Request reason:

Dear Wikipedia Support Team,

I am writing to appeal the decision to block me from editing the G.B Pant Engineering College, New Delhi page on Wikipedia. I strongly believe that my editing was correct, beneficial for students, and did not infringe on any copyrights.

I would like to emphasize that all the content that I added to the page was directly sourced from the official website of the college. The college has no objections to this information being used on Wikipedia, and in fact, it can be extremely helpful for potential students who are looking for information about the college.

Furthermore, my editing was intended to improve the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the page. As admission is about to start this month, it is crucial that students have access to reliable and up-to-date information about the college. By removing the page, this creates confusion among students and may cause them to miss out on important information that could influence their decision to apply to the college.

I understand that Wikipedia has strict policies and guidelines regarding editing, but I would like to assure you that all of my edits were made in good faith and with the intention of improving the page. I request that you kindly reconsider your decision and revert the page back to its original state, with my edits intact.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

WikiEditor9599

Decline reason:

Wikipedia has articles, not pages, in the encyclopedia. Wikipedia has no interest in helping prospective students apply to your college. Our only interest is in summarizing what independent reliable sources say about a topic. That you copied the content from the college website is part of the problem here, that is indeed a copyright violation- which you were told at the Administrators' incident board. It states "all rights reserved" on the college website. You are incorrect that the use of the text is fair use(even if Indian law applied to a website physically located in the United States); the non-free content policy states "Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose." You can write about the college in your own words, summarizing what independent sources say about it, so a free equivalent is available.

You also have not discussed your obvious connection to the college. As noted by the blocking admin, you are free to make formal edit requests(click for instructions) on the article talk page of the college. If you work for the college or have a strong conflict of interest, that's what you should be doing anyway. I see no reason to remove the partial block. 331dot (talk) 07:52, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

As I just extended the block to also cover Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University I'll not be the admin to decline your appeal. I will point out that "all the content that I added to the page was directly sourced from the official website of the college" is a clear admission of copyright violation which also shows that you do not yet understand the problem. Cabayi (talk) 07:16, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Now, I have understood my mistake and I will never repeat the same mistake, please revert the Original page as students will get confused if they will not find the page on Wikipedia. I have understood that I can not directly use any other website's copyrighted content and I will never do this in future. Also, I want to mention that In India under section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for “fair use” for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, education and research. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditor9599 (talkcontribs) 07:31, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Thank you for your response. I appreciate the feedback and understand the policies regarding Wikipedia articles.

I apologize for my mistake in using content from the college website, and I understand that this was a copyright violation. I don't have any connection with the college, I am a Social Media Creator and Reviewer, and I will take your advice to make formal edit requests on the article talk page of the college in the future. Also, I believe that due to my mistake the Article of the college was removed and merged with another article , I request you to revert the article , as the contents added by me is violating the rules of Wikipedia , I request you to revert the original article before my editing.

I would also like to add that this was my first mistake on Wikipedia, and I assure you that I will never make the same mistake again. I understand the importance of adhering to copyright laws and the policies and guidelines of Wikipedia. I will make sure to be more careful and vigilant in my future editing on the platform.

I will make sure to adhere to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines and only use reliable independent sources when editing articles on the platform. I understand that the purpose of Wikipedia is to summarize independent reliable sources and provide a free and neutral platform for information.

Thank you for your time and for helping me understand the policies better.

Sincerely,

Decline reason:

Given that you can make edit requests on the talk page of those articles, and you are otherwise not blocked from any other pages, the unblock request does not present a compelling reason for an unblock at this time. I am declining your unblock request because it does not adequately address the COI concerns as noted below. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that the block is not necessary because you both understand what you have been blocked for and that you will not continue to make the same type of edits that caused the block in the first place. This unblock request does not convey either of those. You are only partially blocked, and only from two articles. There are many, many other articles you can edit; my suggestion would be to try editing other articles constructively for a few months to show that you can edit constructively without issue before making any further unblock requests. Non-admin question: there are, at the time of checking, 6,649,616 pages you are still able to edit on Wikipedia and just two you cannot. If you don't have any connection to the college, why are those two pages so important to you?

Dorsetonian (talk) 09:46, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As I mentioned above I am a Social Media Creator and Reviewer so, Recently I reviewed this college and I collected all the necessary information for this college from the college authorities , they mentioned me that this college has been recently gone through many changes so, I just updated all the necessary latest information. May be that has influenced my actions. I apologize for this mistake.
Now, I have understood the COI policy , so, Now I will not edit this article and will avoid editing articles where I have a significant conflict of interest. Thank you for your time and for helping me understand the policies better. At last, I request you to please revert back the original article of G.B Pant Engineering College, New Delhi without the editing done by me.— Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditor9599 (talkcontribs)
So you do work for the college, just not as an employee. Does the college compensate you for your work as a social media creator and Reviewer? 331dot (talk) 15:03, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, I don't work for the college, & the college does not compensate for my work. I review all colleges and provide information . Actually I like to add each place on internet so that people can easily get information about that particular place.— Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditor9599 (talkcontribs)
Please sign your posts. You said above that you are in communication with the college. Your edits referred to "our alumni". So you are a social media creator and reviewer out of the goodness of your heart? Why are you doing it, if not to get paid or earn a living? 331dot (talk) 16:32, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that people may find it hard to believe that I engage in certain activities without the motivation of profit or financial gain. However, in my case, I can assure you that I engage in social media creation and review out of personal interest and without any monetary compensation. I do it simply because I enjoy it and find satisfaction in contributing to the community. While it is true that some individuals do make a living from these activities, I am not one of them.
I understand that I used the phrase "our alumni" in my previous edits, and I acknowledge that this phrase may give the impression of a conflict of interest. However, I would like to clarify that this phrase was directly sourced from the college website, as I previously mentioned. Despite this, I understand the importance of maintaining neutrality and avoiding the appearance of bias or personal interest in my edits.
Now I have carefully read all the policies and rules of Wikipedia and I will never do these mistakes again.
Thanking You
Thankyou for your Valuable Time

I must be frank- I don't buy it. Maybe someone else will and I have it wrong, but I don't buy it. Your request will be considered by someone else in consultation with the blocking admin, and not involve me further, but I must oppose removing the partial block. You are still free to edit the rest of the encyclopedia and make edit requests about the college or other topics for which you have a COI. 331dot (talk) 19:20, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your position, but I want to assure you that I am being honest about my intentions. I understand that it may be difficult to believe, but I genuinely have no financial or personal gain from editing the college page on Wikipedia. I simply wanted to provide accurate information to students who may be interested in the college.
I want to clarify that my intention was to update the article for good reasons, and I didn't realize that my actions could result in the page being deleted. I feel guilty about this, and that's why I am requesting that the original page be restored and my edits be removed from the page.
However, I respect your decision and understand that my request will be considered by someone else in consultation with the blocking admin. Regardless of the outcome, I appreciate your time and consideration. I will make sure to follow the proper procedures and guidelines for making edit requests about the college or other topics . WikiEditor9599 (talk) 07:03, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Social Media Creator and Reviewer" is a description of a paid position, or a position where somebody hopes to get paid. To be frank, we do not need any "Social Media Creators and Reviewers" editing Wikipedia, and are much better off without them. There are many social media outlets where you can practice your trade. Wikipedia is not among them. Go blog elsewhere. Cullen328 (talk) 07:19, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I think I'm not able to convey my message to you or may be you are not able to understand the Indians. We are always helpful and it's our nature, We do not always expect in return something . I don't know what will be your final decision but Thank You for your valuable time.
