Orphaned non-free image (Image:Flood East SL 2003 1.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Flood East SL 2003 1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aksibot 09:13, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:Ali Hassan Salameh car.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Ali Hassan Salameh car.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 18:57, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:MT-55A.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Hello Lahiru k,

Firstly, my apologies for the delay in progress on this case, as explained at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/AMG Chemmani.

I am writing to you because, as a party to this case, your input is required before mediation can begin, to do with an offer by an experienced non-Committee member to mediate. Please see the Parties' agreement to Tariqabjotu's offer section and provide your input, so that this case can progress. Voting will remain open for seven days, and further elaboration is provided at that link.

For the Mediation Committee, Daniel 04:06, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The mediation process, starting with opening statements, has begun on Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/AMG Chemmani. If you do not have the page watchlisted, I would recommend you add it to your watchlist when you get the chance. I probably won't be notifying each involved editor at every step, and the talk page should be quite active over the course of the mediation. Thanks again for waiting. -- tariqabjotu 22:49, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:20070105_p110.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:20070105_p110.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 12:52, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you revert the edits on the Ethiopia history page? Which are hardly the result of careful NPOV work? Why did you delete sourced material? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zeragito (talkcontribs)

Theres no point of modifying the article as like this. If you think Ethiopia article is not goes with WP:NPOV then place the {{POV}} on top of the article and save it. SLAF ensign

Machan shouldn't this have the green and orange stripes on the flag as well?

Image:Ensign_of_the_Sri_Lanka_Air_Force.svg

The June 18th version has the stripes but the editor has now removed them. --snowolfD4 ( talk / @ ) 20:15, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Machan I think the current version is the correct one but I will look into it tonight. As I know in 2001 the air force ensign and the crest were changed. I mean from the crest the Dharmacakra was replaced by the Coat of arms of Sri Lanka and the green and orange stripes were removed from the flag hence it's already contained in the Roundel. --♪♫ ĽąĦĩŘǔ ♫♪ walkie-talkie 04:08, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RfM for AMG Chemmani

I'm doing another update for those currently involved in the request for mediation. There are currently three compromises on the table at the moment; your comments on them would be appreciated. You are also welcome to add a compromise of your own and/or continue commenting on the starting points. -- tariqabjotu 05:17, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm providing yet another update on the mediation. A few of the editors recently involved on the mediation page appear to have come to an agreement on one of the compromises. Thus, especially as the pace of the mediation has slowed, I have posted a possible resolution that echoes the sentiment of the quick agreement. Please post a statement of agreement or disagreement to the resolution as soon as you are able, preferably within the next five (or seven) days. If after a reasonable period of time there is a general consensus on the resolution, the request for mediation may be closed (even if a few of the parties have not posted their statements). -- tariqabjotu 17:08, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I read that you are accused of being a coward. I don't see you as a coward though, more as a person that strives to build a reliable encyclopedia, based on well researched material. You have deleted stuff from the LTTE page without any discussion. Multiple users believe that stuff should be in the article. Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Sri Lankan Civil War

I was holding off further discussion in this mediation until the outcome of the deletion debate on Commons. Given that the image that was the subject of the dispute has now been deleted due to copyright issues, is there any reason to keep this mediation open? If none of the parties express a wish to continue with the process, I will close the mediation in a few days. WjBscribe 01:35, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In reply to your comment on the mediation page, we need to have something to discuss - the fact that someone might upload the image in future seems rather remote to have the discussion now rather than later. If you or someone else are in a position to reupload this image we'd have something to talk about, but at the moment it seems that a lot of time would be spent on a discussion that would be academic. In particular, when the image was ultimately uploaded - what if the particants were different (people come and go from Wikipedia). Those who hadn't taken part in this mediation would understandably not wish to be bound by it and would probably want to revive the discussion. Which is why I wanted to know if people thought it was worth continuing in the circumstances. WjBscribe 18:45, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! It was not seven hours straight, though, I did take long breaks... I just noticed, that the article count for WikiProject Sri Lanka appeared to be a bit neglected, and not even Murali is "officially" covered by the WP Sri Lanka. On paper, even WikiProject SpongeBob SquarePants (of all things, good heavens!) is four times bigger than WP Sri Lanka. There are plenty of articles and plenty of activity, but it's not really connected to the project at the moment. I'm going to keep tagging articles, and I think the categories are not applied systematically and consistently to towns - I rather suspect there are relatively many articles still uncategorized (that's how I found myself messing around Sri Lanka, by following uncategorized articles). Vandalism

I received a message from you claiming that edits I made were "unproductive" and appeared to be vandalism. Can you please elaborate? The only edits I made during the time period in question were some minor corrections to an article about evil henchmen in James Bond films. For instance, I changed the word "cologne" to the word "aftershave" -- which is, I believe, the term used in the script. If making such minor corrections constitutes vandalism in your mind, I suppose we must have pretty different ideas of what that term means. 68.49.37.138 05:44, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Matt[reply]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Czech RM70 056.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 19:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Argument about 33 countries

Hi Machan,

I am criticizing the following statement of "Watchdogb" user.

"the world" Last I check there was over 100 countries. So 33/100 is only 1/3 of world. Thus they are not "terrorists".

The 33 countries designated the LTTE as a terrorist group, most of them which has diplomatic relations with government of Sri Lanka. Other countries do not have diplomatic ties, and then they are not bothering about LTTE. So, his argument is baseless.

Thanks,

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Czech RM70 02.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Czech RM70 02.jpg.

{{helpme}} I also need help regarding protecting the Sinhala Slangs article from vandalism. This article is being constantly vandalised. Especially due to the nature of the article, there are so many people who oppose the contents and there are so many who want to jump in the bandwagon and unload their thoughts. Article is being vandalized by both parties. Ritigala Jayasena 10:25, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help to save the Sinhala Slang article. Please give our thoughts at Delete Talk Page. I beleive referances can be found and will be included in the article. Scholarly articles on Sinhala language is anyway rare on the net, and I do not agree on making it an excuse to delete the article. The native speakers of Sinhala knows that this is an accurate list of Sinhala slang. The only reason that I can think of that a native speaker of Sinhala opposes this article, is the awakwardness of seeing Sinhala profanity in print (which they are not used to), If the offending section is only the profanity, perhaps we should get rid of only that section. I also have doubts why Sri Lankan Tamil slang has only recived an warning and not recomended for deletion. The article Sri Lankan Tamil slang does not have any more referances than Sinhala Slang, and only differance is that it is not being honest about it in "Referances" section like Sinhala Slang. Ritigala Jayasena 14:49, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lahiru, thank you for your support on Sinhala Slang. It is now deleted and I am not going to campaign for undeletion as I also agree that there are two major issues with it. Fair use rationale for Image:WOll_MBP_Guna.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:WOll_MBP_Guna.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. I would like to thank you for your participation in my successful RfA, which passed with a tally of (44/10/5)[1]. Whether you supported, opposed or were neutral in my RfA, I appreciate your participation and I hope that we can continue to work together to build a stronger and better Wikipedia.

Would you mind add some references of the Inter-service decorations of the United States military?

SR Insignia

It's in your sandbox as you requested. Commons images are showing through right now, but don't rely on them, as they will be nominated for deletion shortly. I hated to delete that nice looking article, by the way, but even if the insignia themselves are not copyrighted (and I'm not saying they're not, but even if), the images made by that website are. Good luck with the article! -- But|seriously|folks  07:14, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking about that before. One problem with using somebody else's image as fair use (actually, Wikipedia's non-free content policy) is going to be the argument that it could be replaced with an image created by the uploader and released under a free license. (WP:NFCC#1) Another problem could be WP:NFCC#8, but I would argue that there's no way to convey an understanding of the insignia without showing it. Someone will probably argue that non-free images are rarely permitted in galleries and lists, but I think this might be one of the rare cases where it should be allowed. You can always ask the folks that hang out at Wikipedia:Fair use review for an opinion. -- But|seriously|folks  08:02, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Lieutenant_general_SLA.gif

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Lieutenant_general_SLA.gif. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  But|seriously|folks  18:51, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
