Need for exact dates and places of birth[edit]

We need help with valid references for precide dates and places of birth for all the 12 finalist acts werldwayd (talk) 06:59, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Problems already[edit]

I have tagged several facts as needing citations. Can we please refrain from using unreliable sources UnrealityTV and Unreality Shout and find proper news sources? Also, please remember to use full citation templates {{cite news}} {{cite web}} or {{cite episode}}, and refer to people by their last name. Thanks. AnemoneProjectors 10:49, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

John Adeleye[edit]

Should we not also work on expanding J'Nay? The page should be about him as a person, not just the time he was known as J'Nay. In fact, it should be probably be moved to John Adeleye as he's definitely better known now with that name. AnemoneProjectors 01:30, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The John Adeleye page has developed quite well after that comment and now we have a far more comprehensive page that will surely grow with the live shows as well. werldwayd (talk) 03:01, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it has, everyone's done a great job. AnemoneProjectors 11:52, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Storm Lee[edit]

Is is name Storm Lee or Storm Lee Gardner? Cos didn't he say at his audition when asked that his real name was Storm Lee Gardner, and he added the Storm part? Should we refer to him as Gardner instead of Lee? AnemoneProjectors 11:33, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The show just calls him Storm Lee, so I think that will be enough. Raider655 (talk) 16:08, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes but what's his actual real name? This should also be given, as we haven't just called Wagner 'Wagner' in his first line. AnemoneProjectors 16:31, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Scottish papers are going with Storm Lee Gardener [1] [2] [3] which I suspect is correct as he did say he added the Storm onto Lee Gardner. His performing name on the X Factor and discographies is Storm Lee but I would think the right thing for the first line would be - Storm Lee Gardener (born Lee Gardner) --Holkingers (talk) 17:07, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Good stuff :-) AnemoneProjectors 17:12, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Overs[edit]

Ok since the summary box was too small I'll explain here. The overs category has always been incorrectly labelled. In series 1-3 it was called the over 25s, suggesting anyone aged 26+ would be in this category, yet the younger category was always labelled 16-24. They've used the same logic with the over 28s, and it's even been said that it's the "28s and over". Whoever undid my edit did so with the reason that 'Marlon was 29'. Clearly he wasn't since he was in Dannii's category, and if he was 29 he'd have been with Louis.

So, with that said, the Boys and girls would include anyone aged 16-27, and the overs anyone aged 28 and over, as it always has done. Raider655 (talk) 16:07, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a source specifically outlining this? Marlon is 29, that is a fact. We based the ages on this report. AnemoneProjectors 16:34, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The existing discussion is here. AnemoneProjectors 16:36, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's not the most reputable of sources. I think the fact that he was in the boys category on the show itself is proof enough that he isn't 29. Raider655 (talk) 21:45, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well originally we had a source saying it was 28 and over from The Sun... but perhaps Marlon was 28 but now he's 29 and that's where I'm getting confused. I asked the official X Factor twitter people but didn't get a reply... AnemoneProjectors 22:05, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think when I said Marlon was 29 I meant he was 28 because if he was 29 there would be no ambiguity :-) only just realised, sorry about that. John Adeleye is 29. AnemoneProjectors 14:14, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

F.Y.D. / F.Y.D / FYD ?[edit]

The nomenclature of this group is a nightmare as show in this video They title the video F.Y.D. when they appear on the TV broadcast F.Y.D with no final dot appears on screen and on the background screens it is just FYD I can't see why you wouldn't have a dot after the D as it is is an abbreviation just like the F and the Y but on the finalist page the dot is missing --Holkingers (talk) 17:27, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's F.Y.D. per on screen (seen at judges' houses, voting lines, etc) and their digital download. AnemoneProjectors 17:55, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, when it comes to voting it's F.Y.D. but in the opening bit where their names all come up in big bold letters, it's F.Y.D - but it makes more sense that they'd have the extra dot. But most of the time it's F.Y.D. plus that makes more sense, why would the D miss off the dot when the F and the Y have them? AnemoneProjectors 22:07, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Talking of F.Y.D. I have a semi-decent photo of them performing tonight that I will upload and add to the article later :-) AnemoneProjectors 20:42, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What the judges said[edit]

I'm against including quotes from the judges but if people insist, this has everything that was said about the final 16. AnemoneProjectors 01:56, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wagner[edit]

On the show he is simply referred to as "Wagner" but here it calls him by his last name? Which shall we use, because he only goes by his first name? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.176.68.171 (talk) 16:35, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We have listed him as Wagner, but as it is an encyclopedia, we also give his real name. See also Aaliyah, Shakira, Jamelia, Rhydian to name a few. AnemoneProjectors 17:10, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Matt Lawton or Newton or Newtion?[edit]

All this confusion may have been caused by an unidentified editor (194.73.51.34) who changed a lot of references including changing the name from Lawton, the correct one to Newton (what he added without substantiatin). Here are references from media: The Daily Record, Digital Spy, Coventry Telegraph, Metro IMDb The source of the confusion may be Mathew Newton, a TV personality associated with The X Factor but nothing to do with FYD nor its Matt Lawton. Matthew Newton was axed from the X Factor for example Digital Spy MSN] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Werldwayd (talkcontribs)

Are we totally sure? I Googled and got more results for Newton than Lawton. AnemoneProjectors 19:33, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure anymore. The biggest hits is for Matt Newtion with an i!!! This certainly needs further investigation and search There is a Facebook that says Newton http://www.facebook.com/fyd and another that says Newtion: http://www.facebook.com/pages/FYD/158798660800388 werldwayd (talk) 19:50, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
His Twitter (confirmed as really him by The X Factor) says Newton... AnemoneProjectors 19:53, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The second Facebook page seems to be their official one as that's linked to from their official Twitter. But that says Newtion! Probably a typo, cos that's not even a name. AnemoneProjectors 19:55, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hang on, his Twitter DOES say Newtion! It must be Newtion. AnemoneProjectors 20:00, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The People article also says Newtion: http://www.people.co.uk/celebs-tv/celebrities/2010/09/12/x-factor-boyband-star-slept-rough-on-the-streets-102039-22554299/ The mystery thickens werldwayd (talk) 20:02, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Newtion makes more sense, as there are FAR more Google hits. Newton and Lawton actually have very few, a lot fewer than would be expected. We should change it to Newtion. AnemoneProjectors 20:05, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am ok with Newtion for now. Of course the most authentic would be the "audition tape" the initial performance when each presents himself and his age and profession and where he's from. But the X Factor video site shows just a brief part of their audition performance without going into their names... I am sure there are followers of the program in Britain who have followed the whole audition thing. werldwayd (talk) 20:16, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
When it comes to groups, they don't show the members' names anyway. Sometimes the judges ask their names but they don't normally give their last names. But in this case I think Twitter and Facebook are the most reliable sources, to be honest. AnemoneProjectors 20:22, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Naming artists[edit]

For The X Factor (UK series 7) page it was decided not to list the names of artists - original or otherwise - who had previously performed songs that contestants sing. It would seem reasonable (and consistent) for this page to do the same. I just scanned the page quickly, but I noticed that only sometimes is an artist named and there seems to be no rhyme or reason for why or why not. The way artists are mentioned also varies significantly for no reason (from the simple possessive "James Brown's 'It's A Man's Man's Man's World' " to the more complex "Ednaswap's 'Torn' made famous by Natalie Imbruglia"). And as it stands, at least six of the artists named are not the original artists, but someone who covered the song subsequently. I believe all the songs where artists are attributed also have wikilinks to pages dedicated to those songs, so the naming of any artist is entirely unnecessary. 142 and 99 (talk) 13:28, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it's probably a good idea here as well to just name the songs. AnemoneProjectors 14:44, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done 142 and 99 (talk) 15:57, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from MrsEddPlant, 25 October 2010[edit]

{{edit semi-protected}} On One Direction's section of the page, it states one of their names is Zayn. However it is in fact Zain

MrsEddPlant (talk) 02:11, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this has been discussed and it seems that sources differ on this. Do you have a source to 100% confirm that it is Zain rather than Zayn? AnemoneProjectors 10:21, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On page 12 of last week's X Magazine, he is pictured with the name Zayn on his front during rehearsals. AnemoneProjectors 12:41, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Update from last nights show needed[edit]

There has been no update of the performer’s profiles after last night’s show. How can I edit their profiles to include last night’s songs? Also how could I add pictures to the profiles? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.77.117.210 (talk) 14:18, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Treyc's name[edit]

In this week's F Factor [4] Treyc says she changed the spelling of her name when she was about 16, but can we find out if she was born Tracey or Tracy? AnemoneProjectors 02:12, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Paije and Harry Potter[edit]

I was watching the live Harry Potter premiere and Paije was interviewed (well, all the X Factor folks were) and he mentioned that he has been an extra in the films. I was wondering if this should be added to his bio as I've just found a reliable source - [5]? - JuneGloom Schmooze 20:41, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Saw it on Digital Spy earlier today, thought it should be added. So yeah. AnemoneProjectors 23:14, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from Carnegie, 14 November 2010[edit]

{{edit semi-protected}} Please change "The group met while taking dance classes at Pinewood Studios and formed over Facebook.[98]" to "The group met while taking dance classes at Pineapple Studios.[98]" and change the reference in [98] to http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/153445/X-Factor-FYD-boy-Matt-I-m-a-lucky-beggar- because Pinewood Studio is a film studio whereas Pineapple Studios is a dance studio so it stands to reason that dance classes would be held at the latter and not the former (which is backed up by the reference I supplied). The original reference (Fulham Chronicle) has made an obvious error (which has been copied onto Wikipedia).

Carnegie (talk) 21:55, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done That makes much more sense to me, too. Reference and sentence changed. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:31, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Paywall links[edit]

What are the rules about links that lead to articles that cannot be read without paying? Should these remain? Probably not the right place to ask, but I thought I'd give it a go. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.218.173.37 (talk) 08:55, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes they are fine, see WP:PAYWALL. AnemoneProjectors 17:34, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome, thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.218.173.37 (talk) 11:59, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dates of birth[edit]

Why are the contestants' dates of birth not shown like in past series' articles? If it helps, I know Cher's is 5th March 1993 and Katie's is 24th January 1986, and Mary must have been born in (November?) 1959 because it said in a recent interview in X magazine that she turned 51 recently, what of the others, and why aren't they shown? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.178.11.97 (talk) 12:45, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have reliable sources for Cher and Katie's dates of birth? Perhaps nobody has reported their dates of birth and that's why. They all will need reliable sources. AnemoneProjectors 17:32, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I know that Katie mentioned her birthday being on January 24th in a video diary, and I think someone who knows Cher mentioned when her birthday is —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.178.11.97 (talk) 00:07, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you know which video diary, we can use that as a reference. AnemoneProjectors 00:48, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If they have formally announced it than why not, but I don't thin that personal information should be seeked out for. Now the winner (if or when they become famous) could be an exception.--Cooly123 22:37, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

I agree but it must be cited by a reliable source. I added Wagner's because his year of birth was actually stated in an episode. AnemoneProjectors 00:16, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from Izzame08, 20 November 2010[edit]

{{edit semi-protected}} There is a spelling mistake in the paragraph on Aiden Grimshaw. The final word should read 'eliminated', whereas it is currently spelled 'elimianted'.

Izzame08 (talk) 02:04, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done although it was in Katie's section not Aiden's. Thanks. AnemoneProjectors 02:23, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Performances[edit]

This article is a collection of biographies of the X Factor contestants and supplements The X Factor (UK series 7). It seems to me that the details of their performances on the show don't belong here - that infomation is already in the tables at the parent page in a more complete and more useful form. I42 (talk) 19:42, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling[edit]

Can someone redo this article with UK spelling? I keep deeing the word "favor" - its "favour". 81.129.63.46 (talk) 20:34, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I changed favor but are there any wrong spellings? AnemoneProjectors 00:53, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Katie Waissel - tabloid story[edit]

Reference [53] is Michael Sophocles selling a story on Katie Waissel, not the other way around as the paragraph implies. I'm not sure if Katie Waissel ever did sell a story on Michael Sophocles in 2008 anyway. As it is, I think the paragraph is misleading. 82.5.63.19 (talk) 20:28, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rebecca finishing 2nd[edit]

Should we add a note about Rebecca being the first ever female runner-up of The X Factor in all its UK history? It may be something worth noting. If not, please say why. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.179.167.27 (talk) 21:51, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Considering that two females have won, being the first female runner-up isn't a massive achievement. AnemoneProjectors 00:12, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, but all the runner-ups have been male prior to series 7 and it could be something to take note of —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.179.167.27 (talk) 15:26, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the point of that. It's like saying Stacey Solomon was the first female to come third, or Lloyd Daniels was the first male to come fifth... it's trivial, and females have won so it's also meaningless. AnemoneProjectors 19:05, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Record Deals[edit]

It's been reported that Simon Cowell has signed One Direction - here's the most reliable source I could find to prove this: http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/tv-radio/future-bright-after-boys-sign-lucrative-record-deal-with-cowells-label-syco-2458507.html

Also, Cher Lloyd: http://www.metro.co.uk/tv/850290-will-i-am-to-offer-x-factors-cher-lloyd-a-record-deal And Mary Byrne: http://www.hellomagazine.com/celebrities-news-in-pics/08-12-2010/55282/— Preceding unsigned comment added by FallenSilver (talkcontribs) 21:11, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

One Direction member birthdays[edit]

Add birthdays to One Direction member information. I.e., Louis Tomlinson was born 24 December 1991. Niall Horan was born on 13th September 1993. Zain Malik was born on 12th January 1993. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.174.62.160 (talk) 00:43, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Only with reliable sources. AnemoneProjectors 01:07, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Styles was born on 1st February 1994. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abbie.Georgina.07 (talkcontribs)

Rebecca Ferguson record deal[edit]

Hi, Cheryl Cole announced on Chatty Man that Rebecca had getting a record deal. --2.97.155.16 (talk) 11:18, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that's what she actually said. AnemoneProjectors 12:09, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
She did she, she said she had got one.. --92.17.7.50 (talk) 16:06, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What were her actual words? Has it been confirmed anywhere else? AnemoneProjectors 19:56, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Storm Lee (2)[edit]

Hi, i was wondering why Storm does not have a page to himself, he has done ALOT more than John, who has one, singing for the people he has sung for, making his own album, and collaberated with Andy Caldwell, is that not notable enough to deserve a page to himself? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.146.31.78 (talk) 12:45, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

John already had an article before The X Factor, if he didn't we probably wouldn't have made one. Storm Lee might have done stuff before The X Factor but I don't think we would have any information to add that isn't already here. So we might as well not bother, it would just be duplication. AnemoneProjectors 12:55, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Storm Lee (3)[edit]

Apparently he is recording with Ricky Martin, (livalavidaloca dude) i assume that is worth mentioning as there are several sources, http://www.unrealitytv.co.uk/x-factor/x-factor-storm-lee-to-work-with-ricky-martin/ http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/s103/the-x-factor/news/a296159/storm-lee-to-sing-on-ricky-martin-album.html http://entertainment.stv.tv/music/218364-ricky-martin-and-x-factors-storm-lee-team-up-on-album/ maybe it won;t be mentiond until it is actually recorded, but maybe it is worth it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.150.251.163 (talk) 17:57, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cher Lloyd[edit]

Cher Lloyd since leaving the UK version of The X Factor 2010 is now working with top producers like The Runners, RedOne, Will-i-Am. Cher Lloyd's 1st album is due for release on 22/08/2011(source: www.cherlloyd.com cher's official website). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.39.109.116 (talk) 14:36, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That doesn't mean she should have a separate page. If she has an album or single in the charts then she can. –AnemoneProjectors– 18:56, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, i'm sorry about that i got a bit carried away with myself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.39.109.116 (talk) 21:22, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cher Lloyd has a new hair style and has transformed completely into a vintage style and she looks nothing like her other look <----- Someone edit that, its the worst statement i've ever seen.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.170.218.1 (talk)

  • It should be possible to edit the page, it doesn't seem to be protected. I removed that sentence, as there was no reference for it and nothing to suggest that it was notable. Peter E. James (talk) 12:20, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
:::: Cher Lloyd is on the Radio 1 B playlist which meets criteria for musicians and ensembles point 11 does it not? Footix2 (talk) 09:43, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mary Bryne own page?[edit]

I strongly suggest that Mary gets her own page? Her single charted at number 12 in Ireland according to its official charts? Plus her debut album is due to be released? --SATURDAYmight. (talk) 14:53, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If her single has charted then yes, she can have an aritcle. –AnemoneProjectors– 22:33, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've created a page for her if people want to expand on it. 03md 17:59, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

F.Y.D.[edit]

I've just found out that Jordan is no longer in F.Y.D., I don't know when this happened but they're about to announce a new member apparently. Any ideas? –AnemoneProjectors– 20:35, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cher Lloyd not produced by Diplo[edit]

It currently states that Diplo produced Cher's debut single, which is clearly not true. He said on twitter "I did not produce cher lloyd i have no iidea who that is is that like cher and lloyd bankz mixed 2gether ?" so can someone correct this please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pointless lobster (talkcontribs) 12:39, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of The X Factor finalists (UK series 7)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
