Hey There[edit]

Could someone refer me to a list of userpage/box templates? I need them for...uh...stuff.

WP:UPDC might be of some help. And users usually use this User infobox infobox at their user pages. --Ushau97 talk contribs 11:43, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your Userpage[edit]

Hi again. I saw the message at your user page and have fixed it. You can easily fix it by using userboxtop template. This is how you do it. Just add {{userboxtop}} at the top of all userboxes and {{userboxbottom}} at the bottom of all the UBXes. If this is not what you wanted, please provide me with details. I will be willing to help. --Ushau97 talk contribs 09:54, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes, that was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for helping me again! Shiny Bauble! Pretty Shinies... 12:04, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I think what you want is to move your The Dive Right In Award to your user page and when you preview it, it displays between about me UBXes & WP UBXes, like a column. If you want to get rid of this, just type in {{clear}} just before the award. Like this:

{{clear}}

{{award2|image=Diver2.jpg|topic=The Dive Right In Award|text=I award this Dive Right In Award to you as a newcomer who has shown real enthusiasm in helping with administrative tasks at Wikipedia. It's sometimes hard to get your balance, and there's a lot to learn, but keep on trying. Many, many thanks, [[User:TransporterMan|<span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS; color:blue; font-variant:small-caps;">'''TransporterMan'''</span>]] ([[User talk:TransporterMan|<font face="Trebuchet MS" size="1">TALK</font>]]) 15:04, 13 March 2013 (UTC)}}

Hope this helps --Ushau97 talk contribs 12:23, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That works perfectly! Once again, thanks for all your help. Shiny Bauble! Pretty Shinies... 13:12, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am a long-term volunteer at DRN and the Third Opinion Project and am also a member of the Mediation Committee (though let me hasten to add that I'm writing to you strictly in my capacity as "just another Wikipedia editor", not as a member of that Committee). Thank you very much for wanting to help with dispute resolution, but can I suggest that unless you have some considerable history editing under a different username that you may find working at DRN to be pretty frustrating without a fairly — ahem — encyclopedic knowledge of Wikipedia policy, guidelines, and customs? For most editors that experience is gained through considerable experience at general editing before trying to help with DR (though it's also possible to gain it by carefully and extensively reading policy, but that's rather like reading an insurance policy or the instructions that come with some sophisticated piece of electronic equipment: difficult enough in it's own right and very easy to miss or misunderstand things). Let me encourage you to do a good deal more general editing before jumping in with DR, and then to start by taking some cases at Third Opinion followed by helping, rather than taking the lead, with some cases at DRN. Again, though, thank you very much for helping with DR. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 15:04, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Completely understandable. I would like to continue efforts with the DRN that I started working on (especially since it seems to be a simple conflict of interest), but if you would like me to pass the leadership on to another user, please let me know. I just noticed they've been redirected to discuss or AN/I. Heheh. Shiny Bauble! Pretty Shinies... 17:31, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance, Please![edit]

Recently, it seems that I've been running into tons of edit conflict, to the point of ad exhaustum. Does anyone know of a program, browser, or script that lets me see page updates in real time? Assistance would be much appreciated! Thanks, Shiny Bauble! Pretty Shinies... 20:21, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't come across any program or anything like that so far. (Copied from WP:AEC): The easiest solution is for an experienced editor, who can copy/paste between 2 browser windows. First, edit the page and proofread changes separately (as a 2nd copied window), then re-edit in the first window, merge the new text (quickly), and save. It is just that simple, as if an editor could edit, write, and save all within 15 seconds. Now, an annoying exception was a bug (in October 2012) that caused a "ghost edit-conflict" when no other editors were actually there. However, remember this simple 4-step fix:
  • STEP 1: Edit a section to prepare/proofread the updated text for merge.
  • STEP 2: Re-edit the section in another window (if gone, review the whole page).
  • STEP 3: Merge the proofread text into the re-edit window (quickly).
  • STEP 4: Save as rapidly as safe, for your level of confidence.
It might be difficult to believe that years, of endless edit-conflicts, can be solved simply by re-edit & merge, but the reality is that a 15-second re-edit timeframe is often enough to avoid the conflict. For more information see WP:AEC & H:EC ----Ushau97 talk contribs 10:31, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In need of a userbox creator[edit]

After reviewing all of the userboxes and userbox categories, I can't seem to find certain things that I'd like in the form of a bumper sticker T-Shirt bobby pin userbox. Shiny Bauble! Pretty Shinies... 20:35, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I could make them for you. Please tell me the details like text, color scheme and pictures (if required).--Ushau97 talk 10:44, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, dude. You're free to put whatever pictures, font, or color you want on in, but what I really need are two userboxes with the texts;

"This user is a student, so they can't always find time to be on wikipedia."

and

"This user is a worshiper of the Old Ones, for their ancient wisdom is absolute."

Although I'm leaning towards a blue for student, and black for Old Ones. For both I would like an image, but whatever image you pick I'm alright with. Thanks, Shiny Bauble! Pretty Shinies... 16:57, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! And if you can find something similar to these so you don't have to go out of your way to create new ones, I would appreciate it. Shiny Bauble! Pretty Shinies... 17:01, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the late reply. I have been busy with other things. I have created the student one and it is here: User:Shiny Bauble/student. You can use it like the other userboxes by transcluding to your user page. If there is any change you would like me to bring to it let me know. Now to the second one. I didn't make it because I couldn't find a suitable picture for it. If you can find one let me know. You could choose any picture from english Wikipedia or from Commons. If you can't find a suitable image, let me know what text I have to include in the id box. --Ushau97 talk 12:15, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DRN organisers[edit]

Hello. I am just letting you know that I've made a proposal to create a rotating DRN organiser-style role that would help with the day-to-day running of DRN. As you are a listed volunteer at DRN, I'd appreciate your thoughts on this, and the other open proposals at DRN. You can read more about it here. Thanks! DRN needs your help![edit]

Hi there. I've noticed it's been a while since you've been active at DRN, and we could really use your help! DRN is going to undergo some changes soon, so it'd really be great if our backlog is cleared before the start of August and we have as many people on board to help with the changes (they include a move to subpages and the creation of a rotating "co-ordinator" role to help manage things day-to-day. Hope to see you soon! Steven Zhang Help resolve disputes! 11:37, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The new face of DRN: Shiny Bauble[edit]

Recently the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard underwent some changes in how it operates. Part of the change involved a new list of volunteers with a bit of information about the people behind the names.

You are listed as a volunteer at DRN currently, to update your profile is simple, just click here. Thanks, Cabe6403(TalkSign) 17:23, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your involvement with DRN[edit]

Hi there, I noticed that you haven't been as active at DRN as you was before. DRN has been a bit backlogged lately and we could use some extra hands. We have updated our volunteer list to a new format, Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteers (your name is still there under the old format if you haven't updated it) and are looking into ways to make DRN more effective and more rewarding for volunteers (your input is appreciated!). If you don't have much time to volunteer at the moment, that's fine too, just move your name to the inactive list (you're free to add yourself back to active at any time). Hope to see you again soon :) Steven Zhang (talk) 13:30, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DRN needs assistance[edit]

You are receiving this message because you have listed yourself as a volunteer at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard.

We have a backlog of cases there which need volunteer attention. If you have time available, please take one or more of these cases.

If you do not intend to take cases or help with the administration of DRN on a regular basis, or if you do not wish to receive further notices of this nature, please remove your username from the volunteer list. If you later decide to resume activities at DRN you may relist your name at that time.

Best regards, TransporterMan 15:52, 8 January 2015 (UTC) (current DRN coordinator)

Help needed at DRN[edit]

You are receiving this message because you are signed up as a volunteer at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard. We have a number of pending requests which need a volunteer to address them. Unless you are an inexperienced volunteer who is currently just watching DRN to learn our processes, please take a case. If you do not see yourself taking cases in the foreseeable future, please remove yourself from the volunteer list so that we can have a better idea of the size of our pool of volunteers; if you do see yourself taking cases, please watchlist the DRN page and keep an eye out to see if there are cases which are ready for a volunteer. We have recently had to refuse a number of cases because they were listed for days with no volunteer willing to take them, despite there being almost 150 volunteers listed on the volunteer page. DRN help needed and volunteer roll call[edit]

You are receiving this message because you have listed yourself on the list of volunteers at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteering#List of the DRN volunteers.

First, assistance is needed at DRN. We have recently closed a number of cases without any services being provided for lack of a volunteer willing to take the case. There are at least three cases awaiting a volunteer at this moment. Please consider taking one.

Second, this is a volunteer roll call. If you remain interested in helping at DRN and are willing to actively do so by taking at least one case (and seeing it through) or helping with administrative matters at least once per calendar month, please add your name to this roll call list. Individuals currently on the principal volunteer list who do not add their name on the roll call list will be removed from the principal volunteer list after June 30, 2016 unless the DRN Coordinator chooses to retain their name for the best interest of DRN or the encyclopedia. Individuals whose names are removed after June 30, 2016, should feel free to re-add their names to the principal volunteer list, but are respectfully requested not to do so unless they are willing to take part at DRN at least one time per month as noted above. No one is going to be monitoring to see if you live up to that commitment, but we respectfully ask that you either live up to it or remove your name from the principal volunteer list.
