The Big N' Tasty is a McDonald's fast food hamburger introduced in several U.S. cities in 1997 and nationwide on February 16, 2001 with NBA Superstar Kobe Bryant featured in the advertising campaign. Featured at 99¢ in some markets, it includes a quarter-pound beef patty, sesame seed bun, lettuce, tomato slice, mayonnaise dressing, ketchup, chopped onions, two pickle slices, and grill seasoning, and was received positively by customers.

In Canada, the sandwich is sold under the name Big Xtra, taken from the name of the sandwich that the Big N' Tasty replaced in the United States.

This burger should not be confused with the European variation called Big Tasty - First tried out under a different name in selected McDonald's Restaurants in Sweden in summer 2003, then a national release came during the autumn, and the burger got its name Big Tasty (dropping the N') and was made up somewhat differently. It consists of a third pound beef patty, 5-inch sesame seed bun, square-cut lettuce, two tomato slices, Big Tasty sauce (which has a smoke flavour), slivered onions and three slices of Emmental cheese.

In the UK Big Tasty launched in December 2003 with the advertising slogan "Sorry Yanks, this one's for us". It retailed at £2.69 and £3.99 for a meal, and was phased out of all restaurants in August 2005 as part of the menu clear up that made way for the launch of the Deli Sandwiches. It was re-introduced to the UK menu as part of the limited edition Autumn promotion on September 27, 2006.

In Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Puerto Rico, Finland, Ecuador, and Sweden, the sandwich continues to be sold under the name 'Big Tasty'. It was also launched under the name 'Big Tasty' in Romania, on April 4, 2007.

As an addition you can get a second variant called 'Big Tasty Bacon' (same burger as above with added Bacon-slices) in the Netherlands, Poland, Austria and in Sweden.

Swedish McDonald's has released a third variant called 'Chicken Tasty' which does not include the smoke-flavoured sauce.

Trivia

  • Before its introduction, many McDonald's in the Midwest had a similar burger called the QPLT, the Quarter Pounder with Lettuce and Tomato.
  • This sandwich is the reincarnation of the McDLT of the late 1980s. However, the unique packaging and presentation of the McDLT was not preserved.
