Wow you are the first person I think I've ever welcomed whose actually became an active member of wikipedia [not including other wikimedia projects/wikinews]. I guess that's because I mostly welcome people who I see vandalize stuff, and I don't really expect that they're going to be constructive. Its nice to see such an active new contributor. Cad Operator

Don't be offended but I've reverted a couple of well-intentioned but erroneous edits you made to the article Cad Operator. You altered "despatch" to "dispatch" throughout; whilst this is the correct American-English spelling, "despatch" is the correct spelling in this context as it forms part of the title of a (British) software package. I've also reverted your changing of "active duties" to "street patrols" - these are most definitely not the same thing! (At any time the Met has around 15,000 officers on active duties, of which at most 1000 - and usually no more than 100-200 - will be on street patrols.)

I've left your {{unsourced}} marker in place as it's technically accurate. However, I only recently separated this article out of its parent article, Metcall, and all relevant citations are there; in addition, all facts are drawn from the MPS documents listed in the References section. Hi, Budding Journalist. I read your invitation to me about the League of copyeditors and I must regretfully decline. I do support the direction of the project, but I have too much on my plate right now to take on another wikiproject. I think many of Fowler's ideas are outdated, but I agree with the entry on Elegant variation. I'm not really a fan of journalism. Hehe — reverse order! I think variation is valid, but not for the purpose of avoiding repetition. I think better writing should do that. Re thesauribus

In answer to your question: yes, "thesauri". "thesuarus" is a Greek-borrowing in Latin, hence "thesauri". But "thesuaruses" is also valid, albeit less lofty. In Latin and Greek, the word means "treaure, treasury". Rintrah 12:31, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bishop of Thatcher's War Playground—I mean, the Falkland Islands

I am confused by this sentence: "Bishop of the Falkland Islands is a bishopric in the Church of England, originally the ordinary of the Diocese of the Falkland Islands. Contents."—First, what does everything following the comma mean? And second, what is its syntactic relation to the rest of the sentence?

As you can see, I couldn't get past the first sentence.

By the way, my father, a British citizen, was in the Falkland islands during the Falklands war. He actually encountered Argentian troops, who treated him rather well, despite their initial suspicions. He couldn't get over how patriotic the Argentinians were, but when he came to England, he found the citizens there were worse. Rintrah 07:40, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re Hand of Goal Controversy

If you asked me brother, you would probably get a diatribe. I was rather amused Maradona got away with it, but the incident was long before my time.

I was upset about a match not long ago between the Socceroos and Italy in the World Cup finals, which Italy won because an Italian player took a dive in the last minute. He suddenly lost balance because he saw a Socceroos defender in front of him on the ground. So, with just enough time to plan a dive, he slowly walked into the Socceroos player and leaned forward, and lo! He fell forward, making a dramatic dive and grinning afterward. Wikipedia:WikiProject Vandalism studies/Obama article study

Thanks for this. Hoping you will consider extending the study to include the Barack Obama article's current experiment with unprotection which (at least so far) looks encouraging. Here's something I did that might yield a few more ideas. My snap hypothesis after reviewing this sample: We are dealing mainly with badly behaved children at play (editing in the early evening, after school, mostly from small town, USA)... play is how children learn best, and encyclopedias are for learning. So what do we teach? In this line of thinking I think maximum openness is a smart investment in the future. --HailFire 18:08, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

LoCE copyedit progress template

Are you still involved with the LoCE? I haven't seen you around there in a while. I wanted to make an update to the to the progress template (I wanted to append the graph to display copyedited but not proofread counts too), but I didn't want to do anything without talking to you first as it was your creation. Also, there has been a bit of talk about me creating a bot to automatically update the template, but again, I wanted to get your input before proceeding.
