Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Sutrolibrary", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because as the name of a library, it suggests shared use, which is against policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Wikipedia accounts may only be used by one person, and should uniquely identify you. You are welcome to have a name that specifically identifies one person but contains your affiliation (so per your message on your talk page, you could be "Diana at SutroLibrary"). creffett (talk) 19:26, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. GirthSummit (blether) 13:03, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation of block

[edit]

Hi - as the automated notice above indicates, I've blocked this account because it isn't compliant with our username policy. I see that Creffett warned you that this was an issue, but since you have carried on editing without responding to that concern I felt it necessary to impose a block. There are a couple of reasons for this: first, you can't have a username that unambiguously represents an organisation without identifying a specific person (not role) within the organisation; also, since you are writing in the plural first person, I'm concerned that more than one person may have access to this account, which is also not permitted. As Creffett says above, a username like DianeAtSutrolibrary would be fine or; if you don't want your real name attached to the account, pretty much anything is acceptable (SpaceDinosaurAtSutroLibrary would be fine) except for the name of the institution on its own, or something that implies it's a role account (so MarketingSutroLibrary or OutreachSutroLibrary wouldn't be acceptable). You can apply for a change of name in an unblock request, or you could simply create a new account with a different name - that's up to you.

Since I assume that you are editing as part of your job, you also need to be aware of our PAID and COI policies - there are certain requirements and restrictions which apply when editing in return for recompense, or editing about subjects you are connected with. I'm sorry that this wasn't the welcome you probably expected. GirthSummit (blether) 13:13, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Diana at SutroLibrary! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Information icon Hello, I'm TJRC. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Agnews Developmental Center have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. TJRC (talk) 20:54, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Agnews Developmental Center. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Diana, please stop adding this in text. It doesn't belong there. READ WP:ELPOINTS, PLEASE. This is the third time I've pointed you to it and you keep putting this EL into the text.

STOP IT.

The EL is present in the External Links section, where it is appropriate. Do not keep reinserting it. TJRC (talk) 23:17, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adding "references" that are not references

[edit]

Hi, Diana. I see you are adding many "references" to your employer to articles where the reference does not support the reference being added.

Please stop doing that. The purpose of adding a reference is to provide verifiability for the text it is purported to support.

I'm looking for example, at this edit you made to Caryl Chessman. The text is "Over the course of nearly twelve years on death row Chessman filed dozens of appeals, acting as his own attorney, and successfully avoided eight execution deadlines, often by a few hours." You added a cite to the website for the Chessman-Asher Collection at [1]. Nothing at that URL gives any information supporting that statement.

I know you really, really want links to the California Digital Library in Wikipedia, and perhaps you're being paid to make them; but this is not the right way to do it. Please read WP:REFSPAM, the Wikipedia policy you are violating.

Interestingly, I think a pointer to this CDL collection would be perfectly appropriate as an External Link to the Chessman article, and I would not object to having it there; but please stop shoehorning it into article, okay?

Also: if you are making these edits as part of your job, you must read and follow the Wikipedia Paid-contribution disclosure policy. It is not optional. TJRC (talk) 20:23, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
