Edit Summary

[edit]

Hello, useful little box, such that when you make an edit you tell the rest of us; remove extraneous comma would do and we would trust that you have done so and not spend time checking your edit. Cheers Crusoe8181 (talk) 08:43, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough, will do. 4Jays1034 (talk) 01:49, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your "grammar correction" did the following:

  • Changed consists of to comprises - that's not a correction - both are correct.
  • Changed thirteen to 13 - that's not a correction either.
  • Broke the wikilink by moving the 's' in states outside the link.

It's great you look for corrections to make, but you might want to check before reverting again on WP:GA articles that there wasn't a good reason it had been reverted, and that there is actually any point to the edit. Thanks. Begoontalk 17:10, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Now that I look at your contributions I see you've made a whole series of edits changing "consists of" to "comprises". It's unnecessary, and in some cases wrong - such as: here where you've basically broken the text. Please don't make unnecessary changes like this. Begoontalk 17:20, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not to pile on, but I just came here because I noticed the same pattern. There's another editor here that has a preference for "comprise" and has gone around fixing places where it was mis-used, but I believe they were discouraged from (and correctly ceased) changing existing "consist"/"compose" usage to "comprise". In most cases, they are equivalent. "Comprise" is probably the least known of the words among people with limited English vocabularies, and should therefore be avoided in favor of the more commonly understood terms (unless you can establish consensus to the contrary somewhere). Thanks. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 18:06, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Opting in to VisualEditor

[edit]

As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 100 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:23, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar

[edit]

Why are you removing commas before dates? SLBedit (talk) 02:29, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Commas after introductory clauses

[edit]

Please stop removing commas after introductory clauses that provide dates (e.g., "In 1989, something happened") with an edit summary of "Fixed grammar". Grammar calls for that comma to be there. Please feel free to check any manual of style for verification. In the meantime, please stop now, as I note other editors have asked you to explain your actions without a response. Request reason:

I understand why I have been blocked and would like to be "reinstated." A combination of ignorance of the rules and my failure see the many warnings I was given, led to the block. I have revised my editing style and fully understand the rules. I apologize to those who have been negatively affected by my actions. Please allow me to continue reviewing and editing articles, I will not disappoint you. Additionally, I have changed my notifications preferences and added my new email address to my profile. This way, I will be able to proactively respond to administrator inquires. Thank you. 4Jays1034 (talk) 18:20, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Yamla (talk) 13:52, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Can you succinctly state what the issues with your prior editing style were and how you will avoid repeating them? signed, Rosguill talk 20:36, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I got into the (bad) habit of removing commas from certain introductory clauses. For example, I felt that “In 1979, the book was released in the United States,” should be written as, “In 1979 the book was released in the United States.” I understand my edits in this regard were incorrect. I have familiarized myself with Wikipedia editing guidelines and will not repeat these errors. 4Jays1034 (talk) 01:39, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
