Question

Hi, a particular page has been vandalised in a number of modifications (e.g. -(970) 217-4920 this man is a very hot hot hot foot ball player, that loves is so cool, and i love him, he likes men). I could change each individual act of vandalism. It would be easier to revert back about 6 versions. How do you do that? Avalon 22:31, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

Welcome to WikiProject Politics!

Cyberjunkie, apologies for not personally welcoming you to the project yet, and many thanks for signing up so soon after its inception. Both the Portal and WikiProject pages are more or less up and running now, and the project page has a list of start-up tasks on there. At the moment, my main concern is to compile all categories relating to Politics and somehow present a useful selection of these on the Portal, but it would be just as helpful to start adding other tasks on the project page to keep everyone busy.

The fact that you already run a Politics project will be of great use - I'm sure you have a much better idea of how to go about things than I do, so add as many tasks as you can think of. The dust will settle soon, after which the project can get busy keeping the politics content of WP up to date, well organised, etc.

I hope you don't mind me using your AusPoliticsTasks template to make PoliticsTasks - it's on the project page and will no doubt be very useful. On a similar note, would you object if I nicked your user page? I saw that you yourself made it from a format you had seen elsewhere, so I hope you don't object if I copy out the formatting. Thanks for the welcome, and again, I must thank you for getting both the Portal and Project started. At this stage, I don't think I can make any improvements on what you've already done - testament to your fine work :). Whilst I started the WikiProject Australian politics, it was organised in very large part by Ambi. The task template is a standard template, so no, I don't mind you using it at all. Nor do I mind you using my user-page format; that format was first designed by Blankfaze, and I merged a couple variants. My time being limited as it is, I don't imagine I'll be making any major contributions to politcs-related articles (and WikiProject Adelaide is my priority). However, I'll certainly be engaging in any Project discussions, and should be able to help maintain the Portal; I'm fairly involved with Portals as it is, and I created and maintain The Australia Wikiportal and The New Zealand Wikiportal (the latter I'm now less involved with). Tony Abbott's Bali hospital visit

I just wanted to clarify my reasoning for including Tony Abbott's hospital visit. I figured that a federal minister visiting a hospital at the scene of a terrorist attack, less than 24 hours after the incident, warranted inclusion as a notable response. I understand that the definition of 'response' may be the point in question; as the other responses listed are more general verbal responses to the event, not actions taken (however opportunistic).

Still, I'm not fussed if you wish to remove it. I'm not going to get my panties in a twist, especially defending Tony Abbott! :) Respekt. Cnwb 08:46, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

I don't believe I ever objected? I modeled the section on the response to the 2005 London bombings, but didn't separate Head of Government comments from others. Re: Your RFA

Thanks for your opinion but I still would like to apply to become an admin. I want a rollback button to help me remove vandalism and to be able to warn people that vandalise and if they keep doing it ban them.

I would also like to suggest a ban from editing pages for people that after a warning continue to vandalise, If there is not already one.

Aircraft specs policy

Several weeks ago, you voted in the WikiProject Aircraft Specifications Survey. One of the results of the survey was that the specifications for the various aircraft articles will now be displayed using a template. Ericg and I have just finished developing that template; a lengthier bulletin can be found on the WT:Air talkpage. Naturally, we will need to begin a drive to update the aircraft articles. However, several topics in the survey did reach establish consensus, and they need to be resolved before we implement the template. It is crticial that we make some conclusion, so that updating of the specs can resume as soon as possible. You can take part in the discussions here. Locator Maps

Hi Cyberjunkie, I have uploaded some more minor city locator maps, and state locators in a matching style. I think there might be some arguments about changing from the existing state locators, as the existing bitmap ones must have been a lot of fidly work to put together. Anyway if you are keen to roll out the Australian City info box, you might find the extra locators useful.

Infobox

Hi, do you have any idea how to make a field in an infobox optional? For example I want to be able to leave out daylight savings time from the city box for Darwin. Thanks. --nixie 03:18, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

AFAIK, it is possible to create a "free label" or a blank parameter, but that wouldn't be possible for the DST thing because that's part of an existing parameter. That's partly the reason I held off from adding the infobox to non-DST cities. However, I looked at non-DST countries using Infobox Country, and saw that they just wrote not observed and figured it a reasonable compromise. Is that okay? We could always just simplify the time zone parameter and remove DST altogether. I've gone ahead and added it to all capital cities, and will probably roll it out to major regional cities like Newcastle and Geelong. By the way, thank you for your support in my Rfa! Hello. Firstly, you'd do well to read and follow our Wikiquette and civility policies. I'm afraid there was nothing about that article that was appropriate for an encyclopædia, and it was accordingly deleted. To avoid having articles deleted, make sure you understand what is and isn't appropriate on Wikipedia. Popups tool

Congratulations on being made an admin! I thought you might like to know of a javascript tool that may help in your editing by giving easy access to many admin features. It's described at Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. The quick version of the installation procedure for admins is to paste the following into User:CJ/Archive 5/monobook.js:

Well, no surprises there. I've now installed IE thanks to wine so may be in a position to help. If you can reproduce haphazard behaviour semi-reliably, please tell me how and I'll see if I can too and try to fix it. Self bios

Gday have been doing random searches recently and have noticed quite a few not wiki arts - usually read like self bios. What's your opinion of what a non admin person like myself do? I have asked ambi as well, so I am hoping i might get a message back over this weekend. Royal Gibraltar Police

Hi Cyberjunkie, Ecemaml is an obsessive bigoted individual who appears to have a chip on his shoulder and an inferiority complex over Gibraltar. He has repeatedly vandalised the Gibraltar page in Spanish WP, and has ganged up with a few like minded spaniards to actually block the whole of Gibraltar from WP.es

He knows that he is abusing his position there, and is using the Gibraltar article to spout lies and propaganda about Gibraltar, which as you will understand is extremely offensive to the people of Gibraltar. The article is heavily POV, and there is a conspiracy to keep it that way. If he wishes to engage in Gibraltar bashing he should find another forum. This is not the place for that. There is no copyright on the article in question and he knows this, and is unable to prove otherwise. This is just another skirmish in his anti-Gibraltar campaign. I'm not interested in becoming involved in the conflict between the two of you. I will, however, tell you that being uncivil and violating policy is not going to help your case. There are a variety of ways in which you can resolve disputes, so the two of you should explore some of them. Most importantly, to avoid escalating the situation, remember to always remain civil and assume good faith (even if the latter is particularly difficult for you). With regards to Royal Gibraltar Police, the copy-vio notice should remain until it has been verified. Brisbane Coastal pages?

By the way I'm spending lots of time in Brisbane again very soon and I'm rally interested in adding to pages for the row of sand islands along the coast there, Stradbroke/Nth Stradbroke/Moreton Island, and perhaps Moreton Bay. I intend to go there and do heaps more photography etc, but info on camping and geology, flora and fauna would be good, i havent even checked yet but what categories are there for Australia for those topics? The only relevant categories I can think of are Category:Geography of Queensland and Category:Brisbane. There is also Category:Islands of Australia and Category:Beaches of Australia. Hi, I am not sure that the screenshots you have been uploading count as "fair use". Hi, I've answering your question here, I hardly ever go to RFA, so don't know where to put it, you can paste it there if you know where it's supposed to go.

I only speak of my own experience and that which is on the FAC page. In his reply to question 3 he lists two cases both unresolved which seem to have similarities to my experience, an editor walks out (I did that), and another accuses him of introducing inaccuracies, but that was medical, so architecture is less important, no one is going to die from confusing a staircase with a wall (well I suppose the could), but I felt he wanted to alter the balance, quality, and emphasis,of the page so perhaps there are similarities there. You must decide that for yourself. I have not stalked his edits, so really you'll have to form your own opinion, as to if he is bombastic, I certainly felt he was. User Gibraltarian

Hi Cyberjunkie. I'd like to know which is the procedure to "denounce" user Gibraltarian. You can see what I consider not fair in http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Spain&action=history and http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=History_of_Gibraltar&action=history. From my point of view, Gibraltarian is removing factual information and trying to present one side of the dispute as it was the truth. He goes on being rude ("Ecemaml go away" or "Removed irrelevant & incorrect nonsense") without any attempt to discuss disagreements in relevant talk pages. I could be wrong and being biased myself. Railways on Adelaide colours

Cyberjunkie, I dislike the way the colours are on the railway lines in Railways in Adelaide for two reasons. I didn't undo it as you said you'd come back to it. Firstly, colouring the text of the wikilink hides whether there's actually an article behind it. Perhaps write the name of the colour after the link to the line, and colour that? Not sure how they do it for other cities. Secondly, have you got the right colours? I thought the Gawler Line was blue. Americanised dates

G'day Cyberjunkie,

I notice you changed (amongst other things) a date formatted as 2005-11-01 in order to "de-Americanise dates". It doesn't bother me one way or another (my preferences change all dates displayed to 1 November 2005 anyway), but I thought I'd point out that yyyy-mm-dd is not American. It's an international format, and (as I understand it) the idea is to stop people getting confused 'cos of the silly way Americans write dates.

The reason I personally tend to write yyyy-mm-dd because I have a nasty habit of transposing digits when writing dates, or of accidentally entering the wrong number (e.g. I think a typo of mine once resulted in readers thinking the Eureka Flag was created in the 20th century). By using an unfamiliar format I'm forced to take more care, and thus don't make that mistake as often.

Of course, if dates are properly wikified, it shouldn't matter (though there are exceptions). And, um, I've forgotten why I'm writing this now. But I had a reason, once, so it may be worthwhile to click "save". Um. --fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 07:37, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Current events in Australia and New Zealand

Since you're on wikibreak, I took the liberty of archiving this to October 2005 in Australia and New Zealand. I also fixed the current events template for the archive (but didn't bother going back to earlier months) set up redirects for November 2005 in Australia and New Zealand and December 2005 in Australia and New Zealand so the current events template doesn't show redlinks.

I archived by cut and paste, as recommended in Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page, but I see that you normally moved the current page to the archive and then adjusted the result. The advantage of doing it my way is that people's watchlists don't unexpectedly get a new entry; the advantage of doing it your way is that the history goes with the archive and doesn't stay on the current page. WikiProject Politics

I've put a notice on the Project page to suggest the Project be closed down. Shortly after starting it up I was away for over a month, and on returning realised that it's just too broad - looking at some of the more successful projects, they all focus on a narrow area were WP's content was significantly lacking and would therefore benefit from a concerted collaborative effort.

I do, however, intend to maintain the Portal and keep it updated. If you would like to help with this, drop a note at the Portal talkpage (or mine). I would like to set up a notice board of sorts to organise the efforts of those who want to keep the Portal going - apart from regularly showcasing new content and the news, those involved with the Portal can still help with things like voting for FA status and so forth, so it'd be good if you want to help out in this area. i'm the contributor who recently changed the australia page to say that australia was not a continent. i am perfectly aware that it is commonly considered as a continent in australia but if you think about it, it doesn't really make sense and i at least in europe it isn't considered a continent at all. in fact, if you look at it, a continent is a vast stretch of land + a few islands around it. does this make australia + tasmania and a few other australian islands around it a continent? what happens to the other islands of oceania? are they another continent? why can't new zealand be considered a continent too then? or in that logic, what about madagascar? or the uk + ireland ? why aren't they continents too?

on the (french) "continent" page, australia isn't considered a continent. and on the "océanie" page it is considered as a part of this continent.

anyway, i don't know if you contributed largely to the english "australia" article (i guess there's a good chance you did though) but if you did, thanks a lot. you may have realised that the french article is looks a lot like the english one, that's cause it's a translation (which has a bit grown since though). i was the one who did it, having realised how poor the french article was. anyway, thanks a lot cause it's a good article and it saved me a hell of a time having all that well-built information at hand.

Hello! I hope you're well and enjoying your wikibreak (?). Thanks for fixing the Canada portal formatting; the thing I most hate are potentially arbitrary edits to rectify formatting ... and, of course, I have erroneously done this, too!

Of more substance, thanks for your prior vote to include the HDI in the country infobox/template. Things are moving: a discussion is well underway to finalise the precise arrangement and data so that this can be implemented. If you've already indicated a preference or have another, please comment there (and forgive me if you might have indicated to me previously your inability to comment further). I'm hopeful to close out this discussion in the next week (as a consensus seems to be forming) and to add the data to the relevant articles. If you are so compelled, weigh in ... or consider adding some data soon!

Snowtown and Wolf Creek

Why did you delete the reference to the Snowtown murders in the Wolf Creek movie spiel? The movie producers have said that it is based on 3 sets of murders, primarily focussed on the one in 1999. That can only mean Snowtown. It can't be the backpacker murders, because they were done in 1992 and before then (I think the first of them may have been in 1988 or something). You didn't give any explanation for why you were deleting it. Do you dispute the factual accuracy of it? Is it because it is only a logical conclusion that it must be based on the Snowtown murders, since no other major murder was committed in 1999? I dispute the assertion that it is primarily based on the backpacker murders. A large number of media outlets have similarly disputed it, because the person in Wolf Creek did not act in any way similar to how Ivan Milat is supposed to have acted. He tortured people and such. That is what happened in the Snowtown murders, and nowhere else. It can't be anything else. Please can you restore the edits. I am writing here to avoid an edit war. P.S. Sorry I didn't use an edit summary (I'm on Wikibreak and am thus lazy), and thank you for contacting me. I removed it because, whereas the producers have actually acknowledged the influence of backpacker murders and Falconio, Snowtown is pure speculation and considerably doubtful. But you are right that it wasn't primarily based on any particular incident. If you can provide a valid reference indicating the influence of Snowtown, then I'm not opposed to its mention in Wolf Creek.
