"Wolf"
[edit]If it's not a wolf then why called it a maned "Wolf"? They could have just called it a "maned dog" instead. Usually calling a dog a wolf makes it a wolf.
True but since it represents a wolf, in its run ( Peferably called a lope ) dietry needs and body shape, the call it a wolf. A Irish wolfhound is called a "wolf dog" but is still very much dog! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thunder808 (talk • contribs) 02:53, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
An alternative English name is “Bog Fox” referring to its habitat which is often near marshes. Ptilinopus (talk) 11:12, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
The wolfhound is named because it's a hound that kills wolves. Like a deerhound can kill deer or a foxhound can kill foxes. Hell, a "bird dog" can retrieve ducks that you've shot into water. These names describe dog's "jobs" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:601:9D80:8AA:B077:3352:CE66:B4E6 (talk) 18:54, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Dog definition
[edit]The Maned Wolf is a dog, as are all species of the family, Canidae. The MW is not a domestic dog, but saying it is not a dog creates confusion and hence my sensible edit to exclude the word 'dog' from the sentence. It is clearer this way. In the same way a Lion is a cat, as are all of Felidae, but off course the wild species are not domestic cats.--Mrodowicz (talk) 14:06, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
Planet Earth III filming

Category
[edit]Wulf Isebrand has removed the category Category:Wolves despite other non-Canis lupus species being included in that category. I attempted to add it back, but they have removed it again. It belongs in that category. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:17, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- They are actually right. Some people mistaken other canids for wolves, hence the misclassification. I suggest that all non Canis lupus articles be removed as well. Wolverine XI (talk to me) 20:41, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oh meh. The concept of "wolf" is larger than C. lupus, regardless that wolf is one species. - UtherSRG (talk) 22:52, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
