WSST-TV, virtual and UHFdigital channel 51, is a Youtoo America-affiliated television station located in Cordele, Georgia, United States. The station is locally owned by Sunbelt-South Communications, Ltd. WSST-TV maintains studio facilities located on 7th Street and 11th Avenue in downtown Cordele, and its transmitter is located in rural southwestern Crisp County.
The station's digital signal extends only 50 miles (80 km) from Cordele, however the station is carried on many cable providers in the region, including in Albany and Perry.
WSST-TV's digital transmitter facilities had operated at low power for several years, due to Sunbelt-South Telecommunications, Ltd. being involved in bankruptcy proceedings.[needs update][2] The station discontinued regular programming on its analog signal, over UHF channel 51, on April 15, 2009, less than two months before the official date in which full-power television stations in the United States transitioned from analog to digital broadcasts under federal mandate. The station's digital signal remained on its pre-transition UHF channel 55 to its former UHF analog channel 51.[3][4]
WSST produces South Georgia Sunrise a 2½ hour morning news and talk program, airing weekdays at 4:00 a.m. and a half-hour late afternoon newscast at 4:00 p.m. The station also produces Midday Magazine, an hour-long talk and lifestyle program that airs weekdays at 10:00 a.m.
