closing of commands[edit]

re the closing of commands and fonts, etc the problem is not that people aren't closing things. It is that Wikipedia yet again is screwing up and already closed commands that have worked for months have suddenly been screwed up by some glitch in the system. It happened to me some months ago. I had no idea why because I had changed nothing and everything had worked correctly with the same commands before. Eventually I found that the problem was with WP and not me. It was raised with the village pump. It turned out some bot had screwed up. It had to be undone and suddenly everything worked again. If you find this problem is happening again, let the experts at the pump know. No doubt some bot has fucked up again and individual users, to their puzzlement, are finding themselves accused of not closing commands when they are all entered correctly. Om-Com[edit]

Looks like Terence took care of this while I was offline, but yeah — The Shooting Scripts doesn't say anything about what Om-Com is short for. But as you say, TD10's theory is plausible this time. Hey[edit]

Thanks for tweaking my rewrite of the Nightmare on elm street page. I still have a lot to add to it when I have time. Just look over everything, and please tweak it with my blessing. I'm going to continue to edit some of the horror and music pages, please look over the edits I did on the Samhain(band) page. I'm still getting used to the wikipedia writing style, so sorry about some of the mistakes.

You see? We have something in common. One of my grandpas was Polish too and I also hate it when people treat me as if I were a Pole and not Halibutt. Regards Halibutt 03:04, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. WikiThanks.
Thanks. WikiThanks.
I would like to express my thanks to all the people who took part in my (failed) RfA voting. I was both surprised and delighted about the amount of support votes and all the kind words! I was also surprised by the amount of people who stated clearly that they do care, be it by voting in for or against my candidacy. That's what Wiki community is about and I'm really pleased to see that it works.
As my RfA voting failed with 71% support, I don't plan to reapply for adminship any more. However, I hope I might still be of some help to the community. Cheers! Halibutt 05:10, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Norse mythology naming proposal[edit]

Hi, Haukurth. I'd like to vote at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Norse mythology), but I'm a little unclear on a couple things: under this proposal, for example, would Thor stay where it is, but with a redirect from the 13th century names, or the other way around? Thanks.--Sean|Black 02:43, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The article on Thor would indeed stay where it is - with redirects from the original Old Norse form "Þórr" and other anglicized forms. Less known names, like Veðrfölnir and Eikþyrnir would be listed under the Old Norse spelling with redirects from all anglicized forms and with the anglicized forms listed in the article. - Haukur Þorgeirsson 10:16, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • OK, here's a list of game specific items:
    • Casting weaken on tree stump
    • Scar is RuneScape specific
    • Random events is very RuneScape specific - other games have yet to implement this workaround (google it)
    • Armour trimming - explicitly game specific
    • Alt-F4 scam (google it: it comes up with 3 runescape hits on the first page, and NO other games)

You're a sysop![edit]

Hi, Kyorosuke/Archive/2, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop

Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=

Re: 3RR[edit]

I was under the impression that the three-revert rule did not apply to vandalism. I regard Everyking's senseless reverts of my edit as vandalism, because I was also under the impression that he was forbidden to edit the Ashlee Simpson article for one year, because of previous vandalism and revert-wars. I have to ask, was Everyking and the other user banned for 24 hours as well? If not, why not? They are removing my edit, not the other way around. wikipediatrix 15:38, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

IIPM Page[edit]

Dear Sean,
The IIPM article has been going through a revert war for the past week or so. The reason is that the article was created as partof a slander campaign against the institute by a group pf bloggers - this was instigated by a lawsuit IIPM filed against a blogger for unsubstantiated allegations. Lets leave the legality of filing a lawsuit against a blogger aside for now, and instead focus on why Wiki is allowing itself to be used in this manner - the IIPM article is biased and has severe POV comments and uncited allegations, most from bloggers.
Thats the background behind the revert war. I read up on WIki policy, and asked a mediator to step in - Konrad West is acting as outside mediator. He too commented on how biased the article is. So thats why we've been reverting. I apologise if I broke the 3rr rule: I am aware of it and didn't mean to break it.

I reviewed the first edit Zero made on the Riots article, and I am no longer sure if it may be counted as a revert myself... Certainly a borderline case, but not a clear revert. Anyhow, could you please take a look at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/3RR#User:Ian_Pitchford? Jayjg has protected the page, but he didn't notice the 3RR violation. He was too buisy since. Again, I think it would be unnecessary to actually block Ian, just revert his edit and tell him not to do it again. --Heptor 02:16, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

129.7.35.102 (talk · contribs) is a banned user from wikipedia known as user:Enviroknot (+ many different sockpuppets).

Please see the following histories

Was blocked yesterday and is evading the ban. He is evading an arbCom ruling, a 3rr block and a block for vandalism. He has switched many IPs and is probably the worst wiki user you have ever seen ;). Look through contribs. So please reblock. Thanks --a.n.o.n.y.m t 21:40, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah edits like these [3]. Jayjg tried a range block yesterday, but this user just won't go away.--a.n.o.n.y.m t 21:44, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Sean. Fastest admin around. :-) Keep an eye on those pages though. That guy will definitely come back. Thanks --a.n.o.n.y.m t 21:48, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sean, please note the block I used just before your block. You have to block the range, not just the individual IP, or he'll get another IP. Jayjg (talk) 22:25, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RfC addition[edit]

Hi Sean, Freestylefrappe is disputing my right to add evidence to the RfC page after it was certified/endorsed [4]. Just to make sure everything's on the up-and-up, I am letting everyone who certified/endorsed the dispute summary before I made edits of the changes I made. In your case, it was just a brief summary of my evidence near the top. Obviously you're free to suggest I change what I wrote and/or withdraw your endorsement if you see fit. -- SCZenz 22:32, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
