Explaining
[edit]I patrolled your page. I went through the enormously-backlogged list of newly-created pages and confirmed that your page was okay: not spam, not an attack page, not a copyright violation, not any of the other reasons for which I would delete someone's page without asking. Then I clicked "patrolled" to remove it from the list of "pages that have not yet been patrolled", and moved on to the next entry. That's all. DS (talk) 00:47, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Big Debate South Africa has been reverted.
Your edit here to Big Debate South Africa was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.facebook.com/BigDebateSouthAfrica/) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Hello, BroaddaylightSA. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. JNW (talk) 22:37, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion
[edit]This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident in which you may be involved. Thank you. JNW (talk) 23:22, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
Username and Conflict of Interest
[edit]I have read very carefully and considered very carefully the feedback given to me about the potential conflict of interest in my contributions on Wikipedia. I want to make clear that I have not been paid to edit anything on Wikipedia, and the company I work with is a non-profit entity. However it is fair to raise this issue with me as I am very close to the subject matter of the pages I created and edited. Hence I have done everything I can to edit my contributions very very carefully, stating fairly all sides of the subject matter. I note that my contributions have been referred to WikiProject South Africa, which is great - I look forward to seeing the input from the participants in that group.
Despite my closeness to the subject, I think that my contributions to date are balanced and conform to Wikipedia editorial guidelines.
From this point onwards I will refrain from directly editing this content. Instead I will raise any issues I have on the talk page, as advised.
I will also apply for a name change, since my current wikipedia username is too close to the name of an entity on wikipedia.
This has been a learning curve and I appreciate all the feedback!

- Much appreciated. It's possible that both you and your television show meet the notability guidelines. What doesn't sit well here is that immediately after receiving the above warnings re: username and conflict of interest, you proceeded to write your autobiography. Another guideline to check out is WP:SPA, which refers to editors using Wikipedia for one purpose only, to promote themselves and their interests. JNW (talk) 23:32, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
- OK understood. Actually I did the biographical page as the other editor pointed out the red links, so I was trying to solve that. Again I tried to keep it as short and neutral as I could. But from now onwards I will be very careful about this and I wont directly edit either page, assuming they remain in wikipedia. Really appreciate your feedback. I dont know if I should post anything on the Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard about this. Perhaps I'll just post my original para, acknowledging that I wont continue to edit these pages. Thanks again!
- I'd encourage you to post at the noticeboard. If an administrator should block this account as an unacceptable username, it will likely be for that reason only, and would not prevent you from editing or engaging in discussion under a new account. Still, COI and promotional concerns would remain relevant, no matter the name of the account. JNW (talk) 23:46, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks. I just noticed a typo on my page Ben_Cashdan. Where it says "Responding to public pressure the documentary was shown by the SABC in 2001" the date is incorrect. As per the citation, the line should read "Responding to public pressure the documentary was shown by the SABC in 2007". Since I have promised not to edit these pages myself, could you do this edit for me? Incidentally how do I reach the talk page for a wikipedia page, so I can suggest edits if necessary in the future? Thanks again!
