Template:Sarawak state election, 1969[edit]

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the template(s) or module(s) below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the template's talk page or in a deletion review).

The result of the discussion was delete. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:36, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

1969 and 1974 should be substituted on the election mainspace and section transcluded on the state elections in Malaysia article for the respective year. 2006, 2011, and 2021 are single-use and should be substituted where used. The 2021 template is for an election happening the following year and it's too early for a template to be created for it. But will still have likely resulted in a similar Tfd as this one if it were to be kept following the election. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 23:02, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. If a consensus develops that the main template is too large or otherwise insufficient and it should have the -W data split into its own template, there is no prejudice against recreation or REFUND. Primefac (talk) 16:01, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

template is now a subset of the Template:Australian soccer updater template, store all of the data there for each season, rather than the need for having a second one split by gender. Accidently did this via WP:PROD before seeing that there is guidance to only use on articles. Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:03, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I just think it's more easier when updating than doing it in one template as you' would constantly be looking through long lists to find something. English football articles have done this as well, so I did the same action as them while creating these templates. FastCube (talk) 09:58, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is a long list, but the single set of data for female competitions is the W-League, and it is right near the top next to the A-League. This hierarchy matches the levels of the unofficial football pyramid, and currently none of the other club articles list other than the highest men's information in their infoboxes. I also disagree with your term 'constantly'. This updater template is specifically designed to be edited for each league only once at the end of each season. Matilda Maniac (talk) 10:10, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hard really to comment on this TfD as there is no documentation whatsoever at Template:Australian soccer updater or Template:Australian soccer updater-W. But in general, at more than 1000 lines long, that data should really be in a module which is much easier to read than in a template. Gonnym (talk) 18:44, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete There's already a template for this. This one is redudant. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 21:56, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was no consensus , with the exception of the 2021 template, which as mentioned is a duplicate of a better-formatted and more-consistently-named template. Primefac (talk) 16:06, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

1997 to 2019 are single-use and should be substituted on the respective election mainspace. 2021 is unused and redudant as another template has been created for the same purpose but for more information to be included. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 19:46, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • All except 2021 are in regular use. Mention this on the appropriate Talk pages to get a proper response from the editors. At this point I've seen a lot of WP: policies misapplied, so please cite the operative policy supporting your deletion request. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 19:54, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You are right about the 1997 to 2019 being used somewhere, however, single-use templates don't make good use of template space. In fact, Canadian election result templates have been nominated in the past for the same single-use issue they present. So the rational is based on those. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 20:40, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm working on transferring the candidate results templates data to the main articles. How do I check that they're only used by one article? G. Timothy Walton (talk) 21:23, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Check the link where it says transclusion right above from the list. It will only show links to article(s). --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 21:36, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Subst and delete Unnecessary single-use templates. Number 57 08:32, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep OR move to subpage of relevant mainspace articles (the second merely for convenience, as moving templates used on a single page to sub-pages is not entirely a bad idea) Valid single-use to move large table out of the main article for ease of maintenance and for code readability. As far as I can see, merely being a "single-use template" is not a valid WP:TFD#REASONS. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 03:50, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
merely being a "single-use template" is not a valid WP:TFD#REASONS You would be looking for TFD#REASONS item 1, see Wikipedia:Template namespace#Guidelines item 1, as well as the last item in the same section. Izno (talk) 22:22, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The first item in the guidelines does not seem to apply at all, since this is not used to hide article text from the reader, and does not make it harder to edit (in fact, makes it far easier to maintain consistent format, among others). This is also marked as "normally" (which does again speak that this, like nearly every single WP policy/guideline/whatever, is not an absolute, and that there are valid reasons to make a more complex analysis here - so I stand by my "merely being single-use is not a valid reason": there are plenty of instances where a single-use template or sub-page is useful). And this entirely ignoring the multiple use subpages. So the template does not violate any TFD#REASONS, and so the nomination has no merit, and should have been speedy kept. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 03:58, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per RandomCanadian - additionally, results for various ridings are stored in subpages, so having something like this at the basename makes sense. Elli (talk | contribs) 04:05, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Subst and delete per nom and N57. --Izno (talk) 22:24, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep all - the template itself is generally only used on one page, but these are really useful as placeholders for the district subpages, which are more widely used. Each is individually used at least twice: on the district page and on the elected candidate's bio, and also on the bios of any other notable candidates. While each individual template is only used two or three times, they also form a system of consistent presentation across thousands of Canadian political articles and biographies which would be quite difficult to maintain if each article had to be updated individually. 2021 was largely unused because that election occurred two days ago; there is a drive on to populate that space, which will be followed by a drive to update the 2015 and 2019 spaces since we discovered recently that inconsistent and unofficial results are still being hosted on many pages related to those two elections, largely because these templates were not deployed consistently. You can find several threads about this at WT:CANADA. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 11:28, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Except delete Template:2021 Canadian federal election. It duplicates the functionality of Template:Canadian federal election, 2021, and the other template is in the standard format and hosts the district subpages. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 11:47, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep all per Ivanvector. The subpages of these templates— results for individual ridings— are extremely useful. They may only be used on a handful of pages (the riding itself, and however many candidates have their own article), but having a template that can be transcluded onto other pages ensures consistency across them; deleting the template and hardcoding the results onto the individual pages means any change to the template would have to be done at multiple places, and they can easily fall out of sync that way. Maintaining these templates is an easy and effective solution. — Kawnhr (talk) 16:04, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

CPLANAS1985, you could move it to a subpage of yours, but what would be the ultimate goal for a template like this? Is it just to test the waters or would it have a larger purpose? Because if it's for testing, then at some point you could request deletion if there's no need for having this around for any longer. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 20:05, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
