This is a list of Presidents of the United Republic of Tanzania. The east African nation was formed on 26 April 1964 after the union between Tanganyika and the People's Republic of Zanzibar and Pemba as the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. On 29 October 1964, the new nation changed its name to the United Republic of Tanzania.
