DYKHousekeepingBot appears to have stopped - May 3
FYI. Looks like DYKHousekeepingBot could use a restart. Last update by the bot is roughly 3 hours ago while there have been a number of changes on the nominations page since then (I removed an emptied date over an hour ago and the bot has not yet note the change). DYKUpdateBot completed the 16:00 (UTC) update without problem, so this does not appear to be a server issue. --Allen3 talk 16:08, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- Restarted. Looks like the bot was having connectivity issues. Thanks for letting me know! Shubinator (talk) 07:57, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Behavior change for DYKHousekeepingBot
Looks like the MediaWiki changes discussed at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Section edit links are migrating westwards have gone live. As shown by this edit, there are some formatting changes in the manner in which DYKHousekeepingBot generates Wikipedia:Did you know/DYK hook count. Please add a correction to your to-do list. --Allen3 talk 20:49, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia server issues appear to have affected DYKUpdateBot during the 00:00, May 7, 2013 update
DYKUpdateBot appears to have stopped in the middle of the 00:00, May 7, 2013 update. About the same time the bot stopped I was receiving error messages while attempting to load pages from Wikipedia. Please check on the bot when you get a chance, it may need a restart. --Allen3 talk 00:25, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- The recovery code must have kicked in. The 08:00 update ran without problem. --Allen3 talk 11:31, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- That is not what happened: the 08:00 update was still messed up, but someone fixed it manually.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 12:35, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't see what you see. A diff? Note that we traditionally use UTC at DYK. Materialscientist (talk) 12:40, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- This is the last update of the DYK bot before it was shut down. And this is George Ho fixing the mess.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 12:55, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Ah, yes, DYKHousekeepingBot does need a fix, but DYKUpdateBot seems Ok. Materialscientist (talk) 13:03, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Whoops, didn't realize there were two of those. —♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 14:18, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Looks like I picked a bad night to be busy. I'll look into DYKHousekeepingBot when I have time. Will try to get it up and running before Friday. As for DYKUpdateBot, it was having connectivity issues, but the recovery code did indeed trigger, and the bot seems to be fine now. On a slightly related note, I've been thoroughly unimpressed with Labs' responsiveness (not replying to communication at all), so that's delaying bot migration from Toolserver to Labs. Thanks everyone. Shubinator (talk) 02:47, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

DYK bot error
Hi Shubinator. I've just had Inclosure Act 1773 appear on the front page, however I haven't been given any notification from the bot that that has happened. Is there a problem with the bot as I also noticed that on the talk page the hook is not given? The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 06:27, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Fixed that, thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 06:33, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
DYKHousekeepingBot disabled
There was an error. I don't know how the bot added unnecessary extra and messed up the chart. --George Ho (talk) 08:01, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Replied above. Thanks for taking care of it. Shubinator (talk) 02:47, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- On second thought, I'm moving the DYKHousekeepingBot discussion to this section. I fixed the formatting issue and ran the bot on my computer once, which updated the hook stats page and notified a couple of users about untranscluded nominations. I'm having trouble logging into Toolserver, so I can't apply the fix. I assume the login issues are temporary; once they've disappeared I can start up the bot. Shubinator (talk) 22:55, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- As with DYKUpdateBot, since willow looks ok I've started up DYKHousekeepingBot again. I also implemented the suggestions above about renaming the AGF tick filename and incorporating the red again symbol. (Amber, sorry for the delay.) For future reference, the bot does a simple "last symbol wins" calculation; if the last symbol (that it recognizes) in the section is a tick, then the bot counts it as an approval. Shubinator (talk) 04:51, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Based on the timestamp, DYKHousekeepingBot appears to have run once after you started it (at 04:42) and then stopped again. I hope it can be restarted again soon. Thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 03:38, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- This is odd. Willow is again having file system issues. DYKUpdateBot's log file is empty after a certain point, but the bot made an update after that, so the bot is still functioning. Neither bot relies on state stored on the file system. DYKHousekeepingBot fared worse, and is refusing to start up. I'll run the bot once on my computer for now. The toolserver admins put in place a temporary fix for the file system issues; the entire system will likely be brought down around Friday for a more permanent fix. Shubinator (talk) 04:35, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, Shubinator. It's good to have a comparatively recent list of what dates have how many approved hooks, so if you can do occasional runs until the bot is feeling more conciliatory about operating, that would be great; if you can't, we'll just operate as best we can until then. 00:00, May 11, 2013 (UTC) update for DYKUpdateBot
FYI, DYKUpdateBot filed to perform the 00:00, May 11, 2013 (UTC) update. I was not active at the time the bot should have been running so can not say if there were problems on the Wikipedia servers as there were on May 7. While performing the manual update I also spotted another irregularity. The editnotice for Template:Did you know/Next update/Time is now sporting a trailing 0 at the end of the provided timestamp. --Allen3 talk 00:39, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- Allen, toolserver applications that I use were not (and are not) working around then. Thanks once again for keeping an eye on all this. Materialscientist (talk) 00:52, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- Looks like willow was rebooted as part of Toolserver maintenance to try and stabilize things. I've brought the bot back online. Also fixed the formatting issue with the next update time editnotice; the parser apparently got new formatting characters that conflict with the literal characters we want. Will try to get to DYKHousekeepingBot tomorrow. Thanks! Shubinator (talk) 20:14, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
DYKUpdateBot for May 12
Probably not a surprise with the NFS issues being reported on the toolservers[1], but DYKUpdateBot has again gone MIA. Looks like it may be a couple more hours before the person with the knowledge to (hopefully) fix the problem will be available. I performed a manual update 10 to 15 minutes ago so with luck the servers could be available in time for the next update. --Allen3 talk 17:06, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, unfortunately not a surprise. I can't login to the server because of maintenance issues, but as you mentioned that should get resolved soon. Thanks for staying on top of this. Shubinator (talk) 17:54, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
- Toolserver is still having issues with its file system, so I ran the bot on my computer to take care of the latest update. Shubinator (talk) 01:18, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

DYK toolbox
Hi Shubinator. We are trying to create a DYK toolbox to add to the nomination template to help reviewers. Would it be possible to put your DYK check tool on the toolserver so that it can be called from the toolbox template? Also, the annotation on the js code page seems to say that the tool can be used without installation. I don't understand how this can be done. Thanks, SpinningSpark 11:05, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- Not in the short term unfortunately. Toolserver is becoming less and less stable, and I don't want to add more dependencies on it. Labs has been unresponsive to email, which is slowing down migration. And I've been fairly busy in real life lately. After I migrate the bots over to Labs I'll consider it. On anon script execution, yes, that used to work, and no longer really does. See here in the "Using DYKcheck" section. Shubinator (talk) 06:45, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
Bot is on strike
Hi. The bot has quit updating Wikipedia:Did you know/DYK hook count. Your help is needed to get it restarted. --Orlady (talk) 17:41, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Uh.... I hope you can set the bot from three queues per day to two set per day. The participation is very slow at this time. I say that we should stick with two-per-day setup until the Cup, which begins on July 1. --George Ho (talk) 17:48, 20 May 2013 (UTC)- Scratch that; klutzy me. I could not read time and dates well. --George Ho (talk) 18:02, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
I must notify you that I am updating the hook count manually. I will disable the housekeeping bot if you do not object. --George Ho (talk) 19:27, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- I have disabled the bot per George Ho's request. NW (Talk) 13:22, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- Replied at WT:DYK. I'm confused by the reasoning here. I can't start up the bot until I understand why the decision was made to disable it. (And sorry for the multiple day delay; it's been a long week.) Shubinator (talk) 14:47, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
- The bot did not update while it was active, and I figured that there was something wrong with it. Thank goodness the bot is alive to help out, now that I am done temporarily updating the counts. --George Ho (talk) 16:53, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- Ah I see. There was something wrong with it, but nothing destructive. In general it's best to leave the bot enabled unless it's being destructive and/or conflicting with another user. Shubinator (talk) 16:58, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Translation to sv.wiki
I'd like to introduce DYKcheck to Swedish Wikipedia. Is it possible to "translate" the tool and introduce it on a different language version?
Peter Isotalo 21:37, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
- I haven't tried it, but it should be quite doable. You may even be able to install the script directly from sv.wiki. Shubinator (talk) 04:22, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
Housekeeping bot not keeping house
Shubinator, it looks like no one informed you that the most recent DYKHousekeepingBot update was 16:50, June 25, 2013 (UTC); it's been down for well over a day. Can you please restart as soon as possible? Many thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 01:48, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- Restarted. Thanks! Shubinator (talk) 04:20, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
