Just renamed it as the Sponsors would like capital F instead of lower case! 2001atlas10 08:15, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Ok, will do next time, i'm not to sure where the move button is though? 2001atlas10 08:33, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

I see it now!2001atlas10 08:33, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm not all that familiar with Australian hockey, but is this really a speedy candidate? The article says that Boyce has "represented the Club more than 50 times at 1st Grade level, and played in Premiership teams in 2002, 2004" as well as representing his state at "underage and open level". Loganberry (Talk) 15:15, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Steve is possibly the better players of the 3 Boyce brothers, he is also the youngest, unfirunately injury has prevented him from playing since early 2005! 2001atlas10 08:15, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

WAY79

Looks that way, doesn't it. The image was scanned and emailed to me by an anonymous Wikipedian. If said anon is reading this, he might like to tell me where it came from so that it doesn't get one of those irritating and pointless no source tags. Hesperian 04:05, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

No worries :) Marmion is an exceptional case - I'm struggling to think of another Perth primary school that would meet notability, and Marmion's reasons for doing so have very little to do with the school itself and more with the context and planning - I'm working on a series of articles for development in northern Perth, especially related to the Hamersley, Mirrabooka, Whitford, Mullaloo and Joondalup schemes with reference to an entirely separate one in Sorrento/Marmion which to some extent related to the Hamersley scheme. It may be after I've finished those that the Marmion school will be better suited to a paragraph in one of those and can then simply be merged. Orderinchaos 07:18, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

There's a funny story in there actually - basically a case of the planners thinking things would go one way, then events taking a very different turn as they do (coastal development would have made more sense but the bits east of the freeway got built first, then extended (slowly) westwards from that)... By the time the development hit the coast again it was coming south from Mullaloo, not north from Marmion, and the entire "Marmion city centre" plan had to be scrapped. The area, instead of home to Australia's largest shopping complex and skyscrapers, now houses a McDonalds (Marmion/Burragah in Duncraig) and an old people's home, I believe... Orderinchaos 07:29, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi Moondyne. Why was this tagged as advertising? The article's subject is a company, but what was considered inappropriate content? It is properly referenced and (as far as I believe) written in NPOV. Posted this to the article talk page. Thanks. Bren talk 10:56, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

This article is not self-promotion as I do not work for the company and are completely independant from them. Links to the news sites The Age, Fox News, and the Channel 10 News clip are not for advertising; I was citing what I believe to be legitimate sources. The company is an internationally recognised fashion brand, particularly ouside Aus. Bren talk 13:05, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
No probs will wait for the 3rd party on this one. Bren talk 13:26, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't look right in certain px's why is that? have a look at it here Cricket World Cup. It looks deformed kind of. I don't know why though, I am going to revert it back because I don't know what is the problem there but it's totally fine if you want the cropped version after figuring out how to fix it. For now I'm reverting it back, is that ok?--THUGCHILDz 06:49, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Can you crop this picture- Image:Mello.jpg so it just Mello, Also could you upload it up to wikimedea too- [1]--THUGCHILDz 08:22, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

hey i got this picture but i don't know if we could use it. Can you see if i did this right?--THUGCHILDz 06:22, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Could we use this picture if I asked for permission? What's the policy of using pictures of newspaper? Would it have to be fair use?--THUGCHILDz 04:05, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Isn't it like the screen shots, though?

Also I just got permission to use this picture on wikimedia but the question is, can I upload it there? Since last time I uploaded a trophy picture there, I was told that I couldn't upload trophy pictures in wikimedia as the trophies were still copyrighted, etc. But then I read some excuses such as it's ok because of freedom of panorama and the trophies being at public places etc to keep other pictures. So my question is can we find any legitimate excuse for it to be there? The picture was taken in Lords, England. I'm not sure because I'm not aware of the laws of England. If you're wondering, I'm just on a picture hunt and trying to get permission for pictures, so if you're looking for any just let me know :)--THUGCHILDz 06:02, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

I have emailed the website and asked if we could use it on wikimedia commons. I got a reply from the owner of the website saying thanks for not just taking the picture and "That's fine to use to use it with a link to Cricket Web." But can we upload it to commons?--THUGCHILDz 03:13, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks.--THUGCHILDz 03:55, 3 May 2007 (UTC) I'm so so sorry to be bothering you so much but I don't want to mess up and still am still confused, can you look at Commons:Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Commons:Freedom of panorama#United Kingdom and see if that would be ok to be in commons?--THUGCHILDz 04:03, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Well yeah I know, and I'm going to forward that email with the permission to the wikimedia foundation but I was just making sure it wasn't Commons:Commons:Derivative works and now that I see it's not I'm going to go ahead and do that. Thank you for your cooperation.--THUGCHILDz 04:24, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:Cricket World Cup Trophy.jpg so is that ok? If that is allowed to be on commons than why is this and this not allowed? If they are would you please upload it onto there.--THUGCHILDz 06:47, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

This] basically says that a picture focusing of a copyright trophy can't be upload to commons because it's Commons:Commons:Derivative_works but Commons:Commons:Freedom of panorama should let the pictures stay as this picture stayed but I don't know about the picture that was taken in Jamaica as I have been looking at [ http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:QsTR49KqRbsJ:portal.unesco.org/culture/en/file_download.php/037203c9a35fc910a4addd57cb1f4701JamaicaCopyright%2BAct%2B1.pdf+Jamaica+Copyright+Act+of+1993&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-atheir copyright laws] and all I got from it was that the photographers has the copyright which we acquired but I don't know what's the deal with their freedom of panorama since the trophy itself is copyrighted from UK. But one thing for sure- the old trophy should be ok since that was taken from England which gives it freedom of panorama.--THUGCHILDz 04:56, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Update on cricket vandal

Hi there. Re. this incident earlier, just to let you know that the Cambridge U. vandal has now been identified by the college so hopefully, User:Crickettragic will no longer have to suffer harassment. Thanks for helping out! :) - Alison 11:56, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Speedy tags

I have removed the speedy deletion tags from West Leeming Primary School and South Perth Primary School as they clearly do not qualify for speedy deletion, if you thought they were, why did you not just delete them because you have sysop tools? They would probably have been restored because they are appropriate? Tellyaddict 16:41, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your advice. —Moondyne 16:48, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Why have you deleted them? They are clearly notable, you have just deleted perfectly suitable and fine articles, they do not meet the Criteria for speedy deletion, I am going to ask an admin to restore them.Tellyaddict 16:50, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
As you wish. I disagree. —Moondyne 16:51, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks still got a bit of work to do though. Hossen27 07:25, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

I have been letting hossen know that in the Indonesian project- due to having an assessment set of articles, a project and portal concurrent - talk items would get posted on one of three areas- anything you might be doing at the moment that might mean centralised and not dispersed avenues of opertion are appreciated SatuSuro 14:06, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Test cricket progression of record

I was recording results from the cricinfo scorecards and was interested about the progression of record and who was the best batsmen/bowlers at certain time periods so I was compiling it on my own. There might be a website that has that information but I couldn't find it. I am working on ODI's too but probably wont put it on wiki since I'm only at 1983 and I'll be pretty busy this summer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eggy2486 (talkcontribs)

Gotcha

Here's a gotcha for ignorant newbs like me. Back in August last year, I moved Swan River, Western Australia to Swan River (Western Australia), then used AWB to bypass the redirect. Having just cleaned up my watchlist, and not wanting it polluted by a whole pile of uninteresting articles whose only redeeming feature was a link to our river article, I unselected the "add articles I edit to my watchlist" checkbox in ABW. I have only just discovered today, eight months later, that by doing so, I actually removed from my watchlist any number of important articles like Swan River Colony, History of Western Australia and Perth, Western Australia, plus a whole lot of articles I created myself and thought I was watching. :-( Hesperian 00:34, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

cough cough splutter you have 8,160 pages on your watchlist (excluding talk pages) beams out at me with a glear and grin, :( sigh cough cough splutter SatuSuro 01:59, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Struth!!! You clearly win (or lose depending on which way you look at it). I'm on 2,690 and reckon thats about 1000 too many to be manageable. Before last years big purge I had about 4,000. —Moondyne 02:05, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
I use to sit around 10,000 before I got ruthless. I'm currently at 5,800. And yes, that's way too many to be manageable. Purging is hard work but, and there's no way I would wipe it and start afresh. Hesperian 02:13, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

The trick is most of them are cats (not the feline) - so a 1,000 lot from the watch list at a time seems fine and manageable - so far SatuSuro 11:20, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Wikitables

Hey, ive just made several wikitbles on Sport in the Public Schools Association and was just wondering how to make them so it has two column's, instead of one. Im trying to make the page a little shorter (in terms of scrolling length). Thanks Twenty Years 04:27, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

AMH

apart from everything else, splutter, slip, slide (where did all that rain come from!), I am beginning to think the Cat:AMH should be a cat in which for instance the shipwrecks of oz should be in - what do you think? SatuSuro 12:08, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Wow - see SS Loongana as a good example - surely the cats as they are there - and the amh cat - how would you cleanup there for instance? SatuSuro 12:22, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Also we might have had this conversation somewhere in the last year or so - surely the Port of Freo and or the authority need an art quite sep from the main freo art yes? SatuSuro 12:24, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Yeah maybe I should concentrate on making sub categories of the MHA first - before I trying running with the Freo Port Auhtority or the runaway NT project!  :( SatuSuro 12:32, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Dogs? ah yes. when you point that out - thats where that sub page of the project I was trying to delve into the innard of it all - off for a coffee the rain has stopped.. different tack when Im back - cheers SatuSuro 12:39, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Categories

If a person was born in one state but lived most of their adult life and died in another, is it reasonable for them to be in two categories Category:People from xxx, or should we just use the birth state ?? —Moondyne 14:00, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Short answer: Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(categories)#Residence.
Long answer: the "people from" categories use a "notable residence" semantics, meaning that a biography article should be included in a "people from" category if the subject of the biography resided there, and the fact that they resided there is notable. Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(categories)#Residence states that "the place of birth is rarely notable", but personally that is a load of utter codswallop. Place of birth is inherently notable, else why is it a key piece of information in every biography, and even included in persondata?
As always, there are grey areas: should Herbert Hoover be in Category:People from Western Australia? I should say yes, but the category would never stick while the article contains only two sentences on his time here. One of these days I'll read Hoover's millions and how he made them and the various other sources on Hoover's life on the goldfields, and update that section. And then I'll make the category stick.
Hesperian 00:28, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Welcome. BTW, your question prompted me to make a fuss on the convention talk page. Hesperian 00:39, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

One long boring day when the shed is sorted - I'm planning to do it - at least I have an excellent example template to work from! btw do you reckon the NT project looks ready to go? I'm itching to take the in process tag off SatuSuro 04:18, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

User page

Cheers, and kudos to tallkev. It won't last long though. I prefer to showcase my own work, so I'll replace it as soon as I've actually done something worth showcasing. Yesterday I created a really cool map showing the distribution of Banksia woodlands on the Swan Coastal Plain, but it turned out too tall and thin to grace my userpage.

Next time I archive I'll drop it back to three boxes: 1-10, 11-20, 21. At some point I guess I'll probably turn those userboxes into a ribbon a la my /Navigation template. Too much chrome. Hesperian 23:57, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Grieve

I was aware of his presence in your 100, and thought it my job to write it, but didn't have any sources. To my great embarrassment, it never occurred to me to search the web :-( Thanks for the link; I'll get onto it.

While we're on the subject, I've got good resources on a number of the 100. Offhand: a brief bio and the autobio of Alexander; a brief bio of Bold; ditto Brearley; a history of Bunnings; a brief bio of Samson; ditto Wardle. I'll try to muster some interest in writing some biography articles. Meanwhile, if you ever want sources for any of these, I'd be happy to scan / loan 'em.

Regarding references: "WA" is The West Australian - that would be an obituary. "Battye" is the Cyclopedia; "Crowley" is Australia's Western Third, and page 262 merely says (in the context of raising money for the unemployed during the Depression): "Typical of the times was... the very large personal donations made by such men as Charles McNess and Harry Boan."; DWA is the Dictionary of West Australians.

As usual I've given you way too much information ;-) Hesperian 13:12, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Is there any reason why I shouldn't go through and re-rate all the articles on The List as high-importance? I know people like Grieve and Boan seem unimportant, but if Armstrong's panel of historians think otherwise, who are we to argue? Hesperian 12:13, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Roger that. While we're on the subject, can I get a review of the -Class of John Forrest. This was one of my best articles back in the day, and I'm surprised to see it rated "Start". The only reason I can think of why someone would have rated it so low is because I (re)wrote it before inline citations were in vogue. Hesperian 12:20, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Few points

(1) DYK - surely youve cleared the big 4-0 by now? - and congrats on the latest
(2) I dont mean to be disruptive about the 100 silly buggers list - if I need to clarify further - please let me know - it all goes back to the conversation we hade over the long lunch i think - it might be clear to me - but maybe others need more qaulification - would appreciate the proverbial - explain more - if its not very well explained SatuSuro 12:49, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Youre so coy about the 4-0 :) SatuSuro 12:52, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Looks like Hesp is off - my last bit at the 100 - I really think the context of the west as a monopoly/establishment and the historians as constrained needs to be mentioned somehow or somewhere in the list - as my rogue argument that the more devious and controversial - participants in the states history - may have in their own way been as influential in being influential ib creating a sense of what the perth community thought about itself (the barracks arch. cook hanging, and the moratorium marches - come to mind)- has some weight, not much - but there is a potential argument - maybe a separate article on them to balance - maybe something like a scandal/rogues in wa history type thing. I dunno - still thnking about it. SatuSuro 13:18, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Not off yet; I was temporarily declining to be distracted from writing articles. Hesperian 13:43, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Cook, Burke and Bond all got a gong as I recall. Even Yagan, so the rogues are there. I don't see much likelihood of the list ever making into the article space though. Its just for discussion.

I stopped worrying about DYKcountitis a long time ago. User:ALoan has that department sorted \. See User_talk:ALoan/Archive16 for example. An amazing editor. —Moondyne 13:27, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Yup - your point about some of the rogues is a good counterpoint to my rave - thanks for that. I suppose I keep outside of the list of others dorothy hewett, k s prichard, and veronica brady - and others as well.
Your showing what Loan got up to - yup - I can understand what you are saying there. Heheh - oh well we trundle noisily on into the night SatuSuro 13:37, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

without a paddle - if you are on or able to help - please - trying to launch a boat while its still in the water or something - should have kept to tagging SatuSuro 03:09, 7 May 2007 (UTC) How typical of me - the australian literature project was in baby- whatsernames sub page - I thought cj was around - and so I launched - please give it the once over if there is anything that needs an obvious fix please - Gnanggara will be here in about an hour I can get him to do things too - and theres a possibility that cj will be back on and do a fix or two. Please dont bother if you are otherwsise but if you could give it a look - thanks SatuSuro 03:38, 7 May 2007 (UTC) Thanks for that - cheers SatuSuro 03:41, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Dictionary of Australian Biography project change reverted

Hi Moondyne, I reverted your prior edit to this project page Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/To-do/Australian Dictionary of Biography, hope that's OK. I know the redirected entries for Sherbrooke and Lee-Steere weren't on their own line, but if they have a line to themselves, the subtotals for those letters is incorrect. e.g. "S" has 51 of 97: 53% but if Steere has his own line with a see James George Lee-Steere then there would be 98 entries under "S" and people may say the stats are wrong. The sub-totals should add up to the total number of actual entries in the D.A.B., not including the see other entries. Hope that explains things. — Diverman 06:43, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Wow. Three editors at once, taking in the river views. I didn't try to merge it, but I kept my 'raw' edit if you want it. I should have put up a 'ed at work' sign. ☻ Fred|discussion|contributions 08:34, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Copyright Question

heya - thought you might be able to help me. i found an image of Xavier Herbert taken in 1938 at Picture Australia. their copyright information specifically states that photos taken before '55 are out of copyright, but the image itself is listed as "Reproduction rights owned by the State Library of New South Wales". i'm sure that i could use any number of photos under fair use, but as I prefer to find a public domain one if possible, what does "reproduction rights" actually mean in terms of Wikipedia if the copyright has expired? hope you can help. thanks baby_ifritah 13:07, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Moondyne, why did you revert the Eddie Maguire edit I did? Ithought Wikipedia was about publishing factual, unbiased articles, unaffected by subjective publicity material which the subject himself/herself puts forward?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.45.12.238 (talkcontribs)

The edit you made [3] was malformed (use the show preview button) and used an unencyclopaedic tone. It did not improve the article. —Moondyne 06:54, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Saw your effort to improve the Eddie MCGuire article, following an edit by an IP adress user. You said it was unencylopedic, however your edit was a bit messy also so I cleaned it up a little myself. Remember, assume goodwill and check your edits for errors. Thanks, Moondyne - keep up the good work. :-) Tinkstar1985 08:50, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

specifically

specifically, the "number 1 singles during the 1970s in Australia" page had a lot more work done on it and the "number-one" was an old version I started when I was still learning how to do the wikipedia webpages. Can you get the better version and substitute it for what is there now???? I don't knw hoe do do iit. i did not save a hard copy on my hard drive.

thankk you rusty201

thank you

Well that's the problem that you created when you copied and pasted the articles into new names. The next person that comes along doesn't necessarily know which is the 'good' version. The lost edits are still there in the the redirect pages edit history, so if you say you'd prefer to keep the "number 1" versions, I'll do a edit history merge. —Moondyne 13:10, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

--- I am sorry - I am new to making pages in wikipedia and I dont understand how all this works, this talk is also new to me. All the pages that were origianlly "number 1 singles " & "number 1 albums" were the most up-to date versions. thank you

Datestamp for archive bot. 13:15, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

thanks

thanks for making these changes back to the better versions and thank you for alerting me to the change in the first place, it was very kind of you. I'm new to building wikipedia pages, and I find those "wikipedia guidelines" pages a bit voluminous to wade through.

I hope you enjoy the charts pages. I added the graphics to give it a bit more colour. I also have the info for the singles of the 50s & 40s, but dunno if I'm so keen to put those in as well! I've also added the info for all the "compilation" albums that were No 1 during the 80s in Australia. I've got the 2 Kent Music Report books that go up to 1992.

What do you think about changing the "80s singles" page to the table format I've used with graphics, but keeping the editorial comments that were added? I don't know who to appraoch about that as I dont know who made it originally and I don't want to ruin someone elses hard work.

best, rusty201 in Sydney I hope this works with the four tildes: Rusty201 13:32, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

pages

Yep, the signature worked fine. Well done! I agree re changing the eighties page into table format like the seventies. (We really appreciate your hard work by the way - please keep it up). Do you still want me to merge the other decades singles articles, or was it only the seventies one that needed doing? —Moondyne 13:37, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Moondyne

there were 5 basic ideas for pages that I did:

List_of_number_1_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1960s List_of_number_1_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1970s List_of_number_1_albums_in_Australia_during_the_1960s List_of_number_1_albums_in_Australia_during_the_1970s List_of_number_1_albums_in_Australia_during_the_1980s

the best versions of ALL of these were the ones with the "number 1" in the titles. I should have deleted any "number-one" versions, but as a newcomer didn't know the etiquette. I think there were "number-one" old versions for the 2 singles ones and perhaps there were for one or two of the albums ones as well, could you check please? Thanks for reinstating the better versions

I got the table idea from the NZ number 1 chart lists. I thought the UK version (which has been used for the 80s) a bit bland. I'd be happy to re-do tables for the 80s number 1 singles with graphics, however, with permission from whoever put the original data on there. Do you know who I should approach? I've reused the templates from previous years, for years with a similar month/date numbering (except for one or two leap years)

"better versions"

When I say "better versions" - there were more links in there and I also cleaned up some of the links in the tables that didnt work in the orginal versions - even though they might look very similar. You'll know the latest versions by the fact that there were a large swag of links down the bottom to all the other Australian number one singles and albums lists under "see also" - i note for example that the 60s singles dont have that at the moment.

Pls pass any relevant info on to User:Ss112. I feel a bit helpless in that I dont know how to reinstate the versions and do the work myself, to save you the hassle. cheers Rusty201 14:06, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

images

Before you get too far advanced, you need to understand the deal here with images. Wikipedia is quite strict on only allowing free, or public domain images to be used in Wikipedia articles. In some cases, a 'fair use' claim can be made. In the case of music album covers, these are under copyright and are not free. You therefore need to tag each and every image you upload with a special tag

AND add a fair use rationale AND declare the source of the image. If you don't do this the image will be deleted in due course. I see most of the images have been already tagged as likely deletion targets.

I suggest you read Wikipedia:Non-free content for some guidance. I'm happy to help explain more if needed. You've uploaded a bundle of images so far [1] (which is great by the way, but you must now go back and sort out tagging as explained above. If you decide that you've uploaded an image which you don't want or need, let me know and I can delete it for you. —Moondyne 14:10, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

I am not sure what exactly to fill in as "fair usage" for each item, is taht the "drop down menu" with "single or album cover"....which I've filled in in most cases. I also don't want to have to reload all those images again- it took hours and hours. I was also not able to find out how to edit the details for the images I have uploaded, which is why i have uploaded several versions of some images in some cases after i got a message saying "you have not identified the source" - when I forgot to choose "single or album cover" in the drop down menu - is that what you mean when you say "fair usage"?.....this is all so confusing. I have declared the sources of the images - they are scans from record and singles covers from my collection in most cases, photos in some others. In some cases, they were already uploaded to wikipedia by other users. I don't want to delete any images: as there should be 5 images for each year of the chart in the singles and 6 for each year in the album charts, to give them some colour. I notice that many album profiles have photos of album covers and these have not been deleted. The legalese on the wikipedia guide pages just baffle users i think... How do I go back and tag images without having to upload them again? Can YOU be a fair use reviewer to these images? Again, I note that other similar album & single cover images are widely used throughout wikipedia. Please advise me if I need to fill anything in and what i need to write. Which ones are going to be deleted? What do I need to fill in, how, and where, without having to re-upload them all.

I'd hate to find them all deleted one day, it was a lot of work! This is all very confusing!

fair usage descriptions

Thanks for the above.

Can you please check that I have done this correctly - I have amended the info here (copied from the Flaming Pie.jpg template you suggested) with one image I uploaded:

If this is acceptable, I will use it as a template for all the other images I uploaded. Where can I find a list of all images I have uploaded, without having to wade through all the other edits I've done?

You will see that I have amended many other pages to add links to albums or singles that I have included, or added images, or to encourage others to write a page about a particular single that was number one in Australia etc.

Copy

I am sure I have a copy of Go set - somewhere in the cubic metres of paper here. Interesting I think Frazer deserves an article. Also evern more interesting the National LIbrary catalogue has the entry on go set with a start date but no finishing date (ie no mention of 1974) - and that is very unusual for the NLA. SatuSuro 15:18, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Sneaky buggers - the entry is deceptive - they have no ceasing date in the top lines - but in a lower line - they say library has copies - to Aug 3 1974. My mistake... SatuSuro 15:22, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Kent Music Report & Go-Set

Hi Moondyne / Sean

I see there's been some discussion on the dates for Kent music report & Go-Set dates.

I am working togehter with david Kent who is supplying me with charts for a radio show I do: http://au.geocities.com/itstimecharts/index.html

He began publishing his charts in 1974, that is true. Much later, he began to work retrospectively from 1974 back to the 1940s with archival charts from various Australian states to create retrospective Kent Music Report National Charts. These are the ones used for his book AUSTRALIAN CHART BOOK: http://www.austchartbook.com.au/ This is the source of all the number one info that I have posted. I am happy to email you jpgs of the Number one info scanned from David Kent's chart books if you give me an email address, if you'd like to sort out confusion re dates.

I have also studied Go-Set for a long time. I made a doco for ABC Radio National in 2000 on the history of Go-Set and interviewed Philip Frazer (he is now in NYC) down the line for the doco. I got permission from Ed Nimmervoll, the chart compiler to put the Go-Set charts (1966-74) online here: http://www.poparchives.com.au/gosetcharts/ It took a long time to make that website. Go Set began publication in Feb 1966. there was no national chart when it began. the Go-Set Australian national chart began in OCTOBER 1966. Go-Set ceased publication on Aug 24 1974. That was the last chart published. NLA only holds copies from 1967-Aug 3 1974 in hard copy. Microfilm copies (origianlly from State Libray of Victoria) go from Feb 66-Aug 24 74. You'll see a pic of this final edition's cover here: http://www.poparchives.com.au/gosetcharts/1974/19740824.html

Date/chart inconsistencies

Hey, Moondyne. I don't know if you've noticed (I hope I didn't sound rude saying that), but I've discovered that there is (at times, relatively serious) inconsistencies in chart issue dates. Firstly, I don't even know when the Kent Music Report was first issued. It says on the OzNet Music Chart site [4] that the first Kent Report #1 was "Suspicious Minds" by Elvis Presley, which was in January 1970, and then the Wikipedia article states that the first Report was issued in 1974 (although I noticed that it says that it was "first released on a commercial basis in July 1974"). Secondly, it seems that although the Kent Report was first established in the 70s, the Australian Chart Books David Kent has compiled dates back to the #1s from the 40s! Could you help explain this to me as it's all very weird (hope I don't sound like a WikiNewb). Thirdly, I recently learned that Rusty201 possesses these chart books and has filled the information in according to those. I also notice that the issue dates (as I mentioned before) are inconsistent. On the link to OzNet I provided earlier, it shows that "Suspicious Minds" spent 3 weeks at #1 in 1970, but obviously in the Australian Chart Books it shows that it spent 2 weeks at #1 in 1970 and 1 week in 1969 at #1. Which source is right? I notice that sites like Australian-Charts.com are a week ahead for the charts they supply, is this perhaps what is happening with OzNet? I have also recently noticed that there are weeks spent at #1 inconsistencies, such as "Hey Jude" by the Beatles. In the information that Rusty201 supplied, he wrote that it spent 13 weeks at #1 while on the ARIA Charts article it says it spent 15 weeks on the top spot, which obviously comes from the information OzNet has supplied. The same with "Money, Money, Money" by ABBA in 1976 (Rusty201's info from the chart books shows that it spent 6 weeks, while on OzNet it shows 5 weeks). I hope I'm not shifting a problem and I'm sorry for the long message, but I hope you could help clear it up with me - I'm trying to make sense of it all... Thanks if you can help. User:Ss112 08:30, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Sean, I'll reply here to keep a centralised discussion else I may get even more confused that I already am. I did write the Kent Music Report article and most of that came from the Daniel Lowe website [5] (Lowe apparently worked for Kent between '89 and '95 (Australian Music Report) ). One of the things I did notice in writing the article is that it was unclear exactly when the chart started - It did say it went commercial in July 1974 but was silent on the exact start date, so I said "early 1970's" to hedge my bets. The OZNET music chart website says the 1st Kent Report was January 1970 but, but based on your other comments about inconsistencies between that and other sources, you have to wonder. I certainly know no more about this than you but am inclined to leave the article unchanged until a more reliable source can be found. Its important that we don't perpetuate mistakes (just stating the obvious!) —Moondyne 11:41, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Moondyne,

I actually spoke to David Kent about the entry for the Kent Music report on wikipedia about 6 months ago, and he said that he was interested in possibly contributing something. You might like to invite him to do so at: davidkent@austchartbook.com.au Or at least ask him to check over what is written and see if he agrees with it. From having seen his charts first hand, I think the first chart was in May 1974. I remember that Tubular Bells was the number 1 album of the week. As mentioned, everything previous to that was "retro-calculated" in the 1990s, when he published his AUSTRALIAN CHART BOOK (1970-92), which begings in Jan 1970. This is why some sources say that his charts started in Jan 1970, as this is when that book starts. He subsequently published another book AUSTRALIAN CHART BOOK (1940-1969) which retrocalculated charts for that period. His album charts started in 1965, as nothing was available before then from any radio stations in Australia in terms of album charts. Rusty201 13:01, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I hope I didn't sound too argumentative and one-sided with you against Rusty - that wasn't my intention - I just thought that since you were talking about moving the pages to "number-one", that was how you wanted it. User:Ss112 06:12, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

names of #1 singles

Hi Sean

thanks for your message. I created a version called "number-one singles" to start off with for the 70s and then thought that "number 1 singles" was probably a better name. So there were 2 versions from the start. I was not sure if I also made other versions of the other work I did (1960s singles, 1960s albums, 1970s albums and 1980s albums) also named "number-one". As I was working on the "number 1" versions in all cases as the most up to date and can't remember if I kept on updating any "number-one" verions as I went along, this is why I panicked. I may have included or altered links along the way, which never made it onto the old versions.

I have discussed with Moondyne making a version of the List_of_number-one_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1980s as a table format (as with 1960s & 1970s versions I made) - keeping the editorial commentary already there on the page, which I'll start work on tonight. I did not know however if the original creator of the page would be too happy about having his/her page modified, and if it should be a seperete page altogether? Do you know who ceated this page (was it you or Moondyne?), can they be contacted to ask them? I'll forward this to Moondyne as well. cheers

Rusty, The original creator was User:Rossrs. I can't speak for him but would not be too worried as I know him to be a good Wikipedian. Pages get moved around in Wikipedia all the time and virtually anything you do can be undone. See WP:OWN. One of the things we should strive for is consistency in article names, particularly when the article is one of a series. I personally don't care terribly much whether we use List of number-one singles in Australia during the 1980s or List of Number 1 singles in Australia during the 1980s. That's why we have redirects. —Moondyne 11:56, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Rusty, I can speak for User:Rossrs and I say, go ahead and do what you consider best. Like Moondyne, I don't have a preference for how it's done and I think consistency is a good thing. I'm very pleased that someone is looking at the page and thinking of ways of improving it. (And Moondyne, thank you for your comment. It's like walking into a room and accidentally overhearing someone say something nice about me. I've also signed on as an interested party in the music project, although I'm not sure exactly what I can contribute.) Rossrs 14:13, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

.. and as for the link to the slander and libel page, as far as i know i live in a free world and one of the things about living in the free world is the right to freedom of speech. And i can appreciate how i could have been misinterpreted if i had posted it on the main page. But I posted it in the discussion section where i was hoping to find anyone who had similar views to me about it. Because I am one of the people who are in the same year group as the people involved in the Strippergate incident and we were all told not to tell anyone what happened under penalty of suspension.
But as i am well aware, that last sentence could be misinterpreted.
But know this, I don't have any negative feelings to you as a person/user and that I don't know why you are getting so worked up about it
So as far as i am concerned, do what you want.

Go-Set

Hi Moondyne. I had a few problems editing the Go-Set page today, due to memory problems with my browser, i suspect. I hope that all has been retored now. Apologies.

I note that the Go-Set page states that it has no source. Can the following be referenced as sources for the article?

all the info should be in there.

You may also wish to amend the link in

from Go-set to Go-Set#Go-Set_Australian_National_Charts - that being the new category I have just added. Is it appropriate to put a link to the Go-Set charts site in the newly added Go-Set#Go-Set_Australian_National_Charts section, or is that considered "advertising"?

draft version for Australian number 1 singles of 1980s

Hi Moondyne

I have spent several hours constructing a draft illustrated version of the 1980s number 1 singles in Australia in tabular format here User:Rusty201. It also attempts to take into consideration the ARIA Charts / Kent Music Report (Australian Music Report) conflict of the late 1980s, and I explain the dates conflict that Ss112 referred to. I have also (except for a few small things in the original data I am yet to add) kept the editorial content of the original page List_of_number-one_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1980s , the original page of which has not been deleted. I have also added Australian Music Report data for 1988/89, which was not in the original page.

I have put it on my profile as a draft, so that various people can look at it first as a proposal for inclusion on the List_of_number-one_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1980s page. i anticipate there would be a great hue and cry if I were to, unannounced, replace what is now there with what I have created. Can there be a link to my user profile page put on List_of_number-one_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1980s so there can be 'consultation with the public' as to its possible replacement of what is there now? What is the wikipedia protocol for this? Do I go back through the page history and contact every person who has worked on this page? regards Rusty201 03:23, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi, you prodded that article. I quite agree with his deletion, but it seems the page is linked to a a lot of pages. I think it might be a better idea to bring it to a broader audience, maybe an AfD? -- lucasbfr talk 13:30, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

I assume that you meant List of number-one albums (Australia). But I see its been deleted now so the point is moot. —Moondyne 12:43, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Woops indeed... I left the prod on purpose in case an other admin wanted to take care of it :) -- lucasbfr talk 12:50, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
