Some Wikipedia lists and articles relating to cities, villages, townships, and CDPs in Michigan.

There may be items in Category:Michigan geography stubs that have not been further categorized (usually into Category:Unincorporated communities in Michigan).

At the least Wikipedia:U.S._cities_without_articles#Michigan and List of cities, villages, and townships in Michigan should get cleaned up and made more consistent. There are countless unincorporated communities that have the same name as their township and should probably be made into a redirect (with a note in the township article). At present, most stubby articles on unincorporated communities can be merged into their township articles.

Somewhat related to cleaning up place articles, is to cleanup the corresponding list sections of the counties containing the places. They are in various stages of inconsistency.

Standardizing and updated articles

[edit]

I have recently begun editing municipality articles in Michigan, especially the infoboxes, where I have worked to create location maps for the CDPs (when applicable), villages, townships, and cities. I have also attempted to standardize the infobox settings and formats to include listings for leaders, ZIP Codes, area codes, established dates when available, official websites, and a main image (either one of my own or another one floating around WikiCommons). Essentially, basic information in a standardized and aesthetic format that doesn't overload the infobox. Many articles I have come across have outdated or incomplete information. A random example of a finished infobox would be Benton Harbor (city), Higgins Township (civil township), Mackinaw City (dual-county village), Hubbard Lake (CDP), Paradise (unincorporated community), and Rawsonville (ghost town), where all available information is listed in a set format.

There doesn't seem to be much involvement in this subsection, but I've noticed a ton of municipality articles (particularly the lead section and infobox) are structured differently and in need of cleanup. Along the way, I've received very rare unexplained reverts or vague comments when it comes to editing particular articles, where another user might feel I'm overstepping their own personal edits and ideas in a single article and not the rest of the state as a whole. The formats used in the above articles are what I'm attempting to use in every single article, where all information is listed in the same format.

As far as the municipality maps go, I described them in my own subpage User:Notorious4life/Pending article, mainly so I can keep track of my own formats and progress.

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, feel free to add here for consensus or on my own user page for individual comments. If I do receive any petty complaints or have to re-revert unexplained edits, I will try to draw conversation here and involve other users in this project. —Notorious4life (talk) 23:25, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
