Thanks for deleting it twice now. It's been recreated again, do you think you could salt it this time? Thanks, LegoKontribsTalkM 16:43, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

As I've deleted it twice, I've asked JohnCD to have a look. Peridon (talk) 16:50, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Gone. If it comes up again, I will salt. Peridon (talk) 16:54, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

This article is a misplaced submission. It needs administrator. Could you take a look into this? Thanks. Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 10:55, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, was involved with an AfD. What's wrong with this? I might be missing something here. (Not uncommon...) Peridon (talk) 11:37, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
I didn't move it, by the way. The problem is the tag at the top of this page says,

"This is a misplaced articles for creation submission. If it is not yet ready for article space, please consider moving it to project space rather than marking it for deletion."

I saw your comment on my talk hence this comment. Why do you claim that you're involved? You've not edited that page. Don't worry I will ask someone else. Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 12:40, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
No, I wasn't involved with that - the AfD was something that was taking up time to research. I just couldn't see what needed an admin to sort out (I've never really understood Articles for Creation). Peridon (talk) 18:05, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi Peridon, thanks for your help with this page, I'm a new user and am still working my way through this process. The new draft is on my subpage. Please take a look when you get a chance.

Thanks

References. The LA Times is OK - the other two are gallery profiles and don't really count for notability. (Any gallery will profile someone they're showing - just like Amazon reviews are no good for books.) Go really independent of the subject. He must have more than just that one bit in the LAT. Article needs a bit of organising into sections with headers. Makes things far easier to read. Not always easy to do, splitting up. I was writing something once where the heroine had a page and a half of direct speech, pouring her soul out to someone. Couldn't be broken up. This can. I know you're trying to show notability, but too many blue links give an impression of desperation (having none is no better - Catch 24). Peridon (talk) 18:45, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Ask User:MelanieN to have a look too. She might have different ideas. Peridon (talk) 18:46, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Need some advice about fixing BrokenRedirects

Thanks for helping me with the speedies today. I visit the Special:BrokenRedirects page twice a week and usually I see a lot of low-hanging fruit which is easily solved by csd tagging or by actually redirecting to a valid target. I feel justified in G8 tagging a user page like User:XXX/ACME Fruit Stand when it points to a deleted target. But I often see a situation like User:XXX/sandbox which redirects to a recently deleted target, sometimes through AfC. Should I just blank such a user sandbox, or should I leave it alone, as I have done previously? Do you have an opinion, or can you point me towards one? BusterD (talk) 12:30, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

I wondered where you were getting them all from... With the sandboxes, I don't think it matters much. Although, if you just blank and they start a new article in the box, the previous history will come through. It'll only be a move, but it could be confusing in the future. Probably best to tag. See what another admin says when he/she finds it. I'd never really thought about this before. Don't know if there's a policy about it. Tag one and see what happens. Or, put one at MfD and see what people say (if anyone does - not as popular as AfD). Peridon (talk) 14:13, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
I've taken the liberty of reposting some of my request above at WT:Redirect. It's not a busy forum, but I might get feedback in that talkspace. Generally speaking, I'd prefer NOT to edit other users' default sandboxes if possible. Clearly somebody else does have an opinion, because the BrokenRedirects page cycles pretty regularly. I'll follow your suggestions. Thanks! BusterD (talk) 14:21, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Vandalism only account

Hi! Can you believe I don't know where to report an IP who is only vandalizing Operation Mockingbird? I assume this is some kid in a school library. He doesn't have an account, so I don't know how to advise him if I posted at ANI. Hope everything's great in your neck of the woods. We have no snow yet, but a little drizzle of RAIN today, in October!! Best, Yopienso (talk) 22:41, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

WP:AIV so far as I know. You need to have warned them first. I've done it now - given them a Level 3. If it happens again, give a Level 4 (there is a talk page - Jim someone has already warned once) and report 'em at AIV. We've had one frost - in September, even. Will mail you of goings on. Not tonight... Should be in bath right now. Peridon (talk) 22:56, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! I had to google "level 4 warning wikipedia." :P And I figured out I couldn't find the IP's talk page because I was on his contribution page. Thank goodness (or even God) for people who actually enjoy administrative work! It barely freezes most nights for the past few weeks here. Enjoy a nice hot toddy before retiring--it's the middle of the afternoon here, and I have to finish analyzing the 4th book of Tacitus. :( Yopienso (talk) 23:08, 4 October 2012 (UTC) P.S. First of all, not every company gets an article. It's not how big they are - it's how notable they are. That is measured here by how much coverage they have in reliable independent sources (please see WP:RS. Reliable independent sources don't include the company site, blogs, forums, wikis, AboutUs, LinkedIn, Facebook etc, YouTube etc, Twitter etc, press releases including PRWire etc, or small very local newspapers or very local online news sites. The company site is not independent (and I've seen cases where the only evidence for a 'multi-national group' was the company site). We also don't count interviews with the CEO where the questions are designed to promote the company. As I said, not all companies get articles. I remember one whose products were used by millions of people every day. But there was no coverage, and not one of their products had their name on it. They made own-brand goods for big chain stores. A lot of software companies fail the notability requirement because they are not known outside their customers. Wikipedia is a place that records the notable. It's an encyclopaedia, not a directory. We don't record the unknown, or the up and coming. We record the arrived (anf the past it...). To get an article, first read WP:CORP, and look for the reliable independent sources. Then ask us to see if they do fit. But remember that this is not the place to get your business known. We don't do that. Peridon (talk) 10:55, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Peridon. You have new messages at PamD's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
We reject blogs because they are very often unreliable. Anyone can post anything - just as in Wikis and forums. That's why we don't accept Wikipedia as a reliable source, even. Wikipedia is actually very accurate because we have so many editors keeping an eye on things (and sometimes on each other too...). The subject's books can't be used to show his notability unless they themselves are shown to be notable WP:GNG. We can't ask the Academy because that would be a communication, and not a source that someone later could check on. Similarly, things that only you have can't be used because they are not checkable. We can't say to people 'You have to travel to Pakistan (or London, or Much Twittering in the Bushes) to see the source for this'. Published books about the subject (or with substantial reference to him - not just one sentence mentions) can be used as references (so long as they are published by reputable publishers and not self-published at places like lulu, XLibris, CreateSpace etc, or only available on Kindle). I understand your frustration, but I hope you can see why we need things to be verifiable. Please look at WP:V which explains further. Peridon (talk) 11:30, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

IFIM BSchool

Hi Peridon, I represent IFIM Business School, Bangalore and would like to understand the reason for the deletion of our Page IFIM BSchool, as this page had purely the contents about the information of the Institute and did not contain any Marketing related information. I would like to request you to kindly let me know as to what kind of content flow would you require within the same or can you kindly help us reviving the existing page.. Your support in the same would be highly appreciated.

Only just seen it - if people don't follow instructions to post at the bottom of the page they may be missed. No, nothing to add. Spam again. Request Undeletion of Socialworkhelper.com

I am requesting undeletion of Socialworkhelper.com. Although Socialworkhelper.com is an active social network, it also contains a free repository of resources as well as support groups for professionals and students. Additional, Socialworkhelper.com host the only live Social Work Twitter Chat in North America. Additionally, it is the only social network in the social profession that utilize mobile web 2.0 and mobile app technology. Most importantly, the technology behind this network was created by a social worker, Deona Hooper, MSW. The relevance is that it's groundbreaking in a profession that has been very conservative in incorporating technology in both policy and practice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dhooper383 (talkcontribs) 04:28, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

None of those are of especial notability to my mind. Please see WP:WEB. We are not here to help to promote things, however beneficial they might be. Articles must be referenced with reliable independent sources to prove the notability claimed (WP:RS). If you can produce references that show a reasonably wide coverage, I'll reconsider. (RS do not include own sites, Twitter, Facebook, blogs, lists, PRWire etc, AboutUs etc, wikis, one line mentions, promo interviews or set piece interviews. or directory entries. See the policy for fuller details.) If you wish, you may take the article to WP:DRV (Deletion Review). Others might think there's enough claim to pass A7 (significance), but without RS it would not pass AfD (Articles for Deletion discussion), so it's always best to aim for notability rather than significance. (These are not the same thing here.) I would also advise you to read WP:COI - conflict of interest. You seem only interested in editing about this subject and in publicising it. Your username indicates a rather close connection to the subject, too. Not forbidden, but not recommended. BTW please sign talk page posts with four ~ things, or look immediately below the edit box and click them down there. That puts your sig and a date/time stamp on, like this: Peridon (talk) 10:29, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

How as a child I embarrassed my parents [part 3 of 15]

Peridon, every time I see your username come up in discussions, I am reminded of how I horribly embarrassed my parents one time. They were visiting friends in Sydney and us kids were watching later replays of The Monster of Peladon. Once the show was over, I felt the need to make wee-wees. I politely asked my parent's hosts, "can I go your dunny?" --Shirt58 (talk) 11:33, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

King Peladon was a cousin of mine, hence the family similarity of names. Another cousin (now a respectable lawyer - if there is such a thing...) when very small was on a bus in Edinburgh with her grandmother, when all of a sudden there was a loud trickling noise. Followed by a little clear voice saying, "That's better!". At least you asked to go to the cludgie... Peridon (talk) 11:44, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Gatwick Diamond Initiative

Hi Peridon, I am writing to request reinstatement of the page created for Gatwick Diamond Initiative. This page was created by me at the request of the Executive Director of the Gatwick Diamond Initiative and was required to provide an overview of the Group. It is a business led private/public sector partnership formed to make a difference to the performance of the sub region’s economy by by working collaboratively and concentrating on critical strategic issues. It acts to bring together all the key local authorities, government agencies and private sector partners to address the economic needs of the functional economic area. It is a not for profit organisation and therefore does not benefit from advertising. As the page entry was written by the Exec Director I believe there are no copyright issues. I look forward to your response. ParagonVA Paragonva (talk) 13:09, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Ye gods. That's going back a bit - August '11. No wonder I didn't remember it. Right. Some points. First, being a non-profit or charity is no different to being a multi-national or a corner shop. Same rules. Notability must be shown, and the article must not be promotional. Promotion can and does apply to all those types, and to religions, ideas DJs, and (although I've not yet seen a case) hamsters. Doesn't have to be "Get our latest offer - buy two for the price of three!!!". Promo includes the PR department's favourite words (excellent, offering, solutions, striving, and so on ad nauseam), and other hyping up, praising, and even being enthusiastic about. See WP:NPOV about neutral point of view. Second, notability must be backed up with reliable independent sources WP:RS. You only gave the official website. Official websites are not independent, and in some cases can be highly unreliable. No blogs, forums, wikis, press releases, wordpress sites and so on can be used for notability. This lack of indicated notability would have been a second reason for deleting. Third, organisations (or people, or hamsters...) are not entitled to articles just because they exist, or because the CEO or whoever decides there should be an article about BloggsCo on Wikipedia. This is an encyclopaedia, not a directory. We do prefer that people follow our policy on conflict of interest (writing about you and yours - see WP:COI and not write about themselves and theirs. It's not forbidden. Just not recommended. Damned hard to achieve NPOV when you're really trying to give the thing a boost. Now, the future. If you can find the necessary references, bearing in mind that mentions in lists, or things like 'also present were...' are no good, then is the time to look at how other articles are written and formatted. Bear in mind that it's not the notability of companies in the area that counts. It's the notability and coverage of GDI itself as a term and organisation that counts. Then if all is going OK so far (and preferably someone's had a look at your refs), do a rewrite at User:Paragonva/DRAFT (just click it and save with something in it). Then ask for advice again. Many regulars and admins are willing to give opinions. You mightn't like them, though, but take note. OK? Over to you. Peridon (talk) 20:35, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Caring Hands undeletion request

Caring Hands Learning Centers is an educational institution which is exempt to CSD A7. --Chadwickferguson (talk) 15:56, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

My reading, and presumably that of the admin who tagged it, is that the article was about a company, Caring Hands Learning Centers. Educational institutions defines an educational institution as "a place where people of different ages gain an education, including preschools, childcare, elementary schools, and universities". It doesn't include companies that operate EIs. If the article were about your branch at Sequim, WA, it would not be liable to A7. Either way, it is still subject to our notability requirements (WP:CORP for companies, or WP:GNG for an EI) and the need for reliable independent sourcing WP:RS. If restored, it would be tagged for proposed deletion WP:PROD as showing no notability, and if you removed the prof tag without showing the necessary notability (and references), it would be taken to Articles for Deletion WP:AFD. This is not 'picking on' - this is standard procedure. Peridon (talk) 16:55, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
Hi, Peridon. Guess how "Sequim" is pronounced? My brother used to live there and is only a couple of hours from there now. (It's skwim.) Here's Chad's childcare center. I didn't see the deleted article and don't know if the center is notable, and am only interested because it's in Sequim. I thought most educational institutions were non-notable. Somewhere it says all accredited colleges and unis are but most high schools aren't and few elementary schools are. I wouldn't think a little childcare center in Sequim would be notable, though obviously an article at WP would confer some notability in the eyes of potential clients. (Clients? Parents of small children.) Yopienso (talk) 19:44, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
Hi! That ref was used in the article. I'm sorry about it, but as they only opened up in Sept 2012 there's not much chance of notability yet. High schools are usually regarded as notable unless they've changed it while I wasn't looking, but are often deleted as vandalism, spam or copyvio. Things less than that level get prodded and very few manage the notability. They can be speedied, but not A7. Our popularity as reference point does cause problems in that everyone and her hamster want to get an article. People that don't frequent here confuse us with Facebook and AboutUs, where everyone and his aardvark can have articles. I've notified Kudpung who tagged it, but he may not be around yet (he's in Thailand - we're spanning the globe on this one). I wish them luck, and in a way hope that they don't get an article - a child care centre is only likely to get one if a disaster happens. Otherwise, they go on quietly doing good work for very small people. I shouldn't actually be here tonight - but I feel too sniffly to go to the beer festival... Got fruz in Bradford yesterday. Keep warm. Peridon (talk) 20:04, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
You know, I can never even remember what PROD means, no matter how many times I look it up. "Competence required": I stay out of that little corner. :P The D is for deletion, I guess.
My granddaughters were so cute at their Halloween carnival at school in Anchorage last night. (No beer was served.) Not that I was there, but their mommy put pix on Facebook. One was a monkey, the other a bumblebee. We've been having 10-20 degree daytime temps, dipping to -10 at night. Fahrenheit, of course. The new Blaze King stove is much better than the old barrel stove, using half the firewood, so we're warm. Outside, hubby wears bunny boots and heavy Carhartts. When we say "Carhartts," we mean medium or heavy coveralls. I just dash out as briefly as possible with a light jacket!
This is Facebook, right? Yopienso (talk) 23:46, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
PROposed Deletion, I think. I find it hard to think in Fahrenheit now. We're about 10 at the moment, and it was 7 last night - Celsius, of course. The Arctic snow we were threatened with didn't materialise anywhere I've been to. Peridon (talk) 11:59, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
Caring Hands Learning Centers fails to meet requirements on several points:
  • WP:NOTYELLOW: (Wikipedia is not a general company listing site)
  • WP:A7: It is not a mainstream school and is thus not exempt from WP:A7. The article didi not make "any credible claim of significance or importance"
  • WP:ORG: The organisation "organization (commercial or otherwise)" is not "the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources". Moe specifically: Simply stated, an organization is a group of more than one person formed together for a purpose. This includes commercial and non-commercial activities, such as charitable organizations, educational institutions, hospitals, institutions, interest groups, social clubs, companies, partnerships, proprietorships, religious denominations, sects, etc. (the bolding is mine). This is about notability and overrrides A7. Being well known in a town, does not equate to encyclopedic worth, nor does mention in a local small town (pop. 6,606) newpaper.
  • WP:RS: The aticle had no reliable, independent third-party sources that would have asserted notabiliity if the article had complied with A7. Routine company registrations and school accreditations do confer importance or significance.
  • WP:GNG. The organisation has not received significant coverage.
As a long-time coordinator of WP:WPSCH and a career educator, I tend to be reasonably broad with my interpretation of policies and guidelines when applied to schools, but this doesn't even fit WP:OUTCOMES#Schools, hence not even a redirect can be considered. I hope this helps. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:20, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps the words 'educational institutions' should not be linked to their article - I assumed, as the author here seems to have done, that the definition there was the applicable one, not the little reference link after it. Or maybe there should be clarification in the A7 section of which things are included so people don't have to trudge through a WP discussion to find out... Anyway, as I say above, even if it did pass the A7 it would go later at prod or AfD. Thanks for your comments. Peridon (talk) 12:11, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

MAX MEAZZA singer/ songwriter

Hi Peridon! You recently declined a speedy deletion request (MAX MEAZZA singer/ songwriter) by me that I had tagged as "bad title" per WP:CSD#G8. I thought probably you can increase my knowledge on this issue as I many a times mess up while patrolling new pages. Thanks --SMS Talk 21:32, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

You tagged it as a redirect to a deleted or non-existent (or CSD tagged) page - the target wasn't. It's a lousy redirect, possibly qualifying as a implausible recently created one - CSD R3. 'Recently' is a matter of opinion - I've known them get speedied when 12 months old under that one. Any CSD queries, feel free to ask. CSD is a tricky area. SAF Group

I don't understand why this page has been deleted (wikipedia.org/wiki/SAF Group). This is a page I created for my company and would like to have keep it. Appreciate letting me know why the deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alijabari (talkcontribs) 17:31, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

The article was pure advertising. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a directory. Not every company gets an article here. Please see WP:CORP about notability for companies - this wasn't the reason for deletion but could equally well have been. Also please see WP:RS about the reliable independent sources needed to prove the notability. WP:SPAM tells you about our policy on advertising. Basically, it is not allowed. Our policy on neutral point of view WP:NPOV tells you about how wording should be. Things like "going the extra mile and ensure exceeding everyone’s expectations on all fronts" are acceptable in places like AboutUs, Facebook and directories, but here they very quickly get tagged for deletion. As I said, not every company gets an article. There is no 'right' to have an article, as some people think. Peridon (talk) 17:42, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
In terms of the wordings, I do understand and that can be fixed. However, when I see a couple of other local companies including (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saudi_Readymix_Concrete_Company) having their own page, how come they were permitted to have the page any my company were not? I do not think this is fare.

Alijabari (talk) 10:48, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

So far as I know, there's no policy saying we have to be fair, in that way. 8.-( There is a policy WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS which says that the existence of one article doesn't have any relevance for the existence of another article. Their article does have quite a lot of references and claims to notability. Also, it is written close enough to NPOV to pass. Yours was written in pure advertising talk, and would have been deleted no matter how notable the company was. Peridon (talk) 10:59, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
