Internet committee chair
[edit]Hey FW, the GEB is in desperate need of a chair for the Internet Committee. The last chair is currently on suspension and wasn't very active before that, so they're looking for a replacement ASAP. Given your energy on Wikipedia, I instantly thought of you. Would you be interested? Get ahold of Monika (movyk at thing dot net) if you think you can help out. SmashTheState (talk) 10:56, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
GetEQUAL
[edit]The problem was that the article was a direct copy and paste of the GetEQUAL website. I really couldn't say if the organisation is notable enough for an article or not. Cheers. Enter CBW, waits for audience applause, not a sausage. 04:01, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Richard Baldwin Quote
[edit]Are we sure that George Frater's quotation of Richard Baldwin is well sourced? I hope he didn't just rip it off the internet. His book doesn't show a source for that quote.C5mjohn (talk) 16:10, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
- If you do a Google book search for the quotation, i think you will find it in multiple books. Hard to imagine that a lot of folks are putting out books with a false quote, when it is such a well-known and for some, controversial quotation. It exists in books supportive of the ACLU, and in books critical of the ACLU. But beyond that, i haven't done any additional research. best wishes, Richard Myers (talk) 03:49, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

[edit]It was also a username block. The links might indeed meet WP:EL, but adding them with a username very similar to that of the website in question is not permitted. Daniel Case (talk) 02:50, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Gandydancer
[edit]Thanks for your recent excellent edits at the gandydancer article. You write very well and I really enjoyed the doppler link. I've been trying for years to find photographs; I really do want a few on the page - it adds a lot! I've tried to figure out how to do it, but it is beyond my computer abilities. Could you put this photo on the page? http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:North_Coast_Limited_1.jpg
I recently discovered the Libray of Congress and found these: http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2006676183/ http://www.loc.gov/pictures/resource/ppmsc.01851/ http://www.loc.gov/pictures/resource/fsa.8d16015/ This one is "traqueros". Gandydancer (talk) 01:24, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
- Hi and good to have you back! Re your recent additions of info about working conditions: As you know, I had hoped for this sort of information, however what would you think about putting it more into block form rather than divide it into 8 paragraphs as you have done? This is hard for me to exactly put my finger on...it seems that perhaps the way you have presented it sets it apart from the reading of the rest of the article, somehow suggesting that it is more important. Also, would you consider moving it down in the article? Gandydancer (talk) 15:14, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I like that much better. Also, I see you did not move it and that now seems OK to me as well. The previous paragraph introduces the term "maintenance of the way" workers, which is new to me and I would assume most people. Gandydancer (talk) 21:00, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
Footnote help please
[edit]Hi. I continue to work on the Granite, CO article. At first I was frustrated by the lack of information but I have come to realize that Granite's early demise has given me a great opportunity to present a tiny history of Colorado, which is rich indeed. Then too, almost nobody reads that article so I have a great deal of freedom to write as I please; it is good to take a break from the other articles I watch which attract a great deal of lobbying efforts from corporate interests (which seems, to me, to have increased a great deal of late).
Anyway, reading your gandy dancer research I thought I'd try google book research as you have done. Bingo! Found some good info that I can use not only for the article, but to provide better references than what I've been using. But I have run into a problem. Would you please check ref #6. It is so long that it has stretched the page out. Is there a better way to add these book refs? Also, while you are there would you take a look at the discussion page regarding photos. The Denver library has a good photo of a sluice box I'd sure like to use (info at bottom of page re my wiki help inquiry). In your experience, should I just give up on that one?
I see that you have done a great deal of work to support our unions. I have always been a strong supporter, in fact even as a teen Eugene Debs was my first hero. Actually, I chose the name "gandy dancer" because I feel so strongly that people can work together with love and joy, and would were it not for the greed of the few at the top. I read your article about the Leadville strike and did wonder if Granite was affected at all. I do know that almost from the start, individual miners were forced out in Granite (as elsewhere) as money from the East took over and miners quickly became over-worked, under-paid laborers. So if you see any information that could be used in the Granite article, please add it.
I have asked for help adding photos from a friend in Wales. He's smart, a photographer, and computer-savvy, but he's never edited wikipedia and I am afraid that I may have asked too much of him. Any comments would sure be welcome! Comments on the article would be appreciated, as well. Gandydancer (talk) 15:01, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
- Hi there, I watched this film tonight on our local "Maine Experience" TV program and thought of you. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3312747776420574927# Best, Gandy Gandydancer (talk) 02:22, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

WikiProject Colorado
[edit]The year 2011 has brought many changes to the State of Colorado. Several users have asked us to reactivate WikiProject Colorado. We have a new Governor and other state officers, two new U.S. Representatives, many new state legislators, and a new Mayor of Denver. Many articles about Colorado need to be updated and many Colorado places, people, and organizations need new articles. Portal:Colorado needs some new featured articles.
Can you help us? Please see our list of some requested articles. If you would like to remain an active member of WikiProject Colorado, please leave me a message at User talk:Buaidh or e-mail me at Special:EmailUser/Buaidh. If you cannot help right now, you can go to inactive status and then reactivate your status later. Thanks for any help you can provide. Yours aye, Buaidh 18:13, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
WP:Forum and contemporary US change in union practice
[edit]Comrade,
Just a heads up regarding talk pages and WP:FORUM. While current events in the US may be fantastically exciting—the purpose of this project is the construction of an encyclopaedia, and talk pages ought to be used to discuss improvements to articles rather than the content of the article. I didn't want to mention this on a particular article's talk page because it would stifle the mood there. Btw, I appreciated your posters on your website. Yours in union, Fifelfoo (talk) 01:23, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Invitation to take part in a pilot study

Remove my name from your analysis
[edit]At Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)#Request_for_guidance_on_policy, you have made a complete mischaracterization of my position. I have neither supported nor opposed the position in question, so I would like for you to remove my name from your count entirely. --Jayron32 05:24, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- Merci beaucoup. --Jayron32 05:30, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
compressing of references
[edit]I feel deeply for your problem, but note that there are many many advantages of compressing refs, least of all for maintenance purposes. If you are working on an article you recently created, I would suggest that you might avoid the problems you are experiencing by keeping it in userspace until it is in an advanced state. Alternatively, using {{nobots}} on the page will stop bots from visiting your page. When dealing with a 'compressed' article, instead of reverting, you can still locate the 'mother' of a compressed ref by performing a string search; if you dislike the 'autogenerated1912' you can always search and replace such strings with more meaningful names. Regards, --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 02:33, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks. I am not strongly opposed to compressing refs, if it is accomplished at the right time (after article completion), and in the right way (that is, without "ambushing" editors working on an article). Thanks for the suggestions. best wishes, Richard Myers (talk) 03:07, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Help re Wikipedia policy
[edit]Hi Richard, would you please have a look at the section at the bottom of my talk page (I am concerned...) and let me know if you or anyone you know is familiar enough with Wikipedia policy to offer an opinion? Thanks. Gandydancer (talk) 15:17, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Labor Conflicts template
[edit]Richard, thanks for your word of support on that new Template:American Labor Conflicts. I was simply surprised that nothing like this existed yet, so I created it. Looks like you know your stuff so I appreciate the thumbs-up. --Lockley (talk) 18:55, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
- ...and received your suggestion about adding two Labor Detectives, consider it done. Thanks for the thought. I see your traces more and more, with great respect for the work you've done here. all best! --Lockley (talk) 07:24, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Suggestion for WikiProject United States to support WikiProject Colorado
[edit]It was recently suggested that WikiProject Colorado, to which you are a member, may be inactive or semi-active and it might be beneficial to include it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. After reviewing the project it appears that there haven't been much active discussion on the talk page in some time and the only content updates appear to be simple maintenance so being supported by a larger project might be beneficial. I have begun a discussion on the projects talk page to see how the members of the project feel about this suggestion. Another user has added the project to the WPUS template and I added it to the list of supported projects in the WPUS main project page but before I take any further action I wanted to contact each of the active members for their input. --Kumioko (talk) 23:37, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Pullman Strike
[edit]The info in the Pullman Strike article was a cross reference from the Labor Day article, so I think it should be included. The original source is PBS. --Rygee (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:20, 21 August 2011 (UTC).
Pullman Strike, Take 2
[edit]If you don't like my wording, change it, but the article needs to contain something about the strike's relationship to Labor Day becoming a national holiday. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rygee (talk • contribs) 21:49, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
Pullman Strike, The End
[edit]Hello
[edit]I'm trying to get people who are willing to help me out with a pet project I've begun but realised that it will be extremely hard for me to even make a small dent in. First of all, I got your name from the list of active members on the wikiproject for mining articles. Please disregard this, if you're not interested.
So, here's what I'm trying to do and what you could do to help me. I noticed that there were very few articles that list mines. I've tried (to the best of my abilities) to create a sub-page that lists all of the probable articles for lists of mines that I could think of, you can review this here.
Basically, I need help. Suggestions on different lists to add, I need lists created, if the lede I've been using should be changed, I'd like community consensus on the standard layout (I've been going with listing articles like List of gold mines by country and List of mines in the United States by output. If someone would like to make templates for these articles.
Please, don't feel obligated. I came to you, and others like you because of your implied interest in mining articles. List articles are not exactly in everyone's taste. If you are completely uninterested, but think you might know someone who might be, please let them know about it. I could use all the help I can get.
Oh, and if you happen to create any new articles on mines, please add them to any of my recently created lists. Sorry for this being so wordy, have a good day and happy editing! Ncboy2010 (talk) 22:27, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
I am sort of unhappy
[edit](and the point of wikipedia IS to make me happy) that the infobox on Elizabeth Gurley Flynn starts with her CP role, and really that's where her work ended, (with her IWW and ACLU years far behind) but I have had no luck changing or removing it. Do you have an opinion? And some skills to back it up? Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 01:06, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks Richard, much better. Carptrash (talk) 00:17, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- And I see what you did, so next time . . . ........... Carptrash (talk) 00:18, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
