Neglected diseases
Anti-parasitic drugs being distributed in Côte d'Ivoire
What's a Neglected Disease?, ScienceSource video

To grasp the nettle, there are rare diseases, there are tropical diseases and then there are "neglected diseases". Evidently a rare enough disease is likely to be neglected, but neglected disease these days means a disease not rare, but tropical, and most often infectious or parasitic. Rare diseases as a group are dominated, in contrast, by genetic diseases.

A major aspect of neglect is found in tracking drug discovery. Orphan drugs are those developed to treat rare diseases (rare enough not to have market-driven research), but there is some overlap in practice with the WHO's neglected diseases, where snakebite, a "neglected public health issue", is on the list.

From an encyclopedic point of view, lack of research also may mean lack of high-quality references: the core medical literature differs from primary research, since it operates by aggregating trials. This bibliographic deficit clearly hinders Wikipedia's mission. The ScienceSource project is currently addressing this issue, on Wikidata. Its Wikidata focus list at WD:SSFL is trying to ensure that neglect does not turn into bias in its selection of science papers.

I have removed the level-2 heading / Convicted / as I do not see that supported in any source. Elaborate, please. Sam Sailor 01:29, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

@Sam Sailor: the heading I used was actually "Conviction", but in any case you are quite right. I was conflating a plea of guilt with a finding of guilt. The former happened in Patten's case, but the latter, as far as I know, did not. I am grateful for your careful review of the article, and for your courtesy in leaving this message. Thanks, Zazpot (talk) 01:36, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello! I noticed you added the {{linkrot}} template to Susan Mary Alsop‎‎. You might be interested in adding ReFill to your bookmarks: by just copying and pasting the article's name, in a few clicks the link rot can be fixed and references improved. It's not always perfect, but often preferable to unsightly maintenance templates. Cheers, --Animalparty! (talk) 23:53, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi. I've moved your article to draft space because it does not meet the standard required for inclusion in the encyclopedia, for the following reasons:

  1. The language is confusing and there is not enough context to enable a lay person to understand what SigSpoof is.
  2. The article contains no claim of notability.
  3. Categories have not been added.

Please work on the article in draft to bring it up to standard before submitting for review. Deb (talk) 18:23, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Deb, while I appreciate the notification, I feel your draftification of that article was unfortunate. The draftification does not seem to have followed WP:DRAFTIFY, and it also explicitly lacked consensus. Additionally, the article's subject meets WP:GNG and therefore merits an article. As such, I have restored the article. Zazpot (talk) 20:13, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
Glad to see that, as a result of the draftification and my advice to you, you have made most of the improvements necessary to allow the article to be included. Perhaps you could now add appropriate categories. Being the expert you are on Wikipedia procedure, you will no doubt understand how important that is. Deb (talk) 08:22, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
@Deb: it did not have anything to do with you. Evidently you thought you were being helpful, but as I explained on your talk page, I did not find your approach constructive or considerate. I would be grateful if you would avoid interactions with me on Wikipedia in future, unless you approach them in a manner that upholds all five pillars. Zazpot (talk) 08:42, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Please stop using jargon on pages like SigSpoof. You may think this makes you look clever, but your apparent inability to express yourself in simple English isn't helping anybody. If "spoof" is such a basic word, why does it have a disambiguation page as long as my arm? Deb (talk) 18:51, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

IMO, "spoof", as used in SigSpoof, is not jargon. In any case, I had already addressed that concern in this edit summary and this edit, so your comment above seems to be somewhat excessive.
As for the disambiguation page at Spoof, I am not responsible for it, nor do I entirely agree with its contents or organisation, so asking me to explain its existence or size (why does it have a disambiguation page as long as my arm?) is hardly appropriate. Also, I am unaware of any reliable correlation between the existence of a disambiguation page for a word, and the matter or whether a word is jargon. For example, "drill" is not jargon, in most contexts I am familiar with, but it has a lengthy disambiguation page nonetheless. Zazpot (talk) 19:35, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
