Rollback
Hey Yannis, I am interested in recieving roll back rights. I keep a watch out for Byzantine and warfare/battle articles and find it tedious to undo several edits by the same user.

Talk:Byzantine Empire#Populations - 13th century estimate
Hey Yannis, since you seem to be the most dedicated to maintaining the article by ensuring it is verifiable with references, I was wondering if you could turn your attention to the 13th century estimate of the Byzantine empire's population in article, which has the population at 3,000,000. But 3 million what and where? In 1200, the Empire consisted of mostly western Asia Minor and Greece. 10 years later it was in control of 2/3 of what it had in Western Asia Minor as Nicaea, alone. Or is this figure counting Epirus and Trebizond? Does it count Greeks under Seljuk Turk rule, Latin rule, Greek rule, either or all? You see that this estimate results in more puzzling questions than much useful info. As it stands, without a reference, it is quite unsatisfying in my opinion. The 13th century is a very hectic time for the Empire, a crumbling power in 1200, a battered exile in 1230 and a rising opportunist in 1270.Tourskin (talk) 05:24, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Persian Mesopotamia
Hey, I need your help in resolving a small dispute. The article Persian Mesopotamia has, after much debating, overwhelming amount of references presented by User:Chaldean and the introduction of a Third Opinion been decided to be re-named to Achaemenid Assyria. However, such a move needs an admin or a mod, and thats where my request for your aid comes.
Respectfully,

PS, I know ur busy, but please take a look!!!
- There seems to be a consensus. But let's wait for the 5 days period WP:RM asks for!--Yannismarou (talk) 16:45, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- Right thank you, I was just going to suggest to wait. The discussion was dead when I left you a message thats why. Thanks anyways. Tourskin (talk) 23:04, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Resubmitting Tenacious D for a WP biography peer review
Hi Yannismarou, you made some very constructive comments on a Tenacious D peer review here. I was wondering if I could submit this article for another peer review, as I feel all the issues have been covered in this one. Thanks Tenacious D Fan (talk) 09:40, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Greeks article
Hi Yianni, we recently got the Greeks article to GA status and Nikos suggested you would be a good person to talk to for advice on how to improve it for a possible FA nomination. Your input would be extremely appreciated if you can spare the time since you have brought several articles to FA and know the pitfallas and process. Eucharisto for your time.Xenovatis (talk) 12:35, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Cyprus
I edited the article. How do you find it now? --Ioannes Tzimiskes (talk) 08:48, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice.Much appreciated for my editing in the future. I don't know if you remember how the article looked like (especially History section). I did a nip/tuck rewriting and several times left some sentences intact because of luck of time. As for citations i am not much of an expert about the island's history i retained almost all of them. --Ioannes Tzimiskes (talk) 13:34, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Also Greece national football team
Is way more than B-Level IMO. --Ioannes Tzimiskes (talk) 08:51, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- It can't be more than B, because it has not gone through a GA review. IMO it may even be lower than B, because it has no inline citations. Check the B-Class criteria of WP:GREECE here. As far as the Cyprus article is concerned, I hope I'll read during the week, and you'll have my remarks. Congratulations for your contributions!--Yannismarou (talk) 15:41, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi
I am relatively new in wikipedia, so I would like to make some questions:
- After expanding the article Eleftherios Venizelos, I have submitted it for a review here, but I was wondering how the review works, i.e. who are the people who review the articles, and how rapidly they do it?
- Is possible to have a look at the article (even if it is a quick look) and give me some comments/suggestions/tips?
Thanks in advance! A.Cython (talk) 02:17, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply... I will keep in mind what you told. But what is the normal procedure? First review and then assessment or the other way around? So should I remove the article from assessment list and submit it for review? A.Cython (talk) 13:04, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

I have been working on the Elgin Marbles article for several days now and I am proposing that it be renamed. Unfortunately I have not managed to attract any responses yet, so if you would be interested to comment on my proposal I would appreciate some feedback. RomanHistorian (talk · contribs) was asking me questions about getting Constitution of the Roman Republic up to FA-status. I have no FA-related history and no particular expertise in the article's subject. You seem to have both, so I suggested that he contact you. Cheers, Sarcasticidealist (talk) 12:36, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- Since you have a history in nominating Greek/Roman articles for FA status, I was wondering if you could look at my entry on the Constitution of the Roman Republic. I am interested in taking it to FA status. It is part of my series on the Roman Constitution, but this is probably the best article in the series. I still have a few more weeks of work to do on the other articles in the series, but Constitution of the Roman Republic is almost done. So I was wondering if you could give me your opinion on this.RomanHistorian (talk) 13:05, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Roman-Persian
Γεια σου Γιάννη!
I feel that "continued to designate the late Byzantine state with the same name, without differentiating between Romans and Greeks" is inaccurate because the state was Roman and the people were Roman. It's true that the Persians (and other eastern neighbours) called them Roman (unlike the Western neighbours who called them Greeks, for their own reasons) but simply because that was their name; it wasn't a (somehow) special designation extended to "Byzantium" only by the Persians. 3rdAlcove (talk) 17:28, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps, but it should still be removed. While it might not have been the "mighty Roman empire" it was the 'leftovers' and its inhabitants were the Romans. 3rdAlcove (talk) 17:36, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Since you don't mind, I'll go ahead and remove it. Thanks for being so cooperative. 3rdAlcove (talk) 17:40, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Map
May I ask what kind of a map you are looking for?--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 14:21, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Are you talking about the Roman-Persian Wars article? Read my introductory comment here, and what the reviewer proposes there about maps. The German wiki has two very nice maps (I mention them and link them in the above page), but ideally they should be translated in English. I'd be grateful, if you could have a look at the article in general. Your opinion and suggestions would be welcomed.--Yannismarou (talk) 14:27, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, we are talking about the same map. I saw your request the ohter day and I asked a friend to see if he can do the changes. He is some kind of photoshop wizzkid. He will see if he can do it--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 14:38, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! I am really grateful to you! Ευχαριστώ ανεξαρτήτως αποτελέσματος!--Yannismarou (talk) 14:40, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- If that doesn't work out, you can always use colour legends (orange - Sassanids, yellow - Sassanid vassals and so on. or whatever colour code it used). It'd be a shame to let those maps go to waste. 3rdAlcove (talk) 14:48, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- I have a series of quite relevant articles in PDF, would you be interested?--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 14:51, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Personally, I certainly am. 3rdAlcove (talk) 14:53, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Editing-saving articles
Just a question: is there a way to save articles that one is working on/editing on some sort of wikipage without others seeing it and making contributions/amendments? The obvious is to save everything as a personal Word document but I was wondering if there is another, more wikipedian way. Thanks! Pel thal (talk) 20:19, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sure. Just make a subpage in your namespace, edit the heck out of it, and then move it to the article space. In simple English:
- Click on User:Pel thal/Name of subpage and start editing it.
- Hit the "move" (=rename) tag on the top-center of your screen when you're done
- New article is created and the history (i.e. list of your first edits) follows it in the new name!
- Third users generally won't edit in your namespace, but if they do, you can ask them politely not to. Still, you can invite other users to edit it for help if you wish. Hope that helps. NikoSilver 20:42, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you! Very helpful indeed! Pel thal (talk) 21:14, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Map
The Map will be ready by the end of this week but it will not include any captions. You or somebody else will have to translate the names and include them in the map, is that OK?--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 17:49, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- I sent you the cleared map. If you received it please let me know--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 13:17, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- So, how is it going with the map?--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 18:56, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- I got a bit slow and did nothing! Είμαι τόσο άσχετος με το Photoshop που δεν έχω αξιωθεί να κάνω τίποτε. But some day this week I'm afraid I'll have to test my abilities. In any case, we don't have to put all the captions of the initial map. I think that just some of them would be fine. We don't have to translate everything!--Yannismarou (talk) 19:01, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- I will give it a try now then--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 19:03, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

- Have a look at your email. I just sent it. I'd rather you had a look first and if you find it agreeable than upload it. I don't care who will take the credit as long as it is useful--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 20:44, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- I just had another look and found out that a place name is missing. I don't know whether I should include all of the dates either... So I 'd prefer it if you would send me your comments first. I will try to incorporate as many improvements as possible and then get back to you with the finished result. Aesthetically speaking the original was infinitely better...--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 21:06, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- We cannot have a perfect result. But, at least, we can have a very good map in English. I could put it in the first place in its original form in German. But I thought that it would be better for the English user of the English wiki to have it translated. The second map works already fine with 3rdAlcove's proposal, since what is there basically needed to know is what each color represents.--Yannismarou (talk) 07:47, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

About Enosis
Well, I am not an expert on the subject, but I have seen a few sources describing the Cretan's desire for union as enosis. I will dig a little further in the next few weeks to find these sources (I have a bad memory)... but it might be better (if there are sources that describe it as enosis) to change the enosis' article to be more generic...just an idea... Seleucid-Parthian-Roman map
Hi Yannismarou, yes it should be possible. The only problem I can see is that the base map already has a lot of color on it, but User:Porikolpok Oxom has done a great job of showing me how to add more colored nations with his corrections on my map of Tibet .
I may need a few days to do this, but I will do my best and upload it when finished. Respectfully, Thomas Lessman (talk) 17:22, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sorry Yannismarou, I forgot to check the existing Seleucid map before I posted my response. It only shows part of the Roman Republic (otherwise the map would have been larger than some editors prefer). For this new map, should I expand it to include ALL of the Mediterranean Sea (in order to show all of the Roman Republic), or does the existing map show enough of the Roman Republic for what you need?
- Also, is this (200BC) map the one you want to display, or is there another year you would prefer (hopefully one where I've already made the map!) Thomas Lessman (talk) 18:16, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay I've uploaded a version of the map and replaced the Tibetan map I put here earlier, but it needs a few "fixes".(Image:Rome-Seleucia-Parthia 200ad.jpg) Like I uploaded it under the wrong filename (ad instead of bc). And I want to add "Roman" above "Republic". I'll make those fixes and upload them under the correct filename either tonight or tomorrow morning. If you have any thoughts or anything else you'd like to see on it, this would be a good time to point it out! Respectfully, Thomas Lessman (talk) 01:47, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I just uploaded the finished product. I actually did quite a few changes, especially which color went to which nation. It just doesn't seem right unless Rome is the purple one..!
Anyway, the finished map is (Image:Rome-Seleucia-Parthia_200bc.jpg). It's also in this discussion thread, right where I've been placing maps related to this discussion. Let me know if there are any problems or questions, etc. Respectfully, Thomas Lessman (talk) 08:32, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Hellenism
Hi, Yannis, You apparently have something to do with the replacement of a relatively informative page on Hellenism and introducing, unfortunately, quite original page that reveals your, although you are Greek (!), may be slightly defective knowledge what concerns Hellenism in general. You do not seam to be a Hellenist by profession and I would suggest that this page be written by the experts. You now removed my just a slight improvements on the introduction (the rest still contains number of mistakes!), that was obviously not up to date. Can you explain why?Draganparis (talk) 13:09, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you want an encyclopedia written by the "experts" you are at the wrong place my friend. In any case, judging by the edit I reverted, allow me to to have my doubts on whether you qualify as an "expert" or not. I would also suggest that you have a look at Wikipedia's policies, and understand the notion of "consensus". Your edit significantly altered and obscured the meaning of the lead; therefore it was not an "improvement", but an important change, which IMO should have been discussed in the talk page. Now, if you want to know why I regard it as inaccurate, raise the issue in the appropriate place (the article's talk page), and you will have my comments. But I do not intend to discuss the issue here. Respectfully,--Yannismarou (talk) 06:43, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Would you care to explain why this article was not moved?--mrg3105 (comms) ♠♥♦♣ 13:48, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Because there was no consensus.--Yannismarou (talk) 13:51, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

- I read. Actually I read more than once! And I saw that you were the only one who had this opinion! Everybody else disagreed.--Yannismarou (talk) 14:00, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Did you read the bit where I was citing as a source the official government website for the state of which the city is a capital? Since when do a bunch of Wikipedia editors over-rule a national government policy on English usage? Of all the lamest excuses offered the last was best....the webmaster made a mistake! Did that editor even have a concept of what it takes to produce an official website for a government in Europe?
- I do no have opinions, I present facts. The fact is that the government of Moldova uses Chisinau in English. The fact is also that almost every editor opposing this had an agenda due to being Romanian. Unless you can offer a better explanation for failing to move the article, I will take this to the ArbCom as a blatant exhibition of an administrative bias towards a political agenda on your behalf--mrg3105 (comms) ♠♥♦♣ 14:59, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- What you present as "facts" was questioned with strong arguments by almost every other participating in the discussion. And, before arguing that "almost every editor opposing this had an agenda due to being Romanian", I suggest that you examine a bit more carefully the nationalities of those voting "no".
- Anyway, the only "fact" here is that I cannot do what you demand, because that would be a violation of WP policies. Therefore, you are free to act as you wish. Before going to ArbCom, which is regarded as an "ultimum refugium", you can also ask any other administrator you want to reverse my decision if he agrees with you. Or even better you can go to WP:AN/I. Respectfully,--Yannismarou (talk) 15:42, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Question
When an article mentions that an X person comes from Aegean Macedonia should the reader be redirected to Aegean Macedonia or to Aegean Macedonia? I think that confusion should be avoided but is there any specific policy for similar cases? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Giorgos Tzimas (talk • contribs) 16:03, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- I read at the top of the Aegean Macedonia that "this article is about the term "Aegean Macedonia", for the region in Greece, see Macedonia (Greece)." Therefore, as I read this excerpt, I get the impression that, if we want for the origin of a person, we must refer to the region, namely to Macedonia (Greece); the other article is only about a historical term. But I do not think that there is a "policy" in the way you mean it, as a repeated practice established in such cases. And I do not think that the MOSMAC can help.--Yannismarou (talk) 16:14, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I just wanted to know if there has been any relevant consensus on that, because I found an instance of the usage Aegean Macedonia in the article about Risto Kirjazovski. I think that this usage can create confusion so I redirected to Aegean Macedonia--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 16:52, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Zeibekiko
Dear Yannis, I am trying to expand and source the zeibekiko article, but the disruptive anonymous editor probably assumed another IP adress and he is now up to his old tricks again. Could you please have a look? What's the proper course of action in similar cases? I don't want to get entangled in any kind of edit warring or break the 3R rule--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 16:52, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

James C. Duff peer review
Hey there! Thank you for reviewing the article James C. Duff. I liked your comment about the section heading, and I changed the "Biographical information" to "Personal life", because it really does sound better. I had a question regarding this comment though: "The citation-tags need fixing". I'm not really certain what exactly needs to be changed. Can you clarify this a little so that I can fix it? Thanks again for the review; it was a big help! — OranL (talk) 22:17, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- I mean the [citation needed] tags, which, as I now see, are mostly fixed with the addition of proper citations.--Yannismarou (talk) 08:05, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll see if I can get the articles to verify this information. Thanks! — OranL (talk) 15:42, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Margaret Dryburgh
Hi, you just rated Margaret Dryburgh as a B, but said 'there are problems with the article.' Could you let me know what they are, and I'll sort things out. Thanks.--seahamlass 12:50, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- First of all, why is there throughout an article a preference on her fisrt name "Margaret", and why don't you follow the trend by using the last name? Also, in the lead, you don't make clear who she is exactly, and what she did. Have a look at WP:LEAD. Now, if you want further comments, I don't have a problem to give the article a pee-review.--Yannismarou (talk) 12:54, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi, I've changed the first name refs to surname ones, per your suggestion. Thanks for the offer of a peer review, but it is a bit too soon I think. I only wrote it last night!--seahamlass 13:05, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Yanni's new user page
The changes made to your userpage were enough to make me betray the announcement of my wikibreak (and I usually stick to my word). I'm shocked:) I guess you never seize to amaze me in virtual or real life!... Have fun pulling other people's leg :) :) Pel thal (talk) 07:19, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Happy to see that it is funny (this was the purpose)! Not happy to attract you from your academic obligations per wikibreak-template! But if it is to bring you back actively in wikipedia by changing my userpage, then I'll do it more often! Does this also work for Βίκι?!
We need good editors and persons with humor (it is often a species endangered with extincition in wiki!) hanging around. After all, this new userpage is at a certain level influenced by a humoristic dialogue (the best ever!) I had some time ago with a great guy, Ceoil. Cheers!--Yannismarou (talk) 07:41, 20 June 2008 (UTC)- So now I'm classified as belonging to an "endangered species (homo humoristicus maybe?)" to which you also belong since you seem to be of the humorous kind... What else will I hear before my ears fall of (even though I always knew I was special!)? Changing your userpage in such an obscene way will attract attention to any WP version! I promise I'll contribute to WP as soon as I'll have got on a bit with my essays. That will be profitable for both parts: I'll (hopefully) get good marks for my essays and, with the acquired knowledge, I'll be able to produce or edit a relevant article on WP (win-win strategy!). Actually, I'm already collaborating with a fellow Greek wikipedian on a Βίκι article. In the mean time (while one is busy with academic obligations), continue your editing because human knowledge cannot fathom itself without its Yannismarou! Ave! Something unrelated
I just noticed your user talk archives have gotten misplaced, they are in main talk namespace. Could you move them to User talk:..../archive... please? - And thank you for your explanations with the dialects, good stuff. Fut.Perf. ☼ 08:48, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
De-palatalization or palatalization?
Πω πω βρε Γιάννη, your discussion with FP brought me back to my student days... LOL Two long and excruciating semesters of phonology were more than I could chew back then... At any rate I am not sure whether απουράνωση means "de-palatalisation". The απο- morpheme has very diverse meanings in Greek. It means "fully, thourougly, completely" as in "απο-βλάκωση", "αφ-ιέρωση", "απο-χαύνωση", "από-δοση" but it is also similar with the romance morpheme de- as in αποσύνθεση, αποδόμηση, αποχώρηση and the like. Strangely enough, I couldn't find anything in my dictionaries...--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 08:54, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, but if the term is supposed to describe the phenomenon you both identified, about /sjV/ > /sV/, then "de-" actually makes sense, because the /j/ segment getting lost is in fact a palatal element, so I think we can treat this mystery as solved. Fut.Perf. ☼ 09:00, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- I was leaving a message on your talk page and I didn't see your comment here. I am fine with the explanation!--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 09:05, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- (two edit conflicts with Giorgos and Fut.! Let's see now!!) I never attended lessons of phonology, although Greek linguistics was always my μεράκι, and I was interested in as an amateur! So, guys, I have no idea about the translation! But, if Fut. says so ... well ... I may trust him finally!--Yannismarou (talk) 09:10, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Slavophone Greeks/(Agean Macedonians)

Nice job Yannis with the suposed law. Unfortunetelly as it seems there are many such information that cerculate even among "indepentent organazations" (like Helnsiki monitor watch).
Check again the [[3]] especially the information I have added about KKE and its possition.

Peer review request
Dear Yannismarou, In December 2006 you gave the Meher Baba page a peer review that was very helpful to those working on the article. Clearly every effort was made to respond to your suggestions. Several editors have expressed in the discussion over the last months that the article attempt to achieve A or FA status. One editor feels it should be reduced from GA. So there is some confusion on how to assess it. You are the only editor I am requesting at this time as peer review guidelines ask that we not make multiple solicitations for help. If you don't have time or feel you don't want to do a second review, I hope you will suggest another editor or steer me on my talk page in the appropriate direction for how to procede. Thank you very much and much appreciation for your help in the past. DeanaG (talk) 11:52, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'll have the article peer-reviewed tomorrow.--Yannismarou (talk) 12:19, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you. It is much appreciated. DeanaG (talk) 12:41, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- You may want to comment at Wikipedia:Good_article_reassessment/Meher_Baba/1. It seems that the article never went through a proper GA nomination. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 15:32, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

well maybe he just cant be bothered wasting his time when every source i present is knocked back. You obviously keep relying on this Vlasidis report, which is obviously greek POV. Anyway who is Vlasidis some random university student? Come on please present solid evidence from neutral western scholars not some greek fabrication. PMK1 (talk) 04:20, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Re to your Re to your Re: Well that would depend on what side of the fence you stand on? Wouldn't it? Out of curiosity who is this Vlasidis character? PMK1 (talk) 07:45, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Well: "the united forces of a scholar and of a local politician", clearly very neutral. But anyways from my basic greek-reading skills would "λέκτορας" mean something like lecturer, perhaps??? Also in regards to the law, you found no evidence of so i dropped it. The helsinki gave the wrong law, so naturally the information was removed. I havent reinstated it or anything. As for the text im sure an online translator will be fine, thanx for the read. PMK1 (talk) 08:21, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

On your peer review of Ayumi Hamasaki
Thanks muchly for the peer review of Ayumi Hamasaki. I'm afraid I totally missed it when you reviewed it, as I was working on some other projects at the time. But I have heeded your suggestions and made the necessary changes. Sorry for the delay in responding and thanks again! (And yeah, in response to your post-script, I did take my username from the Greek god of death. :D) Thanatous (talk) 05:29, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

That's just for the record, so here's your "university" student Vlasidis and here's the proper full reference Vlassis Vlasidis - Veniamin Karakostanoglou, Recycling Propaganda: Remarks on Recent Reports on Greece's "Slav-Macedonian Minority", Balkan Studies, 1996. Redde Caesari quae sunt Caesaris if you ask me.--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 08:14, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- See also my last comment in PMK1's talk page if you want!--Yannismarou (talk) 08:20, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Excuse me for the belated response but I just found the time to write to you. Although I largely agree with your comments on PMK's page I have to say that I prefer not to perceive them as "enemies" in a strict sense. Hopefully, there will come a time when they 'll stop perceiving us as such and they will realize that we are not some kind of fascist, genocidal, blood thirsty maniacs, bent on destroying their national identity and their country. The way I see it some of their grievances are actually justified and this is something we must always keep in mind. I am sure that most of them are idealists, utterly convinced about the validity of their "cause" and the need to rectify what they perceive as historical "injustice", but there is also this throng of rabid nationalists (a species not unknown to Greece unfortunately) that simply create a poisonous atmosphere. The situation is profoundly sad, actually, both people have been through a lot during the past century and this suffering should not be allowed to fester any longer--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 16:11, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- You know, sometimes we may understand each other, and we may also have the will to speak to each other sincerely and openly. But again a common ground cannot be easily found, in order to agree to the x or z wording. We tend to complicate things, or the things are complicated per se. Or this "poisonous" atmosphere has poisoned generations before us, and we cannot easily overcome its influence. For instance, I had I think excellent relations with the best Turkish editor, Baris (unfortunately inactive for some time), but I do not remember ourselves resolving any major disagreement of ours in the Turkish-Greece related articles!--Yannismarou (talk) 16:44, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- I hope you didn't think that I tried to lecture you or something. I am well aware of the situation and how difficult it is to communicate or reconcile things with such an overburdened past. But that's exactly what I mean by profoundly sad. I can't help thinking that I would probably find most of these people interesting and likeable fellows if it weren't for this ghastly debate. Most of them seem quite intelligent and if you forget for a minute some of their wildest claims, their zeal for what they perceive as just is commendable nomatter how misplaced. I lived in France and Germany for a while and you very well know that these two countries shared a much more terrible past of agression and conflict. They found a way to coexist and they now (almost) like each other. I only wish we could do just the same (yeah, yeah I know that this is simply wishful thinking, but...)--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 17:10, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- I never thought you lecture me. Your opinions are always welcome. And I agree with you. Unfortunately, not only here in Wikipedia, but in our real life as well, we have a great distance to cover in order to become like France and Germany. Note that in these two countries the politicians do not any more use their differences in order to fanaticize the people. Unfortunately, this is not our case: See the stance of the governing party of fYROM, of many parliamentarians, parties (such as LAOS) and local Macedonian politicians in Greece, and of the political elite (now in the opposition until they outlaw Erdogan) in Turkey. Inherent fears of the people, generations of hate, electoral canvassing, and fanaticism nourished by politicians is the explosive mix that still differs South Balkans and Turkey from the France-Germany case. There is a different level of maturity.--Yannismarou (talk) 17:25, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- The frightening part is that they had to go through two world wars to reach this level of maturity. Have to go now but it was indeed a pleasure having this discussion with you. Καλή συνέχεια και τα λέμε :-)--Giorgos Tzimas (talk) 17:34, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

There is a great story benind this clip; following a national debate if the pogues were better than the better than the dubliners they did a song together that stayed on the national charts for about a year. Its basically a batton being passed. The dubliners always had that touch of class. Here is a pogues cover of maybe their best song. Note the way they all stand up for the intervial; thats in respect for the dubliners. One of my favourite traditions is that when a priest is eulogising all the men stand and walk toward the coffin, and put their hands in respect. Ceoil Non visto ...
