Wikipedia:WikiProject Switzerland/Assessment

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to the assessment department of the Switzerland WikiProject! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's articles about Switzerland. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Switzerland}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Switzerland articles by quality and Category:Switzerland articles by importance, which serves as the foundation for an automatically generated worklist.

Frequently asked questions

[edit]
How can I get my article rated?
Please list it in the section for assessment requests below.
Who can assess articles?
Any member of the Switzerland WikiProject is free to add—or change—the rating of an article.
What if I don't agree with a rating?
You can list it in the section for assessment requests below, and someone will take a look at it. Alternately, you can ask any member of the project to rate the article again.
Aren't the ratings subjective?
Yes, they are, but it's the best system we've been able to devise; if you have a better idea, please don't hesitate to let us know!

If you have any other questions not listed here, please feel free to ask them on the discussion page for this department.

Instructions

[edit]

An article's assessment is generated from the class and importance parameters in the {{WikiProject Switzerland}} project banner on its talk page:

{{WikiProject Switzerland
|class=
|importance=
|attention=
|collaboration-candidate=
|past-collaboration=
|peer-review=
|old-peer-review=
|needs-infobox=
}}

The following values may be used for the class parameter:

Articles for which a valid class is not provided are listed in Category:Unassessed Switzerland articles. The class should be assigned according to the quality scale below.

Importance scale

[edit]

The criteria used for rating article importance are not meant to be an absolute or canonical view of how significant the topic is. Rather, they attempt to gauge the probability of the average reader of Wikipedia needing to look up the topic (and thus the immediate need to have a suitably well-written article on it). Thus, subjects with greater popular notability may be rated higher than topics which are arguably more "important" but which are of interest primarily to students of Switzerland.

Note that general notability need not be from the perspective of editor demographics; generally notable topics should be rated similarly regardless of the country or region in which they hold said notability. Thus, topics which may seem obscure to several audiences—but which are of high notability in other places—should still be highly rated.

Status Template Meaning of Status
Top {{Top-Class}} This article is of the utmost importance to this project, as it forms the basis of all information.
High {{High-Class}} This article is fairly important to this project, as it covers a general area of knowledge.
Mid {{Mid-Class}} This article is relatively important to this project, as it fills in some more specific knowledge of certain areas.
Low {{Low-Class}} This article is of little importance to this project, but it covers a highly specific area of knowledge or an obscure piece of trivia.
None None This article is of unknown importance to this project. It remains to be analyzed.

We are currently discussing which articles should be counted as being of Top-importance at Wikipedia:WikiProject Switzerland/Assessment/Top-importance articles.

Importance assessment

[edit]

An article's importance assessment is generated from the importance parameter in the {{WikiProject Switzerland}} project banner on its talk page:

{{WikiProject Switzerland| ... | importance=??? | ...}}
Top
High
Mid
Low
???

The following values may be used for importance assessments:

If you have made significant changes to an article and would like an outside opinion on a new rating for it, please feel free to list it below.

  1. Daig (Switzerland) The article has been significantly expanded and is IMHO now more in-depth than the one in the german WP that it was initially based on. -- HisredrighthandTally-ho! 09:50, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Swiss Market Index Would it be possible to reassess the SMI article, please? It has been expanded since its last assessment as Start-Class a few years ago. Thank you! Concisepleonasm (talk)
  3. John Calvin: Completely rewrote the article. Looking for reassessment of the importance rating (currently Mid-rating). He must be at least equally important to Switzerland than say, modern politicans who have High-ratings. --RelHistBuff (talk) 00:02, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, for sure. Updated. Schutz (talk) 09:35, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Aarau: I worked this up from essentially a stub by translating information from the (FA-level) German article. I think it's a B, but I thought someone who didn't write it should grade it. KLabe 01:40, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, agree with that. Schutz 16:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Carnival of Basel partly based on german article. --Goonies (Tell me!) 08:20, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Would say B as well. Schutz 16:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Army Reconnaissance Detachment: Created it and added much info on it. Ominae (talk) 04:30, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Brugg: Translated almost all of the (FA-level) German article into English last summer.--Ami in CH (talk) 01:04, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Should I just review it myself? I mean, it is obviously not a stub any more. I've been waiting, and have seen quite a few articles reassessed since that time.--Ami in CH (talk) 15:44, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Updated to B. Needs more work. Ominae (talk) 06:43, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Einsatzgruppe TIGRIS – Updated. Needs assessment. Ominae (talk) 06:43, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am doing a school report on switzerland. The Modern history of Switzerland is in no way a start-class. Reassess it for the Stub-class level. 76.126.5.5 (talk) 00:54, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I expanded Swiss order of precedence, it can probably be rated Start or C-class. Novarupta (talk) 13:36, 9 July 2016 (UTC) Updated it myself Novarupta (talk) 14:29, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Martin Schmid seems better than stub to me. bamse (talk) 21:11, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Léman Express has been rewritten with new content from the French article, merging with pre-Léman Express train articles, and generally new content. Certainly not a stub anymore, and perhaps not a low importance now that it's a bigger feature of life in the Romandie? Tschuy (talk) 04:29, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
