Last Thursday was the bi-centennial of the Battle of New Orleans. It seems like that was a big event to miss. Terry Thorgaard (talk) 16:22, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He took office on January 8, 1978, he wasn't elected on this date as it currently states. posty (talk) 21:05, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Correction/rewriting need

[edit]

Previously posted on Wikipedia:Main_Page/Errors but in wrong section and Correction/rewriting still need. Hope someone will see this and fix.

  • 1972 – Following the country's defeat by India in the previous year's war, new Pakistani president Zulfikar Ali Bhutto released Bangladeshi politician Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (pictured) from prison in response to international pressure. - Some part of this line is misleading. consider following three things:
1) The independence of Bangladesh was declared on 26 March 1971 at the onset of the Bangladesh Liberation War by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. After that at midnight on 26 March 1971, Sheikh Mujib was arrested and taken to West Pakistan after midnight (Proclamation of Bangladeshi Independence, Sheikh_Mujibur_Rahman#Establishment_of_Bangladesh, Bangladesh_Liberation_War#Declaration_of_independence)
2) Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 confrontation between India and Pakistan that occurred during the liberation war in East Pakistan from 3 December 1971 to the fall of Dacca (Dhaka) on 16 December 1971.
3) Both Bangladesh Liberation War and Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 ended with Pakistani Instrument of Surrender.
But from this DYK, i getting this idea that there was a war in 1971 (Indo-Pakistani War of 1971) and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was arrested in that war, and after india won that war, he was released from prison in response to international pressure. This is misleading somewhat. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was arrested because of Bangladesh Liberation War, not because of Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. It's true india won Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 (which started 3 December 1971) but we are ignoring Bangladesh Liberation War (which started 26 March 1971) for which Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was arrested where Bangladesh won.
I am requesting to rewrite this part: "Following the country's defeat by India in the previous year's war". Please don't mix Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 & Bangladesh Liberation War as same war. My suggestion is rewrite this part as "Following the country's defeat by Bangladesh in [[Pakistani Instrument of Surrender|the previous year's war]]" or "Following the country's defeat in [[Pakistani Instrument of Surrender|the previous year's war]]". --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 17:52, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
