T'ai chi ch'uan GA status
I've started a push to get T'ai chi ch'uan to GA status - I think it is close. To start with I have submitted it to peer review and request help and advice. More complete referencing would be nice (some sections are still weak) but if other issues preventing GA could be identified that would be great. Although the article as improved since then there have been two GA failures in 2006 and 2007, respectively.Peter Rehse (talk) 10:12, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
Infobox martial artist update
The parameter "native_name" has been added to Template:Infobox martial artist. The "native_name" allows the addition of the martial artists' names in hanzi, kanji or whatever other characters not common to the English alphabet, to the infobox. ~ InferKNOX (talk) 14:29, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Hello! Here's an old Afc submission that is about to be deleted as a stale draft. Is this a notable person, and should the article be saved? —Anne Delong (talk) 21:46, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
- The subject has only one top tier fight and would most likely be deleted under WP:MMANOT. The person is non-notable and should be deleted.Peter Rehse (talk) 21:50, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you. It's gone. —Anne Delong (talk) 14:33, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
Bloody elbow.com is it reliable?
Is blackbeltmag.com and Bloody elbow.com considered reliable as I have used them as sources for kicking techniques. Dwanyewest (talk) 13:05, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- I think that whether or not those sources are reliable depends on what you're referencing. Black Belt has sections that anyone can submit to without them doing any fact checking, but a feature article on someone does add credibility. Bloody elbow is fine for MMA facts like results and scheduled bouts, but it's hard to think of it as a bastion of journalistic standards when one of the editors, for example, is called "Zombie Prophet." In terms of your question about kicking techniques, I would say the reliability rests on the person describing the techniques, not the publication. For example, Bill Wallace talking about kicking techniques is good, regardless of what the publication is. Papaursa (talk) 05:44, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
Dear martial arts fans: The above competitor didn't pass notability last year, and now hte article is about to be deleted. Has anything changed, or should let this article fade away? —Anne Delong (talk) 00:23, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello fight fans - this old Afc submission will soon be deleted as a stale draft. Is this a notable fighter, and is the article with keeping? —Anne Delong (talk) 02:28, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- Again - let it fade away. Would not meet WP:MMANOT.Peter Rehse (talk) 09:54, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
This template has been nominated for deletion, for including external links, having no only one blue link (to Wikipedia articles) and general noncompliance of navbox guidelines. If someone here would like to remake the template, or just has an opinion, please join the discussion at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2014 February 10#Template:Goju Ryu. Thanks. —PC-XT+
05:57, 11 February 2014 (UTC) EDIT: Actually, I see it does have one blue link, not including the title. —PC-XT+

- I suggested a delete - I also put the Judo kata template for deletion (Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2014 February 7#Judo Kata)since it is not used and is part of the larger Judo template which is used.Peter Rehse (talk) 10:27, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

Dear martial arts experts: Once more I have found an old Afc submission that should be checked before being deleted as a stale draft. I appreciate the advice that the members of this project have provided so far. Can you tell me if this is a notable person, or should the article be let go? —Anne Delong (talk) 19:02, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Farshid Haidari. Nothing has changed.Peter Rehse (talk) 19:16, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello martial arts enthusiasts! This old Afc submission will soon be deleted as a stale draft. Is this a notable subject, and should the article be saved? —Anne Delong (talk) 12:23, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for your note. The subject is certainly notable (in my view) and the draft could form the basis of an article later on. (I am not volunteering in this case just now, due to limited time available; just noting an opinion.) Thanks. Janggeom (talk) 14:41, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- The article already exists as Kim Bok Man.Peter Rehse (talk) 16:44, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- Good catch! It looks as though the editor also discovered this and began improving the mainspace article. I have nominated the draft for deletion. —Anne Delong (talk) 18:38, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- Yes - I ended up removing some duplication. Cheers.Peter Rehse (talk) 21:01, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Please Review
Wa Shin Ryu Jujutsu Would someone take a look at this article and review its notability? Thanks! The Ukulele Dude - Aggie80 (talk) 14:55, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- Comments already on the page concur - there is no indication of notability and the origin and background is questionable to say the least. The origins are disingenuous. Peter Rehse (talk) 16:35, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you, Peter! Being a Karateka, I wasn't sure on the this side of things and wanted other eyes on it.The Ukulele Dude - Aggie80 (talk) 00:10, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Hello again! Here's another old draft that will soon be deleted. It needs work, but is it a notable topic? —Anne Delong (talk) 18:41, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- On first read it looks notable but there is little supporting evidence and when you look at Original masters of taekwondo and List of taekwondo grandmasters neither the school or the founder are even mentioned. These are well developed articles so one does wonder.Peter Rehse (talk) 19:04, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Invitation for opinion
Hi. I'm working on a Qigong article, which is related to Martial Arts. I'd like to invite you to weigh in on several wording alternatives to one of the statements in the introductory area. Please review Talk:Qigong#Summary of Options and Place for Opinions on Introductory statement
Thank you CJ (talk) 13:54, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
I saw the Wing Tsun article and most of it is information that would be relevant to all Wing Chun - a lot of transclusion. There was a brief move for a merge in 2007 that descended into accusations of vandalism almost immediately so I took it to Talk first but I want to make sure that interested parties can chime in. So, yeah, I'm suggesting merging any relevant content to the sub-style into the overall style article and turning Wing Tsun into a redirect for Wing Chun. There's no need for Leung Ting's lineage to have an entire page. Simonm223 (talk) 15:58, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
- I would agree to a merge but since there are at least two merge discussions on the talk page I would archive the talk page and tag the articles as a merge discussion and start the discussion fresh.Peter Rehse (talk) 16:53, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
Keysi Fighting Method
Developed in Spain in the 1970's by Justo Dieguez, Keysi(relatively called) is considered to be "born" on the streets and over time matured into a fighting discipline. Though very similar to Krav Maga, Keysi has more focus on elbow strikes, headbutts, takedowns and (uncommonly) jabs and hooks whereas the israeli fighting style, makes use of all the body parts including kicking and knee strikes. The most unorthodox aspect of Keysi is the use of close-quarters combat(preferably at a distance where an elbow strike can be executed) though kicking is not preferable because it would require distance, it is considered effective to someone on the ground towards a standing attacker.
Keysi has been choreographed in the Dark Knight series,Jack Reacher and Mission Impossible 3. Thus not only becoming popular in Hollywood but in other parts of the world.
Keysi has also been known to be effective against multiple attackers which focuses on knocking them out as fast as possible as mentioned by Christian Bale, which as been displayed numerous times in the Dark Knight series often with the fight scenes ending in a matter of several seconds. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.95.251.241 (talk) 17:17, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- Not sure what this post is for. Keysi already redirects to Batman Begins because of the decision at the AfD of its standalone article. Papaursa (talk) 20:24, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
This is to report that as of right now, the T'ai chi ch'uan lineage tree template is completely screwed up, affecting all the articles that refer to it. Bruno talk 21:02, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- Ok, to those who thought my report was odd... I discovered the template is not screwed up if you use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. It renders incorrectly with Google Chrome. Some effort should be made to include Chrome in the mix.Bruno talk 17:34, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- There was one primary editor for this template (please see history). If you drop him a line I am sure he will make an effort.Peter Rehse (talk) 17:40, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
Hello, martial arts experts. The above abandoned Afc submission will soon be deleted as a stale draft. Is this a notable person, and should the article be kept and improved instead? —Anne Delong (talk) 05:25, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
- In its present form if it was put into article space I would submit it to AfD right away. I really don't know enough of the history of that particular area of martial arts but all the red flags are there with regard to Hall of Fames and fighting Aikido champions. My advice would to let this one die.Peter Rehse (talk) 10:05, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
- I agree with Peter--the article is stale and fails to show he meets WP:GNG or WP:MANOTE. Papaursa (talk) 20:24, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking time to look this over. I will let it fade away. —Anne Delong (talk) 01:32, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

A new editor has created an article on Jon Mamoru Takagi and it has been put up for AfD (although not by me). The author seems quite passionate about his topic, but I don't think the sources are there to meet WP:GNG and I have stated that in the AfD discussion. However, others may disagree. If anyone has independent sources that would support notability, I know the author would appreciate the help. Papaursa (talk) 03:59, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
Huan Shiying Kune Do
Hello WikiProject! Is anyone familiar with Huan Shiying Kune Do? The article could use some help as it is in danger of being deleted. The main contributor doesn't appear too Wikisavvy. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:00, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello again, martial arts experts. Is this a notable topic, and should this old Afc submission be kept and improved instead of being deleted as a stale draft? —Anne Delong (talk) 23:34, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- Narai simply means to learn and it seems to me pretty obscure as a specific martial arts term. In fact theory which it is supposed to mean in the article generally uses different words. The article as it stands now is convoluted and difficult to follow and I don't recall it even being mentioned in the referenced Legacies of the Sword (it is not in the extensive glossary). Please wait for a few more opinions but I think unless someone wants to make the article more sensible directly it should be deleted.Peter Rehse (talk) 09:38, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, Peter Rehse. I will leave it be, and as long as no one edits it, it should disappear in month or so. —Anne Delong (talk) 12:01, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- This is mostly a dictionary definition for a very rarely used term. The content is not made up but more or less accurate, even if written in somewhat odd style. Maybe few sentences of this could be incorporated into some other koryū article? The first reference to Friday, K. (1997). Legacies of the Sword. (p. 16). University of Hawai'i Press has error in page number. Correct is (p. 103), not 16. The quoted "Tokugawa pundit" (Friday uses words "late Tokugawa period commentator") is Fujiwara Yoshinobu: Menhyōhō no ki, quoted in Nakabayashi Shinji "Kenjutsu Keiko no ikkōsatsu" p. 165, in Budō ronkō, 160-168. Ibaraki, Japan: Nakabayashi Shinji sensei isakushū kangyōkai (1988) according to Friday's extensive bibliography. jni (delete)...just not interested 19:40, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for finding the Friday content - seeing it in that context I don't think it is notable enough for its own article.Peter Rehse (talk) 19:55, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
Martial arts by country of origin
I'm looking for opinion about deleting Template talk:Martial arts by country of origin before actually submitting it. Not sure my outrage is logical or just based on damm that is ugly. Please comment on the template talk page.Peter Rehse (talk) 09:35, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
No more comments - I am going to put it up for deletion and then once accepted we can start fresh with an expandable section in the martial arts template.Peter Rehse (talk) 16:56, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
Translating from Baidu Baike
Baidu Baike is the Mainland Chinese encylopedia site for baidu.com which is a search engine. It has a lot of information about various Martial Arts. I can read them quite well, and can translate them essentially verbatim to put them here in wikipedia. I just don't know about legal issues etc.
What are the legal issues for this, and how should i go about it assuming it is feasable. I could put the original text and translated text together on the repsective talk page or whatever. Just give me a response about what i am allowed to do, and i will work on it during my free time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bredmond812 (talk • contribs) 05:01, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
World Vovinam Federation would like to help
Hello,
I am the english content creator for the World Vovinam Federation here in Ho Chi Minh City. We would like to help advance the page in content. Our facebook page has many articles in both vietnamese and now english about the history and development of the art as well as tournament news from around the world. The articles are written in the local "sanctioned" perspective so references to past conflicts may need some historical corrections but they have little to do with the discipline itself. I have added the link to the bottom of the page. Ddanning (talk) 04:49, 22 April 2014 (UTC) Thank You — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ddanning (talk • contribs) 04:47, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- The problem is that the articles lack coverage by independent sources. Adding material from sources not directly connected to the art and its governing organizations would be appreciated. Papaursa (talk) 00:25, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
Origins of Asian martial arts Merger
There is a suggestion to merge Origins of Asian martial arts to History of martial arts which makes good sense to me on the face of it although I see lots of implementation problems. Please see the discussion.Peter Rehse (talk) 15:36, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

Dear martial arts experts: This old AfC submission will soon be deleted as a stale draft. The subject seems to have won some championships. Is this a notable martial artist, and should the page be kept and improved? —Anne Delong (talk) 04:16, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
- She seems to meet WP:KICK with the WAKO Pro and ISKA World championships but I would certainly like to see some references for that. My personal opinion is that if there is no activity article submissions like this (potentially notable or not) should be deleted.Peter Rehse (talk) 08:56, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
