Srisaila Sri Rajamouli (born V. Rajamouli on 10 October 1973) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and action choreographer who works primarily in Telugu cinema. Rajamouli directed tele-serials under the guidance of K. Raghavendra Rao. His first gig in cinema was Student No. 1. He was born into Telugu family to writer and director V. Vijayendra Prasad.
Career
His first shot, at telugu films was Student No.1 which was a runaway hit of 2001. It took two long years for Rajamouli to come up with his second blockbuster flick Simhadri.
His next movie was Sye, which is based on the game of rugby and how the hero uses rugby to solve the problems his college is hacing. The film had a nail biting rugby match at the climax which includes many artists. It was a first-of-its-kind movie in Tollywood based , in that it was based on a game. This movie was also the first instance of Rajamouli collaborating with Senthil Kumar and in their first stint, the aerial shots and the way the rugby match was shot was very well appreciated.[who?] Rajamouli acted in a brief role in the introduction scene of comedian Venu Madhav in this movie Sye.
With his next flick Chatrapathi, Rajamouli was again at his best, evoking emotions with this attempt. The music of M. M. Keeravani and cinematography by Senthil Kumar added to the films success. In his next stint Vikramarkudu, Rajamouli worked with Raviteja, who essays a dual role of an honest cop as well as a small-time-crook-turned-vigilante. The movie was a big success and was remade into hindi as Rowdy Rathore by Prabhu Deva with Akshay kumar in the lead. Vikramarkudu was remade into Tamil as Siruthai.
It took four years for Jr.NTR to work with S S Rajamouli, and could taste success only after working for the film Yamadonga. It was a socio-fantasy Telugu film praised by critics for the extraordinary sets and visuals.
What was coming next was the biggest film in Telugu Cinema of the time, Magadheera which stood as one of the biggest commercial successess of the time in Telugu Cinema.[3] He has won the Nandi Award for Best Director and Filmfare Award for Best Director – Telugu for the film. His wife Rama Rajamouli has designed the costumes for this prestigious movie. This film also won the National Film Award for Best Choreography.[4]
His comedy thriller film titled Maryada Ramanna (2010) has comedian Sunil as male lead. This was the biggest hit of that year.[5]
His next film Eega which released in Telugu and Tamil on july 6 is a socio-fantasy revenge film with having spent a major part for Visual effects (VFX) received positive reviews from audience and critics as well. Upon the release of the film Eega, a popular website said that Rajamouli would stand in all the places from 1 to 10 in the top ten directors of Tollywood list and the rest would start from 11.[6]
