Characters
*Natalia Ruiz (Lorena Rojas) - Natalia is beautiful, distinguished, intelligent, sensivitve, and humane. She studied Business Administration, but did not get her degree, in order to dedicate herself to her children, Gloria and Luis. She once believed she loved Rogelio, her husband, although in reality what she looked for in him was the image of a lost father. She loves her children, Gloria and Luis, above all things. She took refuge in the care of them for years, finding a consolation for her broken marriage. Her relationship with Ágata, her mother-in-law, was always ill-fated. As Natalia was young, Ágata manipulated her into marrying Rogelio with the aim of stripping her of the inheritance left Natalia by her parents upon their death in a tragic accident. Ágata has enslaved her for years, making her the victim of mistreatment and humilliation, and turning Gloria against her. Natalia meets Adrián, and at his side discovers what true love is. From the moment in which they meet, both comprehend that they are twin souls, and that destiny took strange paths so they could meet. However, their relationship is not easy. Everything is against her and they will have to fight in order to remain together.

*Adrián Torres (Mauricio Islas) - Adrián is very attractive, with an optimistic and happy character, noble, generous, and sincere. He is the General Manager of an important electrical appliances store in Tampa, Florida. His sympathy and good appearance help him in his business, but they also cause constant jealousy in Elena, his wife, so that his marriage with her is conflictive, plagued with bad times. Elena watches him obsessively and continually causes him to go through embarrassing situations with friends and work colleagues. Ironically, Adrián has been a faithful husband and a good father for Denisse and Alfredo, his children. He worries a lot that they are constantly witnesses to his disagreements with Elena, with whom he is convinced he will never be happy. He gives his all to save his marriage, but it is fruitless. He divorces Elena when he comprehends that she will never change her ways. He falls in love with Natalia, and helps her recover her children. He lives a great story of intense love with her upon realizing that she is the other half for which he has always yearned.

*Inés Vallejo (Catherine Siachoque) - Inés is a sensual and attractive, though somewhat vulgar woman. Hipocritical and astute, she has always wanted to be Rogelio's wife, for the advantages it presents of having a rich and supposedly easily-manipulated man at her disposal. The mistress of dissimulation, she makes Natalia believe she can trust in their friendship; the price is taking control of Rogelio and the fortune of the Mercenarios for herself. She was Rogelio's lover in the past, and supposedly they had a son, Charlie, although he is actually the son of her life-long lover, Manuel. Inés exaggerated ambition causes her to commit the worst infamies, without measuring the consequences of her actions. So long as she gets what she wants, she is capable of destroying her even her own son.

*Elena Sandoval (Sonya Smith) - Elena is an attractive, distinguished, and elegant woman. Very insecure and jealous, incapable of controlling her passions, she has turned her marriage to Adrián into a prison for him. Her explosions of fury, motivated by jealousy and extremely self-destructive, have managed to convince everyone that she is crazy, although in reality what she wants is to attract attention to herself and manipulate everyone else at her whim. She loves her children, Denisse and Alfredo, but she does not worry about them, since the only thing that interests her is to keep an obsessive watch on Adrián. Her only friend and confidante is Raquel, her mother, who does not approve of what her daughter does. Elena is not willing to lose Adrián for any reason, and Natalia becomes her greatest enemy. She will be willing to do anything to destroy Natalia and set her aside.

*Rogelio Mercenario (Ariel López Padilla) - Rogelio is a handsome man, but with very little character when sober, because once drunk --which can happen with great frequency-- he is violent and irascible. He works as a director of a newspaper owned by Ágata, his mother, who always ends up manipulating him and making him do her bidding. It was ultimately Ágata who ended up ruining his marriage with Natalia. When Natalia disappears, he agrees to let Ágata take charge of his and Natalia's children. Rogelio was Inés' love, and supposedly they had a son: Charlie. Rogelio's alcoholism comes to be an escape to try to forget that he is a puppet in the hands of his mother, who he loves intensly, and at the same time despises her with all his strength.

*Manuel (Sebastián Ligarde) - Manuel is a handsome, although ambitious, frivolous, and unscrupulous man. He is Inés' lover and the real father of Charlie. He's capable of doing anything for money. He comes to ally himself with Inés and Ágata to destroy Natalia, but when Inés and Ágata turn their backs upon him, he tries to take advantage of what he did for them. He makes himself Ágata's lover out of self-interest, but his plan backfired as Ágata is too smart to fall into his manipulations. The only thing that interests him in life is money. He has never bothered to get along well with Charlie, and he doesn't care if Charlie is his son or not.

*Ágata Mercenario (Lupita Ferrer) - Ágata is a woman who is still beautiful, but who has been dried up and turned sour-faced by the ambition to dominate everything. She has a violent and malevolent character. Astute and manipulative, she is the matriarch of the Mercenario family. She takes her personal frustrations out on Natalia. She adores Gloria, her granddaughter, in whom she sees a reflection of herself, and wants to turn [Gloria] into a her copy. When Natalia wants to free herself from Ágata's dictatorship, Ágata, together with her unconditional ally Inés, prepares a plan to destroy Natalia. She loves Rogeio, her son, but at the same time she looks down upon him, knowing him as a weak and malleable man, although there are times this weakness works out for her and suits her wishes. Ágata is capable of walking over anyone in order to achieve her purposes, and she doesn't stop for anything.

*Saúl Farrera (Carlos Humberto Camacho) - Saúl is Adrián's best friend, and he works at the same company. He is trustworthy and sure of himself. He admires Adrián, who he sees as a brother, and so he tries to help him to get through his matrimonial conflicts. An inveterate bachelor, Saúl's heart is finally conquered by Mónica, with whom he falls in love. He is an attractive man, with the air of a conqueror, sympathetic and seemingly uncomplicated, although at heart he is a little emotionally insecure, and he dreads marriage.

*Denisse Torres (Mariana Torres) - Denisse is a young woman of great beauty. She has a strong character, although she is immature and doesn't know how to distinguish between what is good and bad as the instability in her home has influenced her. However, she is intelligent, frank, and easygoing. She shares with Alfredo, her brother, a major worry over the obsessions of Elema, who seems determined to catch Adrián in an indiscretion. When her father decides to get divorced, she suffers a great deal because her mother wants her to take sides. She falls in love with Ricardo, an immature and irresponsible young man who makes her suffer. She doesn't know if she should have sexual relations with him or not, and she can't find the guidance she needs in Elena, something she later does find in Natalia. She gets married because she's pregnant, only to later understand that she as much as Ricardo are too young and immature to know how to live as a couple. Finally she manages to find the stability she so desires, and to be happy.

*Gloria Mercenario (Sofía Stamatiades) - Gloria is a young woman who inherited the beauty of her mother and the character of her grandmother. Natalia lives in fear of the closeness between Ágata and Gloria, and wants to remove Gloria from Ágata's negative influence. As Gloria is Ágata's favorite, she does what she wants with the backing of Ágata's authority. Luis, her brother, tries to moderate her without much success. She falls in love with Charlie but later discovers that it is a love that cannot be, which causes her to suffer. Her character changes over the course of the story. She comes to mature after the blows given to her by life, and she ends up understanding that her mother is a good woman, and that Natalia loves her no matter what. Her romance with Charlie ends up happy, after an endless series of setbacks which make her go through some very bitter moments.

*Luis Mercenario (Alonso Espeleta) - Luis is an attractive, serious, formal, although emotionally unstable young man, thanks to the conflicts that he lives through in his family. He adores his mother Natalia and is willing to confront his father and his grandmother to support her. He suffers a great deal when he believes Natalia has died, and receives the news that she is alive as a miracle. Upon reuniting with her, he is the first to believe in her innocence. Luis suffers from a crisis of sexual uncertainty, and this causes him great internal conflicts. Over the course of the story, after living through very difficult moments in his life, he manages to overcome all the obstacles that present themselves, to affirm himself as a human being, to accept himself as a homosexual and to be happy with what he is and what he has.

*Alfredo Torres (Jencarlos Canela) - Alfredo is a good-looking, affectionate, noble, sincere young man, a good brother and a good son. He is very affected by his parents' arguments and tries to avoid them. He views the announcement of Elena and Adrián's divorce as a personal liberation., He comes to view Natalia as a second mother, which causes him serious conflicts with Elena. He falls in love with María, and they live a tumultous love story in which everything seems to be against them, but they finally manage to get together and be happy.

*Charlie Vallejo (Roberto Plantier) - Charlie is a handsome, intelligent, distinguished and noble young man. He is Inés' son, and has no idea of the things his mother does, as he would disapprove. Inés handily manipulates him for a long time, until she is no longer able as the youth will not allow her to. He loves Gloria more than anything, and is the one who helps her to go through a real transformation. He despises the idea of being Rogelio's son, as the man represents everything Charlie rejects. He suffers a great deal upon believing that his relationship with Gloria cannot be, and he gets involved with Elsa only to try to forget the only woman he knows he can ever love.

Pecados Ajenos (The Sins of Others[1]) is a Spanish-language telenovela produced by the United States-based television network Telemundo. This limited-run series is shot in Florida by Telemundo Studios, Miami.

Pecados Ajenos replaced Amor Mio in Telemundo's 10 p.m. (ET/PT) time slot on October 8, 2007.[2] Lorena Rojas and Mauricio Islas were paired together for the first time in this saga of love, marriage, betrayal, parenthood, friendship and passion.[3]

Screenwriter Eric Vonn penned this urban melodrama set in West Palm Beach and Pompano Beach. It features star-crossed lovers who fall in love at the worst possible moment.[4] As with most of its other soap operas, the network will broadcast English subtitles as closed captions on CC3. Many scenes are shot on location in Virginia Key.[5]

Story

Natalia and Adrián are strangers who live in different cities but discover in an instant that they belong together. They were both married for over twenty years, and each has two beautiful young children. Their lives are quite similar -- and both are unhappy and frustrated.[6] Destiny brings the two together when they are each on the verge of divorce.

When the pair falls madly in love, they face opposition from Elena, Adrián's hysterical, paranoid and resentful wife, Rogelio, Natalia's alcoholic husband who humiliates her, and Inés, who envies and hates Natalia while pretending to be her friend. Meanwhile Ágata, Natalia's despotic mother-in-law, terrorizes the heroine's life and has stripped her of the fortune which she inherited from her parents. Ágata teams up with Manuel, a treacherous and ambitious villain, to plot Natalia's worst tragedy: separating her from her most beloved treasure, her children.[7]

Natalia and Adrián search for love, companionship and fulfillment on a road full of bitterness, disappointment and misunderstanding. Their story is closely related to that of their respective children. They must find love amid family conflict, jealousy and betrayal.[8]

Characters

 • Natalia Ruiz (Lorena Rojas) - Natalia is beautiful, distinguished, intelligent, sensivitve, and humane.
 • Adrián Torres (Mauricio Islas) - Adrián is very attractive, with an optimistic and happy character, noble, generous, and sincere.
 • Inés Vallejo (Catherine Siachoque) - Inés is a sensual and attractive, though somewhat vulgar woman.
 • Elena Sandoval (Sonya Smith) - Elena is an attractive, distinguished, and elegant woman.
 • Rogelio Mercenario (Ariel López Padilla) - Rogelio is a handsome man, but with very little character when sober, because once drunk --which can happen with great frequency-- he is violent and irascible.
 • Manuel (Sebastián Ligarde) - Manuel is a handsome, although ambitious, frivolous, and unscrupulous man.
 • Ágata Mercenario (Lupita Ferrer) - Ágata is a woman who is still beautiful, but who has been dried up and turned sour-faced by the ambition to dominate everything.
 • Saúl Farrera (Carlos Humberto Camacho) - Saúl is Adrián's best friend, and he works at the same company.
 • Denisse Torres (Mariana Torres) - Denisse is a young woman of great beauty.
 • Gloria Mercenario (Sofía Stamatiades) - Gloria is a young woman who inherited the beauty of her mother and the character of her grandmother.
 • Luis Mercenario (Alonso Espeleta) - Luis is an attractive, serious, formal, although emotionally unstable young man, thanks to the conflicts that he lives through in his family.
 • Alfredo Torres (Jencarlos Canela) - Alfredo is a good-looking, affectionate, noble, sincere young man, a good brother and a good son.
 • Charlie Vallejo (Roberto Plantier) - Charlie is a handsome, intelligent, distinguished and noble young man.

When Telemundo announced this project in its 2007 upfront presentation, it was titled "El Otro Lado del Amor" ("The Other Side of Love"). The network then launched promotional teasers [9] on July 2, 2007 calling the show "Pecados Ajenos". Production Notes

Pecados Ajenos title card

Filming of Pecados Ajenos was scheduled to begin in July, 2007[11], with the debut expected in August. On the set in Southwest Ranches, Florida, the crew works a 12-hour day, during which they shoot one and a half episodes' worth of scenes.[12] Locations include Davie, Wellington, Pompano Beach and Palm Beach, Florida. The series is directed by David Posada and Danny Gavidia.[13]

Product Placement

As with many telenovelas it produces in-house, Telemundo will use product placement within the show. Best Buy was to appear prominently in the show, with Adrian's son Alfredo working at one of the stores, but this has yet to air. Also, Toyota was to sponsor a 30-second replay of an important scene at the end of seven episodes. The Pledge and Windex cleaning products will also appear in various scenes. In addition, Walgreens appeared the show.[14] The debut episode aired commercial-free and sponsored by Kraft Foods' DiGiorno frozen pizzas.
