Putting ANK-based image gurus to work, I know it's a dumb question but I don't do images so I'm confused. Can someone [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Travellingcari&diff=cur decipher this] and tell me in English what I need to do? It's a photo I took myself of a sign that indicated a building was landmarked. I don't think the sign, since it's not a work of art, is copyright in any form. What do I need to do? ::But I can say from experience that right of panorama ("it is not an infringement of copyright to film, photograph, broadcast or make a graphic image of a building, sculpture, models for buildings or work of artistic craftsmanship if that work is permanently situated in a public place or in premises open to the public") ''doesn't'' apply in the US and you may be violating the copyright of the creator of the sign under US law. Sigh...
Keeper, I'm burnt out....I just have lost interest with Wikipedia. Its just the fact that I feel like I've done what I can do, and there just doesn't seem to be much more for me here..... I'll pop in every now and then and who knows, maybe I'll just come back and stay again for a couple of years, but for now, I think its best for me to just back away for a few. ;) Thanks for everything that you've done for me bud, and I've really grown attatced to you. I can't belive I'm actually tearing up right now.....wow, um... bye for now. DustiSPEAK!! 00:56, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Dusti. I'll miss you but I think you're making the right choice, the ones that too many don't. You recognised the signs and are walking awat or cutting back before you flame out completely. That happens to too many good editors. Best of luck in all. TCari My travels 01:59, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- That's a mature decision, Dusti, and I think when someone thinks they should leave wikipedia, that probably is what's best for them. Of course, in your case, it's a loss for the project, but your real life trumps any of that. Good luck in the future. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 13:39, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Woah! I shouldn't have started on the bottom...got some investigationifying to do here...Keeper | 76 | what's in a name? 14:16, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Keep, I'd start Wikipedia:Editor_review/Dustihowe2 here, because I have a feeling that sparked this. In hindsight, I might've been a little overzealous with my constructive criticism, and do hope that he understands the farthest thing from my intent was encouraging to take a break. It was purely a commentary on future adminship for him. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 14:19, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Dusti, I just left you an "editor review" myself on your archived talkpage. Cheers friend, Keeper | 76 | what's in a name? 14:31, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, I didn't say I was staying away forever, just backing off for a bit. I'm still around.....maybe one of those anon IP's you see floating around ;) A for fitness walking in summer school :) YAY!!! **Dusti does a happy dance** Gwynand, your criticism was appreciated and had nothing to do with my break. Mainly, its my boyfriend and some issues that he and I are having.... Cheers! DustiSPEAK!! 14:38, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, couldn't stay away as long as I wanted, just to attached to the place :) DustiSPEAK!! 15:44, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Sad baseball day
RIP Bobby Murcer. I was shocked when I heard that, mid-painting. Radio (and possibly TV) held back the announcement until Girardi could tell the team. From what I hear, he and Scooter were calling the game together. Those are the first broadcasters I remember. Back to de-paintifying! I swear it's even in my eyelashes! TCari My travels 01:56, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- It's sad when any baseball player dies. Shapiros10 contact meMy work 13:40, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

- Is it strange that I was thinking of you TCari when I heard that the other night? I don't know many Yank-fans IRL (none that I consider friends anyway). The problem with getting old is the players you idolized "as a kid" start dying, most recently for me, the best centerfielder of all time...for (most) of the stalkers, you'll understand when people like Jeter and Mauer start dying of "natural causes". Sigh, Keeper | 76 | what's in a name? 14:15, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Totally agreed re: Kirby, I rememebr him playing and was shocked when he died. Also granted Cory Lidle was an accident but still, people my age aren't supposed to die. I got cable connected yesterday and was luckily able to see/hear some of the YES tributes. I can still hear Murcer in the booth. That's how I remember him, although I think I did see him play. I think we're even -- I know a number of Vikings fans, but you're the only Twins fan. Baseball is an inherent part of the keeperpedia. TCari My travels 21:03, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Concern on oppose at RfA
Keeper (or associated talk page stalkers), I'm a bit worried about the first oppose on this RfA, which seems to be a tit-for-tat bad faith oppose based on the candidate notnow closing the opposer's RfA. Question is, should the oppose be allowed to stand? I've provided information in a neutral tone as a comment against the opposer's rationale, but should any further action be taken? Your guidance, as always, is welcome. Many thanks! Gazimoff WriteRead 16:22, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, let it stand. Looks like a perfectly legit oppose; it's not for us to second-guess the reasoning (WJB is perfectly capable of doing that when he closes it). We've had far stupider comments allowed to stand in RFAs. – iridescent 16:29, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) :If I may interject and give my opinion on the matter, editors are allowed to !vote based on any reason they deem fit. And while this definitely appears to be a tit-for-tat attempt at revenge, I believe the oppose should remain there and if the RFA ends up in the "gray area" of around 75%, the closing bureaucrat will take that into consideration. Useight (talk) 16:31, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, as a follow up question, was adding the comment with the link a valid response to the oppose? I would like to make sure I haven't been out of line or unfair. Gazimoff WriteRead 16:38, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- I wouldn't have responded at all. Voters can evaluate the RfA how they deem fit, and outside of the worst cases of bad-faith or vandalism, I don't think we should be adding such caveats below the votes. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 16:40, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- I've struck it following further information from xenocidic. it's one thing to cite a concern, it's another thing to provide potentially misleading information. Gazimoff WriteRead 17:28, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Help!
I was changing the referencing format in this article when I cocked up the last change I made and stupidly reverted myself, thereby losing everything I'd done over the last few days, as nobody else had been editing the article. Is it possible to get the last version (the one I just reverted) back again? --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 21:36, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Reverted. For future reference, if you open the old version in the history, and click "edit", then save without making any changes, it reverts to that version. – iridescent 21:39, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks iridescent, I'll keep that in mind for future reference. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 21:43, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Just a point of order, shouldn't that be "keepervention"? –xenocidic (talk) 23:40, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Wikiproject Minnesota
Hey, was wondering if you can add in the code for "C-class" to the Wikiproject Minnesota template. I already had it added for the NFL template, but noticed that Minnesota has not yet been updated. You would need to add in

below

Thanks.--Finalnight (talk) 05:44, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

RE: A gift
Why thank ya! I believe that may have been the one I was looking for, though I thought it was created by SQL. Well, regardless, thanks! Seems like the two of us have a fair few pages in common. :) GlassCobra 21:45, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- On another note, would you mind taking a look here? It's possible that I'm remembering incorrectly, but I thought I recall a whole slew of names involving Kate McAuliffe being created a while back, along with some type of vandalism, I believe. Does that ring any bells for you? GlassCobra 21:47, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Regarding this, I'm sure that there are mentions of the Kate McAuliffe vandal in the AN/I archives, but for a small taste of that particluar vandal, see the following links: [1][2][3] :) Hopefully they're of some use to you: I can't remember what archive(s) that particluar vandal was listed in, however, but I know they're somewhere. Best wishes. Acalamari 22:12, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Acalamari, would you mind posting those diffs to user talk:GlassCobra? I think eatspeaches is ripe for a block as a troll/vandal/admin page renamer. Keeper | 76 | what's in a name? 22:14, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

RfA
Sure, I'll go for it. Don't worry, I won't quit if it fails, real life office politics make wiki-drama look like tea-time. Let me know what I need to get done. And also, I am still keeping up with MN stuff, especially Twins and Vikings (training camp is almost here!) even though I have moved to NE recently. (we have no sports out here, sigh)--Finalnight (talk) 21:56, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Will start filling it out, also, I have a speedy for an already processed page pending if you could delete it for me, csd is very backlogged right now.--Finalnight (talk) 00:37, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- The only thing I see there is your "review" page - is that what you want deleted? Keeper | 76 | what's in a name? 00:41, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, its already been processed for the project (which is what it is intended for, not global consumption) and I don't want that to become a subject of debate at my RfA, especially since they gave the option to contrib anonymously but I didn't at the time. You know how people can seize upon the smallest sentence and that has a lot of them. Thanks!--Finalnight (talk) 00:43, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I saw you declined, if you think it won't be an issue, than its fine to keep. I just don't want my suggestions for improvement to be turned against me. Thats all. Will be transcluding soon, I was writing my responses while you were writing my nom. hehe.--Finalnight (talk) 00:44, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- (e/c with you)I just declined your request, I don't see how it could affect you negatively, as I found your opinions to be both valid and sincere. I'll delete it for you if you ask me again, but I really think that you're "overthinking" this. You are allowed and encouraged to have opinions, and if someone opposes you for arbitrary reasons, that's their problem, not yours. Ask me again, I'll delete it, but until then...Keeper | 76 | what's in a name? 00:45, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Sleeping on air mattress and my clothes are there. Pricing moving companies to get my stuff here. Also violated a wikilaw (although I forget which.where it is), I wrote about my own street/neighborhood. Review
Ohai Keeper. I was wondering if you would be able to review my editing like you did way back on April 25, 2008. I know your a busy man, Keeper, but I guess your extra busy per that notice on the top of your talk page. Whenever you have time would be good. I'll be patient. Please reply (and when you finish your review) on my talk page for this. Oh, and for those so called "talk page stalkers", I'd like Keeper to do this. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 01:03, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks Keeps. Completely missed that particular drama - not been very active lately, just like Pedro it seems; in fact I'm even wondering whether I am User:SockOfPedro. Still trying to work out what the on-wiki problem was with CG as he had all but stopped editing here and he had admitted openly to being Chris19910 to all of us months ago, if people had spent less time getting over-excited at ANI and instead spent 30 seconds flicking through his talk page history it would all have become clear. Looks like it's all over now, CG has gone & will no doubt be back as User:LawyerBoy or some such if and when he gets bored of winding people up on the test wikis and the whole cycle will start again. At least when he was CG we knew where he was and could keep an eye but it appears that (ANI) consensus says that driving him underground is a better approach. I've just removed some bits from my page for a few days to try and minimise traffic until I'm able to help out again, when the dreaded world of RL calms down. That user is as combattive as hell, and most of what I read from him is not positive at all, because we have discarded his suggestion. What with these kinds of wrangles and the others, involving people who seem to want wikiepdia describe counties as still being in the state they were back in 1972 before the first recent big change in boundaries, etc, I almost feel like going for a comparatively easier editing option concerning Israel and Palestine! - To be honest, I didn't understand what socker meant, but I got the impression from what I was reading that they were removing legit changes or causing some other such issue. As for indeffed, it seems pretty clear that it is indefinate as in either indefinatly removing or indefinatly banning. I've had the same issues on IRC, on forums and in games where I've had the same person keep trying to come back and cause issues and it is a pain since the Internet is so annonymous, sometimes it is great, sometimes it sucks. Ajh16 (talk) 20:58, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- At this point Ajh i'm starting to get the feeling that you are who you say you are, nevertheless, we still don't typically grant huggle to very new users (even with no suspicion of impropriety) so at this point the best thing to do would be to hack it out with twinkle for a week or two and talk to irid. –xeno (talk) 21:02, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with Irid, ajh. Enjoy wikipedia for what it is (an encyclopedia), add some good content, remove some bad content. I've still yet to use an automated tool (except one script), and I seem to get along just dandy without them. Keeper | 76 | what's in a name? 21:06, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- The big problem I have with Twinkle is that as I understand it, it doesn't get along so nice with IE. Call me crazy, but most of the time I have for checking vandalism is while I am between assignments at work and they don't have anything else for me to do and they have IE as the browser on their systems. I suppose I could install something else, but it is a lot more overhead than a stand alone executable. I suppose I can just keep going with out a script for the moment, it just bugs me that it is such a productivity hit since it is much more difficult (particularly for a new user) to get the templates right for example. One of my favorite things with Huggle is that I just have to click on the appropriate message and it takes care of linking it to the edit I am refering to. That aside, atleast with rollback I can still deal effectivly with the chain vandals without having to simply open and save an old version, which is bad since it doesn't save it as an undo. Ajh16 (talk) 21:51, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Huggle is an excellent tool, and when used well, highly effective. It is also very powerful, and in the wrong hands, can lead to needless drama. I'm afraid you'll have to be patient with us, we (meaning Iridescent and I) have been here long enough to know that it "isn't for everybody". You may end up being the best Huggler we'vve ever had, hell I don't know. But you can't have it in your first week here. Are there any interesting articles on Wikipedia that you could edit? We generally look favorably on editors that add things instead of exclusively remove things. Poke around, find some things that interest you, and make the articles better! You'll get a higher level of satisfaction out of having your contributions "stick" than you will with having your contrib list only showing that you removed other people's stuff. Again, we need vandal fighters, we're highly trafficked here. However, you will burn out quickly if you only vandal-fight, promise. Keeper | 76 | what's in a name? 21:57, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

- I can understand the whole fear of burn out but I've made quite a happy career of patrolling the trolls of the net. I don't know if I'm just a masochist or if I enjoy the glipses of stupidity and knowing that other people won't have to endure them, or perhaps it is the futile attempts by vandals to repeatadly attack a page time and time again, only to be reverted within seconds, but it is something I love to do in whatever context it may be. I also find that there are times when working through edits that I find things in need of little bits of touch up, which I also do at that time and that is a nice little way to leave a footprint beyond the change log. Wales
I just wanted to thank you for your work on Wales - it needed a totally uninvolved and unbiased person perpared to read up on it from scratch, you you clearly stood up.
I have made a 'second proposal' based your own proposal, and your support for Pureditor's two word idea. It strikes me that as COMMON NAMES clearly supports 'country', and that a citation is always needed for that, the word 'within' can now do the duty on what type of country it is.
Who knows, it may even take off elsewhere. I hope it's as 'neat' as it seems to me it is!--Matt Lewis (talk) 15:24, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'll go look over there in a bit, I'm trying to "de-Wales" myself at the moment :-). Off the bat though, I'm not sure there is a need to link country anywhere in the lead because it is a common name, so right now, I'm leaning towards Pureditor's suggestion, but I'll have a look again. Cheers, and thanks for the thanks -- Keeper ǀ 76 15:48, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- The irony was I that supported keeping the current constituent country a while back, but not because I didn't think 'country' would work - I just thought the existing 'constituent country' was the better of the two, and was irritated over my suspicions of the reasons to change it, and to keep focussing on it: it's been a two-way thing, and very frustrating. But my feelings are 'by the by' - 'country' clearly fits, and is clearly wanted: so I back it fully now.
- Country is the core article and needs to do the explaining itself - which it does. It is not misleading anyone to use it: the word 'within' now shows there is another element to it. I don't think Wikipedia should be strangled by the ISO definition of the word, anyway. Look what happened to the recently reclaimed List of national anthems - it was redirected to the ISO-only List of anthems by country! Wales and many other nations and countries suddenly had no national anthem. Not a clever period for Wikipedia.
- The core country article explains the word fully - we need to trust the cores. If we don't, look what happens?
- I just wish I put my energy into supporting country before, as it could have helped avoid a lot of unnecessary nonsense since, especially when I was out for a month. There were a couple of now-banned socks around arguing against it in the past, and there were never that many 'normal' editors so vehemently against it. I know one (GoodDay) who favoured 'constituent', like I did, will now vote with the tide just to get consensus. It has in recent months become very hard to discuss other edits on Wales (and Wales has editors who are very pro-discussion over change) - as someone who has many more improvements to make to Wales, the country/officiality issue is something I want to see behind us.
- Please also bear in mind that when we do link to the Subdivisions of the United Kingdom in some way, a merge with constituent country will occur (it has consensus and is on hold), and then a name change will be proposed at some point to Countries of the United Kingdom. Supposing it went through, I would then favour simply changing the pipe of 'within' to the new name. 'Country within' linked together is fine as an idea - but it just doesn't look good, and imo will never sit well.
- The word 'within' is 50% of the problem solved, as it shows there is a extra element to 'country' - and it has consensus - so that much so far is a real achievement.-Matt Lewis (talk) 16:51, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

- I can't speak for him, he is his own person. I found his posts to be sufficiently well reasoned, but I may not be being completely objective. Before his RfA was live, I told him RFA was brutal and ego-bruising at best, and to refrain from overposting in the oppose section (A rule I broke myself there, and apologized for in three places). In my honest and good faith opinion, some of the opposition is being incredibly nit-picky, but I've unwatchlisted the page as not willing (any longer) to continue to feed the drama in what should be a relatively low drama venue. Someday, anyway... Keeper ǀ 76 20:47, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Image help
Putting ANK-based image gurus to work, I know it's a dumb question but I don't do images so I'm confused. Can someone decipher this and tell me in English what I need to do? It's a photo I took myself of a sign that indicated a building was landmarked. I don't think the sign, since it's not a work of art, is copyright in any form. What do I need to do? Thanks! TravellingCari 21:06, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- This is the wrong forum; you need to post this at WP:AN/G. – iridescent 21:08, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- But I can say from experience that right of panorama ("it is not an infringement of copyright to film, photograph, broadcast or make a graphic image of a building, sculpture, models for buildings or work of artistic craftsmanship if that work is permanently situated in a public place or in premises open to the public") doesn't apply in the US and you may be violating the copyright of the creator of the sign under US law. Giggy will know. – iridescent 21:11, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
