New York City Meetup

Next: Sunday January 18th, Columbia University area
Last: 11/01/2008
This box: view  talk  edit

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, look at our approval by the Chapters Committee, develop ideas for chapter projects at museums and libraries throughout our region, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the November meeting's minutes and the December mini-meetup's minutes).

We'll make preparations for our exciting museum photography Wikipedia Loves Art! February bonanza (on Flickr, on Facebook) with Shelley from the Brooklyn Museum and Alex from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

We'll also be collecting folks to join our little Wikipedia Takes the Subway adventure which will be held the day after the meeting.

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list.

Chat

Luis, seeing you edit again, made my day. I hope that you are back with us. Tony the Marine (talk) 06:46, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

  • I just wanted to comment that in our new "List of Puerto Ricans" format we now add references after every new additions in order to keep a control of the list. Don't worry, I added the reference to Conchita Cintron. Tony the Marine (talk) 07:11, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
    • Hey Tony, I decided to come back after a year of mourning after my mother's passing. I will add more names including Ralph Mercado, who died on Monday and was the founder of the 2nd largest Salsa music label in the world, RMM Records.--XLR8TION (talk) 10:10, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Re:Request for Assistance: Quentin Elias article

Your request for a semi-protection of the Quentin Elias article has been granted. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:37, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Re:Removal of Ancestry

I have answered in my talk page. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:10, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Good! It is agreed that "ethnicity" will not be mentioned in the intro. even though it can be mentioned within the article. It is great when a discussion can be settled in a civil level-headed manner as you both have done. If any of you ever need my advice please do not hesitate to ask. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:28, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

List of Puerto Ricans

Mi hermano, please don't forget to add a reliable verifiable source to "Hex Hector" and the others that you add. I even apply this rule to myself, in case anyone doubts any of my additions, they can verifiy that the person which I have added indeed is a Boricua. Gracias. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:59, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Q: "Regarding hex, do I have to place the link in the list?"

A: Yes, this is now being done in other list's (We started it) and will make it much easier for us (including you my friend, whom fully trust) to verify the entries of the names which we are unfamiliar with without having to go through the trouble of viewing the full article. Tony the Marine (talk) 21:06, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

List of HIV positive people

To answer your question in this edit summary. No. One, I worked enough on this list. If you want to add the name, you are responsible for a reliable source. Two, I was actually planning on searching for a reliable source later but until a reliable source can be found a bad source should be removed from this featured list. Garion96 (talk) 13:39, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

The fact that I worked on this list was only in reply to your "instead of reverting etc" edit summary. I don't own or want to own this list. I do however keep it checked for reliable sources, which a blog definitely is not, and will keep on removing them on sight rather then having a badly sourced entry to stay on this list. Garion96 (talk) 17:37, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Once again. Bad sources should and are removed from this list on sight. I didn't had the time this morning to find a reliable source and was not going to keep a bad source on the list. Either way, NY times is a reliable source so the list is ok. Garion96 (talk) 17:55, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Hans Hertell

I have viewed the war-editing situation in the Hans Hertell article and have expressed myself here: Hans Hertell article situation. Tony the Marine (talk) 23:52, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your feedback. I am not at all proud of this one. It was just a quick reaction to an idiotic attempt to delete the article, so I dug up some obvious references and slapped the content together into a rough sequence. It is missing background, there is a lot more to be said, the wording is poor ... Please feel free to expand and improve it. The two countries are intimately related at many levels and the subject deserves much better coverage. Aymatth2 (talk) 01:13, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Re:Roxy image issue

It is done. Tony the Marine (talk) 00:36, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Outer Space Treatyupdate2009.png

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Outer Space Treatyupdate2009.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:11, 2 July 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 12:11, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Medusa: Dare to Be Truthful - Plot

I will ask you very politely to not delete the section, Plot in the article, Medusa: Dare to be Truthful. I have seen the film, and I know what I'm talking about. And 2nd of all, as I examined what I wrote, there WAS NO spelling errors. So I will ask you very politely for you not to delete content that actually exist in the film.

Thank you for your time and consideration. --74.197.86.10 (talk) 22:00, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

You need to go to WP:RFPP to ask for page protection. Who then was a gentleman? (talk) 23:15, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

According to what I heard from my family and friends, everyone has immunity to edit any article, and that's what I'm doing. I already asked you politely to let me edit the article. It's not poor English. I checked. And it's not unconstructive. Have you seen the film? Hmmm... I don't think you did. But I did. I'm not stupid. I'm not retarded. I'm not dumb. So please, I will be polite for the last time, and ask you NICELY for you NOT to delete any edits I make. And if you continue deleting my edits, I will NO LONGER be polite.

Thank you for your time and consideration. 74.197.86.10 (talk) 22:54, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

I will try.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 02:08, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Medusa: Dare to Be Truthful

Medusa: Dare to Be Truthful has been protected because of a request made by User:XLR8TION who claims that User:74.197.86.10 is involved in edit-warring, destroying it with unconstructive entries that contain pointless information and bad grammar. All parties interested in the subject are encouraged to discuss the issue here. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:57, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Outer Space Treatyupdate2009.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image with an unknown source or an unknown copyright status which has been tagged as such for more than 7 days, and it still lacks the necessary information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Intentona de Yauco

My dear friends, you all have heard of El Grito de Lares, but have you ever heard of the Intentona de Yauco? Enjoy. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:41, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Protected

Maxwell (musician) has been protected. This article has been protected against any further war-editing by request of User:XLR8TION who claims that for the last three months unregistered users have been editing the article changing the subjects ancestry.

Wikipedia policy clearly states that any additions or changes to its articles "must" cite and provide reliable verifiable sources and this is more so on the biographies of living persons. Unless, the subjects ancestry can be proven as such, any changes may be considered as vandalism and those making such changes may be blocked from editing in Wikipedia. All discussion to this subject should be carried out in the articles talk page: Talk:Maxwell_(musician)#Protected, Thank you, 21:47, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Please see WP:Lede

In short, no, a lede should generally never be a one sentence bit. It needs to summarize the article. -- Banjeboi 04:45, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Opinion request

When I first wrote the Flag of Puerto Rico article years ago, it was titled "The flags of Puerto Rico" and was intended to be just that, an article about the flags of Puerto Rico. However, with time someone (who made a mess with the edit history) came along and changed the title to the current one.

I am thinking of two options per consensus.

1. Leaving the current title, "spliting" the article, keeping only the story of the "Flag" and it's evolution and creating separate articles about the "municipal" and "political" flags and have them interwiklinked in the "See also" sections.

or ....

2. Changing the title back to "Flags of Puerto Rico", its original title and keeping the article as it is, which would be less troublesome.

or ....

3. Just leave it as it is.

Your thoughts will be highly appreciated. Tony the Marine (talk) 01:06, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Re:Sosthenes Behn and Hernan Behn

If they made Puerto Rico their home and you have the reference, then add their names. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:58, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Fantastic pictures

You have got to check out the fantastic pictures of old-Puerto Rico here: [1]. The good thing is that the majority of them are pre-1923, when there were no copyright laws and can be used by anyone in our project. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:08, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Edit warring

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on List of Lebanese people. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. –Juliancolton | Talk 21:27, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

You may be interested in Talk:Joseph_Barbera#Joseph_Barbera_ethnicity.. And as for Julian's warning, it's obvious he's Italian, but try to avoid edit warring over it. RlevseTalk 21:45, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
