March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to have a look at the talk page....Regards Keith-264 (talk) 07:43, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to see you around Enigma....;o)Keith-264 (talk) 13:15, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Just noticed that the dispute resolution has been closed - I'd forgotten all about it! Keith-264 (talk) 23:36, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi EnigmaMcmxc. As I'm sure you are aware, an objective admin has now reviewed the article and has also concluded that there are indeed problems with neutrality. However Keith-264 is still blocking the corrective action, despite abundant reliable sources, and is now also repeatedly reverting my neutrality tag. Are you still prepared to help with an RfC, or should this perhaps go to the NPOV Noticeboard instead? Wdford (talk) 08:44, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ah well, at least you tried....Keith-264 (talk) 23:31, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Precious four years!

18th Div

I've sorted out my distractions for the moment and am going to have another dash tomorrow morning. Out of curiosity, why do you write Cite book instead of cite book? Keith-264 (talk) 22:59, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Copy and paste job. Does the capitalization effect the template?
Again, thank you for the help on this. The detail from the British OH has really improved the understanding of the fighting in Malaya, and hope it will do the same for on Singapore Island. I have slowly been working my way through the 59th Div article, only just got around to copyediting the Normandy section. Don't suppose you have any ideas for breaking up the long piece of text for 39-44?EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 23:03, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll have a butcher's.Keith-264 (talk) 23:15, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Much appreciated! EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 23:18, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
User:Keith-264/sandbox3 there's a section on Galmanche and La Bijude in here.Keith-264 (talk) 00:16, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wo! It went from overbearing to very reasonable! Thanks! Will take a look at your sandbox when I start work on the Normandy section, cheers for that.EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 00:46, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is to let you know that the 38th (Welsh) Infantry Division article has been scheduled as today's featured article for November 26, 2017. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 26, 2017. Thanks! Ealdgyth - Talk 17:05, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Ealdgyth:, thanks for selecting the article for the front page. I have read through the main page text, and have no modifications to make or suggest.EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 17:49, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

18th Infantry Division (United Kingdom)

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article 18th Infantry Division (United Kingdom) has been completed.

This sentence appears in the lead: "The 18th Infantry Division was formed in September 1939, as a 2nd Line duplicate of the 54th (East Anglian) Infantry Division."

"2nd Line" is used here, but "second line" is used elsewhere in the Background section in a foot note, and further in the section is written as "Second Line" several times. I looked online to try to resolve this inconsistency without success. Perhaps one of your sources will help with this.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Regards,

Twofingered Typist (talk) 13:46, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Gospel according to Joslen uses the term "First Line" and "Second Line". I do not have the time today to make further edits, but will make this consistency fix as soon as possible. If you have additional questions, please let me know. I will endeavor to look over your work and thank you properly once I get the chance :) EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 23:00, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Twofingered Typist:: Looks good, thank you so much for your work on this! :) EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 00:25, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
