Unused: essentially redundant as can be replaced by wikitext. Identical apart from the flag to previously deleted Template:HonHeadsCommonwealth. DrKay (talk) 14:00, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

This is not even a well written template and it is unused. I think it should be speedy deleted in my opinion. Pkbwcgs (talk) 09:04, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

- Template:Main world cups (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Bogus categorization based on coincidental name similarity. This is just a random subset of all the world championships in all sports, just the ones that happen to have "Cup" in their names. There is no logical connection between these topics other than them begin sport-related. In theory, a larger navbox could be developed for all world championships, but it would be unwieldy and would suffer the same problem of there being no intrinsic relationship between, e.g. the Snooker World Championship, the FIFA World Cup, and the ICC World Twenty20. Neither that theoretical template nor the one nominated here serve a real navigation purpose; that is already served by the sport-specific navigation boxes. We already have Category:World championships, subdivided into 118 subcategories (so far), mostly by sport. PS: The stub World cup competition is slated for merging with World championship for essentially the same reason (artificial WP:POVFORK based on coincidence of naming); merge discussion is at Talk:World championship. PS: "Main" in the title of this template is a WP:POV assertion; various sports with world championships with "World Cup" names are not listed in the template, so the inclusion criteria appear to be completely arbitrary. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ< 04:24, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
- Strong keep. In many sports, World Cup (usually competed with more races of a season), and world championship (usually a single event) are different. Some examples in the following table. If there is the World Championships template, there is reason for the Word Cups template.

- And in other sports that's not the case. Some sports have multiple world championships (or cups or whatever), put on by different organizations. They're all the same general class of thing: top-tier, world-level competitions. All you're doing is highlighting how artificial the categorization is: now it's some sports with world cups that have multiple days of competition a different points in the season. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ< 03:40, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- Strong keep per above to allow navigation across a common defining characteristic. Template {{Main world cups}} covers this topic and differentiates between world cups for teams and individual. It would be possible to have corresponding categories. See the correct description made in Category:World cups: In this category, only the world cups that are held throughout the season (such as FIS Alpine Ski World Cup), sports that also dispute a world championship in one event. While the world cups that are also world championships (such as FIFA World Cup) should not be included. 95.133.219.133 (talk) 10:38, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
- Keep - Most sports have world cup seasons which are the best overall winner for that specific sport for that specific seasons. This includes many motorsports champions, most notable NASCAR Monster Energy Series. They are called World Cup because it is the highest level of their specific sports. The confusion is with other cups that come in specific time periods like FIFA World Cup as example. Chris (talk) 20:40, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
- Not true. Some sports have that format, many do not, many have no world cup at all. None of the reasoning above gets around the fact that you're trying to navigate between totally unrelated sports, leagues, and specific events, by what their naming pattern happens to be, and doing so in a confusing way that only include a narrow subset of "world cups" that happen to match the exact format you want to focus on. That's triple failure as a navbox. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ< 03:40, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
