, yeah. I've noticed the tag team. I see that s/he made another edit to Argentina. Which is actually not bad, I am not convinced that "south of south america" is the most poetic way to say it either. --Vizcarra 20:14, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Current Squad

[edit]

Hi Sebas! A couple of htings about the Current Squads sections you've been working on:

  • Flags: No point on adding the Club's Shield to every player, they are all the same! I suggest you put the Flag of the Nationalities, or leave it without any image.
  • Player possition : no need to repeate a link to the possition that is already at the top of the sub-list
  • (ordered numerically) comment could be at the bottom, together with the other comments.
  • You could order the tables oposite.

Check this example for Boca Juniors (warning, some other player might not be Argentine).

As of 19 September 2005

  • Goalkeepers
    •   1 Boca Juniors Abbondanzieri, Roberto Carlos
    • 12 Boca Juniors Medrán, Ezequiel Luis
    • 25 Boca Juniors Eberto, Gustavo Daniel
  • Defenders
    •   2 Boca Juniors Schiavi, Rolando Carlos
    •   3 Boca Juniors Morel Rodríguez, Claudio Marcelo
    •   4 Boca Juniors Ibarra, Hugo Benjamín
    •   6 Boca Juniors Díaz, Daniel Alberto
    • 15 Boca Juniors Calvo, José María
    • 28 Boca Juniors Casais, Eduardo Javier
    • 33 Boca Juniors Cahais, Matías
    • 38 Boca Juniors Acosta, Fernando
    • 39 Boca Juniors Coronel, Sergio
    • 46 Boca Juniors Fusco, Emiliano
  • Midfielders
    •   5 Boca Juniors Gago, Fernando Rubén
    •   8 Boca Juniors Cagna, Diego Sebastián
    • 10 Boca Juniors Insúa, Federico
    • 11 Boca Juniors Vargas Rivera, Fabián Andrés
  • Midfielders (...continuation)
    • 18 Boca Juniors Marino, Guillermo Andrés
    • 19 Boca Juniors Cardozo, Neri Raúl

    • 34 Boca Juniors Franzoia, Andrés
    • 36 Boca Juniors Gutiérrez, Enzo
    • 44 Boca Juniors Bertolo, Nicolás
    • 41 Boca Juniors Trejo, Oscar

(Players order by number. The positions are generic and do not contemplate multiple positions or more specific positions. )

Hope you like it!

Dealing with vandals

[edit]

Hi! I see you've been reverting 24.60.161.63's edits. I thought s/he was an occasional vandal, but it seems s/he follows a pattern. I'll be looking out for those "contributions" as well. In the meantime, in order to scare him/her off and possibly enable an admin to block him/her in due time, you should use the template tags described in Wikipedia:Vandalism#Dealing with vandalism. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 23:47, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thats not true that im bais and how you dare say that, i am just going around here seeing all the inaccurate information and changing it. Gautemala is accurate for example and theres no need to change it so how could u possible say that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by XXGustaXX (talkcontribs) 20 Sep 2005

I am not vandalizing you didnt even read my source! please ur just being bais now like most people are saying you are on your very own page im going to revert because you have NO PROOF and I do simple. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.60.161.63 (talkcontribs) 20 Sep 2005

Israel POV

[edit]

Sebastian --

If it were up to me, no, "Israel" would not be considered POV. However, it is being forced down my throat that "Israel's Occupation" or any variation connecting Israel with being an occupying power is POV, this in spite that every nation in the world save one accepts without question that Israel is an occupying power, as does the UN at every level. So why is this POV? It seems to me that we have one nation and perhaps 50 million people in the world -- if we count slightly more than half of Israelis and make a wild ass guess at how many fundamentalist Christians and Likudniks living abroad -- contest that Israel is an occupying power, and this apparently is enough that the use of any term connecting Israel with occupation must be censored from Wikipedia's article titles, as well as from a good deal of the texts.

Well, if one country and perhaps 50 million people is enough opposition to make a term POV, there are probably a dozen countries that have never acknowledged the legitimacy nor the existence of Israel, along with a few hundred million people -- why shouldn't "Israel" be considered POV, too? And, unlike the challenge to "Israel's Occupation," I'm pretty sure that most of the parties that take issue with the term "Israel" have been quite consistent about it for over 50 years.

I wouldn't demand that Wikipedia's policies always be what I want them to be, but I do demand that they be consistent and not prejudicially applied. And if the only "policy" governing this matter is the rules regarding editing wars, so be it.

Las Malvinas

[edit]

I had moved the comment to the Falkland Islands talk page, which is where it belongs and where the other comment had been repeated. I wouldn't discredit the Argentine claim because the UK rules but because the people of the island don't want to integrate into a Spanish culture (my own experience of how painful that transition can be even when desired means I wouldn't wish that on anyone). But I do think the fact that the UK are sovereign is very important in how we approach the article, SqueakBox 20:09, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, from Argentina, but anchored in Paris, I mean Spain :-)

Regarding Malvinas, I couldn't care less about the outcome, but find irritating those blokes over here denying that there is an Argentine claim and that there is a conflict. Besides, it is Malvinas' most important issue ever.

Hi, today (October 5, 2005) an anonymous user created an article about the Estadio Independiente, but it needs translation to English (and needs some work, as it is POV). As you worked in the past on some Argentine stadium articles, feel free to translate this one. Translating it to English will prevent it from being listed for deletion. Thanks.
