Thriller 25 is the twenty fifth anniversary edition of Thriller. In the UK, the BBFC gave Thriller 25 a "fifteen" age rating because of the "Thriller" music video, which was Jackson's first age-rated release. Jackson mentioned a "second chapter" to Thriller on Access Hollywood in late 2006, saying he would discuss it with collaborator will.i.am. Jackson served as executive producer and the album's release was announced in an Epic press release on November 30, 2007.

Over one and a half million copies of Thriller 25 were shipped in a month. In the United States, Thriller 25 was the second best-selling album of its release week, selling one hundred and sixty six thousand copies, just fourteen thousand short of reaching the number one position. It was unable to chart on the Billboard 200 due to its age, but entered the Pop Catalog Charts at number one (where it has stayed for seven weeks), with the best sales on that chart since December 1996. It also spent two weeks at number two on the Comprehensive Chart. Thriller 25

Untitled

Thriller 25 is the twenty fifth anniversary edition of Thriller. In the UK, the BBFC gave Thriller 25 a "fifteen" age rating because of the "Thriller" music video, which was Jackson's first age-rated release. Jackson mentioned a "second chapter" to Thriller on Access Hollywood in late 2006, saying he would discuss it with collaborator will.i.am. Jackson served as executive producer[2] and the album's release was announced in an Epic press release on November 30, 2007.[3][4]

Jackson's website was redone[5] along with accounts on networking websites like MySpace and Facebook.[6][7] On February 3, 2008 a Sobe advert with Naomi Campbell and CGI lizards dancing to "Thriller" was aired, during Super Bowl XLII, to over 95 million Americans and again at the Grammys on February 10, 2008.[8] Odeon Cinemas in the UK ran free "Thriller" viewings on February 8 and February 9, 2008 and television adverts were aired throughout Europe.

Internationally, "The Girl Is Mine 2008" was released as a single, while in the United States, "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' 2008" was the first single. "The Girl Is Mine 2008" reached number two in Japan, three in Mexico, six in the Netherlands and top twenty positions in the major European markets.[9][10][11] "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' 2008" reached number three in Sweden, four in New Zealand, eight in Australia, and thirty two in Canada, but had disappointing sales in America.[12][13][14][15][16] These were Jackson's first singles since "One More Chance" in 2003.

Over one and a half million copies of Thriller 25 were shipped in a month.[17] In the United States, Thriller 25 was the second best-selling album of its release week, selling one hundred and sixty six thousand copies, just fourteen thousand short of reaching the number one position. It was unable to chart on the Billboard 200 due to its age, but entered the Pop Catalog Charts at number one (where it has stayed for seven weeks), with the best sales on that chart since December 1996. It also spent two weeks at number two on the Comprehensive Chart. This was Jackson's best launch since Invincible in 2001, significantly outperforming The Essential Michael Jackson which sold eight thousand first week copies in 2005.[18][19][20]

In Poland the album was certified gold, reaching number six on the chart on its release day, and is Jackson's highest charting album in Norway.[21] Thriller 25 has spent three weeks at number one in France,[22] two weeks at number one on the United World Chart, Argentina and Belgium.[23]

Thriller 25 came on CD and vinyl with seven bonus tracks,[24] a new song called "For All Time", Vincent Price's voice-over and five remixes featuring contemporary artists like Fergie and Akon.[25][26] It also includes a DVD featuring three award-winning music videos, the Emmy-nominated Motown 25 "Billie Jean" performance and a booklet with a message from Jackson.[2] "For All Time", a ballad supposedly dates from 1982, but leaks often credit it as being from Dangerous sessions.[27] Despite this, a new bridge was used in the Thriller 25 release.
