Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Doggo375, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Town Hall railway station, Melbourne have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 06:42, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Taylors Hill Village moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Taylors Hill Village, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ~ Amkgp 10:33, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Emmaus Animals Football Club[edit]

Hello Doggo375,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Emmaus Animals Football Club for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly indicate why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

No probs, I personally hate the DOB policy, but I hate scammers who might use it against someone even greater. Keep up the good work! My knowledge of Rugby (any code) is awful, and eventually I want to rectify that. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 03:15, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Saturday Football League requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, society, or group that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Your draft article, Draft:Taylors Hill Village[edit]

Hello, Doggo375. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Taylors Hill Village".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Notice

The article Merrifield, Victoria has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Completely false - Council conducted consultation but suburb never gazetted

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:00, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

AFL/AFLW player article start format[edit]

Hey there – hope you're doing well. Just wanted to firstly say thanks for starting up some more AFLW player articles; I think with the new notability guidelines and everyone just being busy with life in general (I know I certainly have been) – or perhaps it's just the time of the year – there are a lot more redlinks to this point of the season than normal, so it's nice to see that change a little bit. In the future, though, if you could please use the format that I implemented at Steph Wales when starting player articles (down to what's linked and what's not, where things are placed, how sections are formatted, etc.) so that we can try and make the updated format a bit more widespread, that would be awesome – this definitely needs an update. Let me know if you wanted to outline any of the changes and potentially discuss them – thanks! 4TheWynne (talk contribs) 01:54, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@4TheWynne: First of all, just wanted to thank you for the edits to the article, I'm still a bit fuzzy on certain things like external links and the like, so I appreciate the help there. With the format you've implemented, I am more than happy to start using that, I'll update my template page when I get the chance - it's a shame seeing so many redlinks around, so I thought it was the least I could to to get back to a little bit of editing. Just one thing with the template - if it's a player such as Tahlia Gillard, who has only obtained a sole achievement of a Rising Star nomination or the such, is it necessary to include a whole Honours and Achievements section when it can be more concisely summarised in the football section, or the infobox? Apart from that though, looks awesome, and I'll get to using it soon! Cheers, Doggo375 (talk) 01:44, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome – sounds good. Yes, I would say include the honours and achievements section, even if only for one honour (though only include the subheadings if there's at least one under team and one under individual – if there's only one type, lose the subheading altogether). 4TheWynne (talk contribs) 14:38, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@4TheWynne: With one where it is just one honour, would I put a dot point? Or just incorporate it into the body text of the 'AFL Women's' section? Cheers, Doggo375 (talk) 21:05, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ideally do both, but yes, I would include the single dot point in the honours section regardless. 4TheWynne (talk contribs) 01:23, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey again – thanks for creating another article. I know you were just at the page then, but please take note of all of the formatting changes and other fixes I made at the Ella Roberts article, as you're still making some of the same mistakes as before; thanks. 4TheWynne (talk contribs) 05:04, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey mate, despite some minor referencing issues and perhaps not as much detail in the infobox as needed (originalteam parameter and such), I can't particularly see any major flaws I'm making with my articles, I'm more than happy to follow along but there's probably not a huge need to ping unless I've properly got things muddled up, in which case feel free.
