Hello. I placed your Wayne Townsend hook on the next update. One DYK regular said it was too long but I shortened the hook. With all the work put into writing the article and a good hook, it seemed like a shame to see it go to waste. Hope you like the shortened hook. Archtransit 01:31, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Re: Algie Brown. I don't think that one is going to make it. It is many days too old at this point. If you notice, another editor at T:TDYK pointed out that the hook given was very long, and since no shorter hook was proposed, it slipped past the expiration date. Howdy!

I noticed you are a pretty prolific article writer. I noticed you primarily create articles about the Arklatex area with a focus on the "LA" stuff. I am from Humble, TX and went to TAMU so I know about some of the people you are talking about (My wife went to SFASU so you may not like her as much as me :) ).

Some of the articles you have been writing are great! Mary Evelyn Parker as the first woman treasurer of Lousisana. Others however are not exactly notable as the sources backing up the article are pretty shaky. I know this is hard but some of the articles you have created just aren't notable enough for Wikipedia and it is causing people concern. I just wanted to bring it up as you are creating nice articles. I just think the subject of the articles needs a bit more notability. spryde | talk 23:16, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Quick! DYK help!

I saw your Billy Freeman hook on DYK. Quick, get a reference for the 16 years he worked for the bridge. Without the reference, I cannot in good conscience put the hook in the next update section. The hook expires today. Not much time left. Reference #1 doesn't mention it, I don't think. Archtransit (talk) 19:25, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your well researched response! Billy, there's a RFC (request for comment) about you. It's somewhat like a complaint. After it's finished, it could be used against you if others bring it to the Arbitration Committee. If you would like any kind of help, such as adoption, I am willing to help, even with Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User, if this is beneficial. I believe in friendly discussion as much as possible. I don't believe in name calling, not that I think that someone is doing that. Archtransit (talk) 17:06, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Could you tell me how to find this RFC link? I don't see it. What is being arbitrated? I don't find arbitration helpful on this forum. I find that many of these editors here lack basic knowledge of Louisiana politics and do engage in name calling. Thanks for your help.

Here's the link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Billy_Hathorn My suggestion is before you respond, think for a moment and have the attitude "let's work together" rather than "you are a bunch of idiots who don't know better". In WP, there's a term called canvassing. Some people consider it a crime. If you aren't spamming and just ask 1 or 2 for their consideration, it's no big deal. Just a FYI so nobody can accuse you if you aren't doing it. Archtransit (talk) 21:39, 9 December 2007 (UTC) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:CANVASS

Moon Griffon

Any relationship to the Griffon Corporation?

http://www.whitehouse.gov/radio/archive2005.html March 4, 2005 Secretary Snow on Social Security US Treasury Secretary John Snow visits with Ruth Ulrich of the Moon Griffon Show, KMLB, Monroe, LA. Note that one of the references, either the TV station or the newspaper, lists the 10 or so stations that carry his broadcasts. This reference could support the edit that his program is broadcasted on 10 stations, which make him more notable than a local radio commentator.

Any use for this?

IN VAST WAREHOUSE, FAMILY CARVES OUT AN ELEGANT HOME E-MAIL Print Single-Page Save Share Del.icio.us Digg Facebook Newsvine Permalink By SANDRA SALMANS Published: April 23, 1987 LEAD: NOBODY would ever accuse the Toledanos, voracious collectors, of doing things in a small way. Ben C. Toledano, a lawyer with an ample girth and an appetite for modern Southern literature, buys four copies of every book by Walker Percy or Eudora Welty, one for each of the Toledanos' children. NOBODY would ever accuse the Toledanos, voracious collectors, of doing things in a small way. Ben C. Toledano, a lawyer with an ample girth and an appetite for modern Southern literature, buys four copies of every book by Walker Percy or Eudora Welty, one for each of the Toledanos' children. His wife, Roulhac - who has renovated homes in New Orleans, written about New Orleans architecture and now runs an antiques shop here - said that they just entertain hugely.

For us, she said, less is not more. More is more.

So when the Toledanos, their son and three daughters, two dogs, a cat and collections of antique furniture, china, dolls and doll furniture moved here from New Orleans four years ago, they wanted lots of space. What they got was a warehouse.

For a trifle under $200,000 they bought a three-story warehouse that had been built in 1914 for a wholesale grocer and, more recently, had been used by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. The warehouse was structurally sound, but it presented some design problems: the space was vast (6,000 square feet on each floor) and irregular (a trapezoid measuring 90 feet along the front, 95 feet along the back, 53 feet on one side and 122 feet on the other).

After four years and $200,000 more in renovation costs, the vast top floor of the warehouse has been turned into an elegant home with a manageable number of rooms, none of them immense except for the 1,000-square-foot library, which holds 12,000 books.

To begin with, the Toledanos had to clear out a space that for years had been inhabited mostly by pigeons. Then, without benefit of either architect or floor plan, they attacked the space itself. We just started out with one big room, said Mr. Toledano, who has helped his wife renovate homes as a hobby. His name is from his Spanish ancestors who settled in New Orleans; his wife, who was born in Texas, has a Huguenot first name.

Mr. Toledano laid two-by-four's on the floor to mark where walls would go. That way you walk through your floor plan, he said. If you want to make a room larger, you just move your two-by-four. The only modules, such as they were, were the thick pine posts that punctuated the space every 15 to 20 feet.

The front of the building overlooks the town and is quieter than the rear, and there the Toledanos put four bedrooms and two baths, all of them coming off a long corridor. The rear of the building, which overlooks the C.&O. Railway tracks just 20 feet away and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance, was turned into common space: the library and a large living room leading into a dining room. The kitchen is in the middle of the building. That way, Mr. Toledano said, Every bedroom has access to the kitchen and the entrance hall without going through any other room.

To light the living and dining rooms the Toledanos punched 11 windows in the rear wall of the warehouse. To light the interior space, they put a skylight over the kitchen and made a separate solarium with a 15-by-20-foot skylight. They kept the rafters over the solarium. My idea was to change things as little as possible, Mrs. Toledano said. It's a warehouse, so let it be a warehouse.

For the same reason, she said, she disdained conventional drapes for the windows, covering them instead with either shutters or Roman shades fashioned out of her old curtains. For windowsills in the bedrooms she found old stair treads. And for the floor the Toledanos bought maple boards that, because they were irregular or riddled with wormholes, had been destined for heavy crating. (continued)

Your DYK submissions

Hi Billy, I'd just like to inform you that the criteria for DYK nominations has changed somewhat and that articles now need inline citations for the facts in the hook. A number of your articles have been rejected because they don't contain such citations. So please be sure that your hook is properly cited with an in-text cite (or cites) so that it meets the DYK criteria. Thanks, Gatoclass (talk) 13:38, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

I found the inline citation for Don Dubbins so that was fine, thanks for providing it. Unfortunately, one of the other reviewers thinks the quality of the sources themselves aren't up to scratch, so your article may not get promoted in any case. Gatoclass (talk) 14:40, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi Billy Hathorn, I see that some of the articles you've written under review for deletion on grounds that their subjects are not suitably notable. I commend your dedication in researching and writing these articles, and would like to point out that there's a wiki where they would be very welcome -- Wikipopuli, which hosts biographical articles and does not impose a notability requirement. Named <ref> tags

Billy, I noticed from some of your edits to the Radcliffe Killam article that you may be unfamiliar with named reference tags. They can save on typing and they help to keep Wikipedia reference lists short, but still complete. Here's how they work:

If you are going to be using a particular reference several times put a name in the <ref> tag like this:

<ref name=Stuff>Reference information here.</ref>

Notice the "name=Stuff" goes inside the <ref> tag itself. I used "Stuff" as an example, but use whatever name you want. Some people use a word or two of the headline. Some people use an authors name. But it can be anything you want. Then on subsequent uses of the same reference all you have to do is type this:

<ref name=Stuff />

Notice that you don't need to repeat any of the reference information. Also, notice that there is no </ref> tag, and in fact the closing slash is at the end of the original <ref> tag.

Here's a contrived example to show you what results. Typing this:

This is an entirely made up example.<ref name=Stuff>Reference information here.</ref> It is mostly nonsense,<ref name=Nonsense>Notice how these letters correspond to each instance of this particular reference.</ref> although it may have some substance.<ref name=Stuff /> But really, it is just nonsense.<ref name=Nonsense />

Generates this:

This is an entirely made up example.[1] It is mostly nonsense,[2] although it may have some substance.[1] But really, it is just nonsense.[2]

And then using {{Reflist}}, generates this:

Categorization

Hello. When creating categories, it is important that you assign your new category to a parent category. For example, Category:Arizona Republicans should be within Category:Republicans (United States). Organizing categories makes finding information easier and your categories more useful. Thanks. --Tom (talk - email) 14:33, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Good work on Crispin Sanchez and a little advice about referencing

Hi Billy!

First of, nice work on the Crispin Sanchez article. Its incredibly well done for a new article, and im very happy with your thorough wikifying and referencing. Also, im pretty much impressed that you improved the article so soon after i tagged it for cleanup (Though it makes me feel slightly sad you gave those tags such little time to enjoy the page :))

Apart from that, i have a little advise about referencing that you might find usefull. I notice that in your version there are several references used multiple times. There are a few problems with this: First, the source of the article becomes quite unreadable due to the excessive amount of links, Second, the same reference gets listed multiple times, and last: Its more work then needed :).

Named Referencing

If you want to reference to a source multiple times, you can create something that is called a Named Reference. A named reference works like this: You give a reference a name, and instead of simply adding the full reference next time, you simply add the name to that reference. This will be much shorter text wise, and it will only add the reference to the list once. Here is how its done:

The first reference is fully written out, but includes a name=<Name> part after the opening tag. Example:.
<ref name=wire>http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=19408642&BRD=2290&PAG=461&dept_id=569392&rfi=6</ref>

Any subsequent addition of the reference should be written as: ref name=<Name>. Example:
<ref name=wire/>

For an example of an article containing named referencing, have a look at your own Crispin Sanchez article, which i edited to include this.

Well, so much for me writing. Kind regards, and happy editing to you! Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 22:01, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, Excirial, your explanation is one that I can follow. Someone else tried to explain this procedure to me earlier, but I did not grasp it. I will keep your example for quick reference.

Speedy deletion of Glen Starnes

Please do not make personal attacks. Wikipedia has a strict policy against personal attacks. Attack pages and images are not tolerated by Wikipedia and are speedily deleted. Users who continue to create or repost such pages and images in violation of our biographies of living persons policy will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Thank you.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Kesh (talk) 22:14, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

How can I place {{hangon}} to an article that was immediately deleted. As far as being a personal attack, the article is a compilation of news articles about the individual. He is given space to reply in the article. Billy Hathorn (talk) 17:41, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
The article was entirely based on negative information, and contained no actual biographical information about the subject. That is a violation of WP:BLP. As for "space to reply in the article," I'm not sure what you're talking about. We don't expect the subject of an article to log in and defend themselves. If you really feel this is unjustified, you can discuss it with the deleting admin here. If they refuse to undelete, you can make your case on WP:DRV. -- Kesh (talk) 21:49, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
