Thank you for your support in my RfA, which ended with the result of (74/0/0). If there is anything I can help with feel free to ask. Also, if there is anything I am doing wrong, please point that out as well. I look forward to working with you in the future.

As you protected this article more than a week ago and there now is consensus on the talk page to rename it I would like you to unprotect. Añoranza 13:02, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- The concensus is to rename it to Invasion of Panama, feel free to see the discussion page about it. Under the page for protection removal the above user mistated this as US Invasion of Panama, which there does not currently exist a concensus on. --zero faults |sockpuppets| 13:08, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for voting! Hello YellowMonkey/Archive9, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care. |

- You also might want to keep watch on the Boys And Girls (song) article. Someone rather overzealously deleted it, so I took that as a warning to make it more notable when I re-created it. The fact that she never performed it might make it less than notable, but non-performed songs are just as relevant to the ESC, IMO. BigHaz 08:33, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Following his increasingly bizarre comments on the AfD of Du Bist, I'm about 99% certain that he's in violation of WP:POINT, which is admittedly only a guideline but a pretty strong one. The problem is, of course, that I can't exactly call him on that for fear of making a personal attack. Sorry to ask you to weigh in again, but would you be able to have a look at the situation? - Thanks for the heads-up on the artists etc. I'll keep a weather eye out when I think of it. I do try to remember to categorise the songs, but it tends to be more of a case of typing up a handful and then thinking "Argh. Forgot to put categories beyond the country-stub!" rather than doing it as I go. Still, I hope I'll get better at it! Re Brian Kennedy, though, there were certainly rumours about him being gay prior to the performance. When I hit the Irish entries, I might see what I can scare up on the ol' interweb. - Comment left on Sango's page:
- It seems like it would be a good idea, but twice (mine included) the idea was shot down. Mainly, I think this was because of the fact that the Olympic rings are a fair use image. If someone could think of a better way to create an Olympic barnstar without the rings, that'd be great and would make a wonderful proposal. For now, though, I'm not so sure that it'd work. Please, though, give it a try if at all possible! → JARED (t) 17:35, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I am aware of the previous discussions and was thinking of using an Olympic Flame instead of the rings. The Running Man Barnstar already covers work in sports, but this could probably serve as an award for WikiProject Sports Olympics. Sango123 18:15, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Not sure about deletion
[edit]Blnguyen-
My entry was deleted by you and I'm inquiring as to further explination of why. I am genuine and forthright with my entry and not sure why it warrents deletion. The reason states that it is a random group of people, which is true (even though I'm not sure why random). Why does a group of people not warrent an entry? I've updated with more references that I believe make it a more contributing entry to Wiki. Any insights would be helpful. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nordexpress (talk • contribs)

A short Esperanzial update
[edit]As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

A page move, when you get the chance
[edit]Just wondering if you could rename Love, Shine a Light to "Love Shine A Light". Block of User:172.144.0.222
[edit]FYI: I removed your 48 hour block to impose a longer one. In my opinion, there is no reason for us to tolerate someone who is clearly a returning vandal who is using intentionally profane edit summaries. Wikibofh(talk) 03:33, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- I have a major problem with blocks like this. There is no actual evidence that this is a returning vandal. And by blocking an IP that is probably dynamic or shared for a month, you are creating a large possibility for collateral damage. --Woohookitty(meow) 08:38, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- You can change it if you want then - I'm a dunce with IP technics - so do as you please with the technical details.Blnguyen | rant-line 08:41, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well with IPs, you have 3 types. You have static IPs. Those are folks who are on the same IP address every time they logon. Those are easy to spot because they generally edit the same articles over and over again. People using cable modems or DSLs are usually static.
- You can change it if you want then - I'm a dunce with IP technics - so do as you please with the technical details.Blnguyen | rant-line 08:41, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Then you have shared IPs. These are often at schools. Several students share the exact same IP address. So blocking the IP blocks every user using the IP from editing. 90% of the time, the talk page of the IP user says it's from such and such a school. This almost always means shared IP.
- Finally, you have dynamic IPs. With them, their IP # changes every time they go online...and with AOL and other ISPs, it'll even change while they are online. These you can spot by either looking at the talk page (where it says it's from an ISP or whatever). Or the other clue is an edit history with edits to totally different articles. The problem with blocking dynamic IPs for longer than say an hour or 3 hours is that once that vandal logs off, his IP is assigned to a different person. So if you block the IP for longer than a few hours, you are probably stopping legit editors.
- If you have any questions, let me know. I'm not an expert either. Just knowing the difference between the 3 types will help you out alot as a new admin. I mean, blocking an IP that might be dynamic or shared for 1 week could literally be blocking 40-50 users (or more) from editing. We can always block longer later. --Woohookitty(meow) 08:54, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I wonder if you'd care to let me know why you decided that this course of action was appropriate.

- Hello Ian, I deleted it because Blue520 (talk · contribs) proposed for it to be deleted via {{prod}} template for the stated reason "Notability, fails to show or assert verified notability to the levels outlined by WP:MUSIC." I'm guessing the main problem was that they didn't explain that the group had done international tours/ released CDs or did well in the charts, which are a general criteria for the inclusion of music groups on wikipedia.Blnguyen | rant-line 00:13, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Space Trek
[edit]I'm wondering how those lists qualify as empty?
As the criterion put it, "It is a very short article providing little or no context (CSD A1)". Since there isn't even an article called Space Trek, what are these supposed to be referring to? My guess is WP:NSFT, but even if real there's literally no context there. --Calton | Talk 01:46, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Dear admin, can you please keep an eye on this guy who added links to his messageboard in many articles. I left a message in his talk page but he hasn't stopped yet. I am going off for lunch and won't be around for the next couple of hours. Tintin (talk) 08:08, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Current Events
[edit]Actually, the tag reads that the article contains a current event, not that the article itself is. But you raise a good point, so I deleted it. --Milton 08:13, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
This user is complaining about your block and says that she has emailed you regarding it and you refuse to discuss it. Is that true? The Uninvited Co., Inc. 21:17, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
This user has emailed me with an apology for past behaviour. (Look on her talk page for a copy). The apology seems sincere so I assumed good faith and unblocked. I will block again at the first sign of funny business but I am hoping that I will not need to and Pat will become a productive user. Forgive and forget. [edit]Alright, I salvaged some of the JavaScript which I can use, such as giving quick warnings to vandals and getting extra tabs and links. I left out the rest. Thanks for that. I don't have the Nehru-Gandhi family pages on my watchlist, I'll put them on now... Nobleeagle (Talk) 00:52, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

AIV
[edit]When you cleared WP:AIV did you notice the vandal I left there? It was so odd, I didn't quite know where to put it... ViridaeTalk 05:51, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ok just wondering. ViridaeTalk 06:00, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
You deleted this man's biographical article. Notwithstanding that he is a prominent Conservative Party (UK) figure on the Right of the party, a past chairman of the Conservative Monday Club, and that he is one of England's leading Law Lecturers/experts, is it possible for you to say why he has been deleted? For instance, could we know (1) who proposed the deletion and (2) how it can be contested. Thanks. 86.139.185.202 11:21, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- It was proposed for deletion via the {{prod}} mechanism by User:HOTR on the grounds"Non-notable vanity? bio of a minor lawyer and political figure, never elected to public office and whose only possibly notable position was held in the 1970s (editor of a club magazine)." As this was not contested, or you forgot to, you may simply recreate the article and see what happens.Blnguyen | rant-line 01:21, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
I too am interested as HOTR appears to be 'chasing' as many articles on Tory right-wingers as he can find and deleting them. Swerling was very notable (there are umpteen newspaper references to him), he was a Consultant to a major firm of City of London solicitors, and one of the country's leading Law experts. He was also Chairman of the Conservative Monday Club. So HOTR's reasons are obviously biased. I had not looked at the article for some time and when I came back to view it, it was gone. How can one "recreate" it? Can one see the original article in an archive somewhere? It seems wrong to ask people to research the article all over again. Where, for instance, will we locate photos? Is there somewhere to appeal for restoration? Hope you can advise. 213.122.47.42 15:09, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- If you start an account, and get back to me, I can send you the deleted contents. You can restart the article, as there has not been an Community debate about it, but rather only that nobody seemed to care if it was removed or not.Blnguyen | rant-line 02:40, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks

Ruffus, Ruffus (Estonian band) and copyvios
[edit]Sorry to keep pestering you, but since you're an admin and attached to the Wikiproject, I thought you'd be the most logical first port of call here.
The article Ruffus seems to have gone through a series of different incarnations - occasionally being about the Estonian performers of "Eighties Coming Back" in '03 and occasionally about an Irish three-piece. The Irish version tends not to be Wikified, and when not Wikified it was flagged as a copyvio (it was then written up better, before going back to the original text).
Basically, the issue seems to be that the Irish band is far from notable (particularly as currently written up - the link to the Dutch 'pedia is to the Estonian ESC entrants) and the copyvio issue surrounds their entry as well. My gut feeling is that the Estonians should go under "Ruffus" with the Irishmen (re-written) at "Ruffus (Irish band)" at which point the notability issue can be duked out elsewhere. I'll go and make the relevant changes, but I just thought I should let someone know what I'm planning since the articles seem to have had issues with them. BigHaz 12:08, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
PS: Of course, joke's on me since I can't make the Estonians return to their rightful place. I'll do it manually.
Joke's still on me, the wretched talk pages don't seem to have moved properly (I clicked the relevant boxes, so I think I'll just leave it alone now).
