DYKUpdateBot back to three times a day starting with the next queue at 00:00?
Shubinator, thanks as always for your help. The number of hooks has ballooned, so effective with the Queue 2 set which hits the main page at 00:00 January 6 UTC—and with a lead hook that needs to run starting at that time—we should go on a three-per-day (eight-hour) rotation: Queue 3 would run at 08:00 UTC and Queue 4 at 16:00 UTC. I built the prep sets that will go into those two queues assuming this will be the new timing, and the discussion about going to three a day (no one disagreed about the frequency; the big divergence was about the size of each set) is at WT:DYK#Backlog influx. BlueMoonset (talk) 13:59, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Done :) Happy New Year! Shubinator (talk) 16:26, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Happy New Year to you, too! Hope it's been a great one so far. Thanks again. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:51, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
Is the bot set to automatically transfer prep areas into queues? --George Ho (talk) 00:06, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- No. While the bot does automatically move sets from the queues to the Main page, it requires an admin to move sets from the prep areas into the queues. The prep areas are unprotected and can be edited by anyone with access to Wikipedia. While rare, vandalism and other highly questionable edits do occur to material in the prep areas from time to time. If the bot were to automatically move sets from the prep area to the queues it would be possible for a vandalized set to continue to the Main page before anyone noticed. Such a system would almost certainly increase the amount of vandalism seen in the prep areas as the potential "benefit" for a vandal would increase due to the possible lack of a responsible human performing a basic sanity check before a set reaches the Main page. --Allen3 talk 00:24, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
DYK Update bot time error?
Shubinator, the bot didn't update at midnight UTC; there's an error showing up on User:DYKUpdateBot/Errors that says "Time at Template:Did you know/Next update/Time is not formatted correctly". Since the bot made the changes to the file its own self, I have no idea what's wrong. I'm going to paste a similar request on WT:DYK, but if you see this and can fix this, many blessings on your camels. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:20, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- We're set for the moment: Materialscientist did a manual update of the queue a couple of minutes after I posted the above. Mind, I have no idea why the bot balked in the first place, so it may still be worth investigating; you'll know your bot better than me. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:53, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Looks like I spoke too soon: DYKHousekeepingBot seems to be out of commission. The last update was at 21:45, and although I promoted five templates between 00:29 and 00:42, none of them had showed up by 01:05, which is odd as the bot updates every half hour, which would have meant an update at around 00:45, three hours after the previous update, even if there hadn't been new templates added to T:TDYK, which there had been (plus the new day). So, if you can take a look around and tell the Housekeeping bot that break time's over, we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:08, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Both bots were axed by connection issues to Wikipedia's servers. The "not formatted correctly" error message means the page that DYKUpdateBot is seeing is malformed; this almost always indicates connection issues instead of the time page itself being malformed. DYKUpdateBot's code is more resilient, so it has recovered correctly. I've started up DYKHousekeepingBot again. Thanks for letting me know! Shubinator (talk) 03:01, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting to it already! I appreciate knowing about the time page error being a usual indication of connection issues, and it's great to see the DYKHousekeepingBot back in action. We have the next queue already waiting for the update coming in five hours, and I'm reassured that it will happen without complications now that you've checked. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:06, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- No problem :) Shubinator (talk) 03:08, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
DYKcheck and previous DYK/ITN
Hi, just a tiny DYKcheck issue... it doesn't recognize previous DYKs or ITNs when the template on the talk page has a space in it. For example, two articles currently featured on the Main Page: Holger Stromberg whose talk page has {{DYK talk}} and Sakine Cansız, with {{ITN talk}} on the talk page. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 04:07, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- DYKcheck tweaked. Let me know if it still doesn't work for you. (Bypass your browser cache to make sure you have the latest version of the script.) Shubinator (talk) 04:59, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Works fine now. Thanks for the quick tweak! MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 07:19, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

DYKUpdateBot: Wikipedia front page shows an old revision of the DYK section
Hi! I've already posted about this at Wikipedia talk:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive 10#Wikipedia_front_page_backlog and Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors#Huge backlog. I think you should shut up the DYKUpdateBot cause no one sees the updates anyway. --Moscow Connection (talk) 04:37, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
- My talk page isn't the proper forum for this; WT:DYK is. Shubinator (talk) 04:33, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! I couldn't find the place. I'm posting there now. --Moscow Connection (talk) 04:37, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

DYKHousekeepingBot has stopped housekeeping
Shubinator, it looks like the DYKHousekeepingBot escaped after 01:07 UTC, and hasn't been back to do an update since. (It definitely should have, too; plenty of action tonight.)
While you're at it, you might want to check the DYKUpdateBot, because the two of them sometimes slip away together. The next update is just a little over two hours away, at 08:00 UTC, and there's a queue ready to go if the bot is.
Many thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 05:48, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
Update: Looks like it's just the housekeeping bot; DYKUpdateBot did the 08:00 UTC update as it was supposed to. Thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 10:01, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- I've started it back up again. Thanks for the notice! Shubinator (talk) 15:47, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the restart! Good to have a new list of what's approved on which day. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:34, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

DYKUpdateBot is late
Admittedly only ten minutes late, but that's still late, and there's no sign of action, nor are there any apparent errors. Please check as soon as you can. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:11, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- MaterialScientist did a manual update, so we're set for another five hours at this point. It appears that DYKHousekeepingBot has also gone out for a drink or something, since it has stopped updating (and there are many changes it should have caught). Thanks for seeing to them both when you stop by. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:02, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- I've started up both bots again. A few processes on the server they live on were accidentally killed by the admins; looks like our bots were among those processes. Because of the weirdness, the admins have scheduled a reboot for 19:05 UTC. Combined with my schedule, this means that DYKUpdateBot will miss the February 12 00:00 UTC update, but I should be able to start up both bots by 08:00. Shubinator (talk) 05:01, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll be online for the 00:00 UTC update, thus no worries. Would someone please ping me on my talk if I forget, which is quite possible :-). Materialscientist (talk) 05:10, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- Both bots are online and everything's back to normal. Thanks guys! Shubinator (talk) 06:51, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Notification of discussion
A few months ago, you participated in a discussion on Wikipedia talk:Did you know about Gibraltar-related DYKs on the Main Page. I am proposing that the temporary restrictions on such DYKs, which were imposed in September 2012, should be lifted and have set out a case for doing so at Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Gibraltar-related DYKs. If you have a view on this, please comment at that page. Prioryman (talk) 22:00, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
