Your GA nomination of Nerodia clarkii[edit]

The article Nerodia clarkii you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Nerodia clarkii for comments about the article, and Talk:Nerodia clarkii/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. 1936 IA Senate Special Election Source?[edit]

Hello, Alexcs114.
Alongside the various NY US Senate maps you have added (thank you for all that, by the way), you also added maps for the two Senate races in Iowa that were up in 1936. Do you remember where you got the data for the special election?
Thank you! PrusBis6187 (talk) 20:42, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I appreciate the thanks! With regards to the source on both the IA General and special Senate Election, It's simply from the Iowa Secretary of State Website, Here. Scroll down to the bottom of the page I linked, and you'll see "1936 General Canvass Summary". Click that and on page 2 you'll be able to see the presidential results in the state, as well as both the senate and senate special results (they are put right next to each other). Hope that helps! 1949 NY US Senate Special Election[edit]

Hello again.
Looking at your map for the 1949 US Senate special election in New York, I think you might want to double-check your percentage for Allegany County. You have it as being over 90% Republican, but the interactive map on Our Campaigns (which gives the NY Red Book as the source) puts Allegany in the 70s for percent. PrusBis6187 (talk) 00:37, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So, my process for NY State Maps (Pre internet era) is generally to find a source of the data, and then manually type that all into excel - following that i use formulas to get percentages and then paint my inkscape map, right? I've got a copy of 1950 NY Red Book (containing 1949 Sen Special data) HERE, which has the state-wide vote count for the US Senate Race on page 712. With Regard to Allegany, it lists the results as follows: John Foster Dulles (R) = 110,514, Herbert H. Lehman (D+L) =3632. Now, I am aware that the listed 110 thousand votes for Republican Foster Dulles in a county that as of today has a population of 46K is most likely a typo, however, per Wikipedia's no OR policy, I haven't interfered at all. Not my fault, but the fault of the NY State legislature.
Looking into it more:
My excel sheet lists the statewide vote count (inc. nyc) total for Dulles as 2,484,381; Whereas the total for Dulles in the NYRed statewide count (inc. NYC) is 2,384,381. So, I think that the 100K extra typo wasn't accounted for in the final statewide vote count, and was just a mistake made on the vote count for that individual county. If we remove that 100K (as Ourcampaigns did) you get 10.5K against 3.5K, which is ~70%. I can fix the coloring (thereby rendering their typo moot) if you'd like, but don't want to violate any WP policies is all.
I actually remember now being very confused by this when I made this map back in February, lol.
TL;DR: Typo was made by the NY State Government (Known because it didn't show up in the final statewide count, just in the count for that one county) to make votes in the county larger then its population, not sure what we should do on that. Alexcs114 :) 09:44, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
