At football pool --which we now tag {{globalize}})-- coverage is specific to association football and nearly limited to a Britain. Evidently the latter is an instance of what we cover in the betting pool article lead section. So are the American football NFL or bowl game and U.S. college basketball pools of present section 2 Betting pool#Sports Betting Globally. I suppose similar pools that feature NHL ice hockey are popular somewhere in North America, and same for Australian rules football in Australia. But our hockey pool article, now linked there, is not an appropriate target.

We have much to say about the British football pools, in the long first section of the linked article, and little to say now at betting pool. Merge into betting pool is not reasonable. And rather than {globalize} football, I would limit coverage to the British case, under appropriately limited pagename, and export the short section 2 Football pool#Continental European pools (plus related material from the footer, if any).

I do know that PL.wiki does not generally provide inter-language links to our related pages--no work-around the Wikidata general ignorance of redirects.

My questions, such as the main one articulated here last week (now underlined above), concern the rate at which use of this template in EN.wiki article space now generates authority data that is useful. (Above I passed over such details, but I now I suppose I have supposed: useful to Wikidata because the ID values defined here in EN.wiki articles are correct and are not yet correctly in that database.) And what is the sub-rate at which our editors, even with a little more knowledge or public spirit, could not conveniently enter the same data at WD via an auto-generated link to "Wikidata item"--could not because there is no such link when they add local parameter values to template {{Authority control}}.

Melling or Whelan[edit]

O. R. Melling, or G. V. Whelan, is an Irish Canadian writer. Her novels as Melling are aimed at both adults and young adults and contain stories mostly written around Irish and Celtic folklore, faeries in particular.

Geraldine Valerie Whelan was born in 1952.[4] She was raised in Toronto, Ontario, with seven sisters and two brothers, where she attended Loretto College School. When she was 18 years old she hitched-hiked across Canada and through California. Melling travelled extensively in her youth, straying as far from Toronto as Malaysia and northern Borneo.

With a B.A. in philosophy and Celtic Studies from Trinity College in the University of Toronto and an M.A. in Mediaeval History, Melling has written film scripts, papers and become a literary critic under her real name, G.V. Whelan.

Currently living in her hometown of Bray, County Wicklow, Melling is still writing and has a daughter, Findabhair.[when?]

Some of Melling's books have been translated into German, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Slovenian and Czech.
