Hi. You speedied [[Third culture]] as "patent nonsense". It wasn't, I'm afraid. As it happens, we already have [[third culture kid]], and it seems nothing would need to be merged. Please be sure that something is actually nonsense (at least Google for it, for example) before deleting under that criterion. Dear Harro5, |
|||
I'm still fairly new to Wikipedia and have been writing some articles relating to the Australian designer and inventor John Joyce. He was the founder of Bowin Cars, an Australian Car Company that designed and manufactured a whole class of racing cars in the 60's and 70's. John Joyce also went onto invent the low Nox burner, a burner that significantly reduces Nitrogen Dioxide emission. The technology has been granted world wide patents and is a significant contribution to gas-fired heating industry. |
|||
He also invented the Set-n-forget Cooker - an article you have marked for deletion. The article is important as it relates to a body of John Joyces inventions. |
|||
My goal was to write articles on the individual inventions and lastly write the article on the principle inventor John Joyce. The main article on John JOyce would inter-relate the inventions throughtout his life. |
|||
I agree with you, by itself the Set-n-Forget article is a obscure and insignificant, but in context with all the other designs it can be very interesting. |
|||
Do you have any tips on the best way to approach my goal? |
|||
Regards, |
|||
Ashley |

Please don't trash this as vandalism!
Sorry Harro, couldn't find another way to send you a message rather than edit a page.. :P On the Caulfield page, in the Infobox (which is damn hard to edit) the word enrolment is incorrectly spelled 'enrollment' I think. I would just change that rather than bother posting this, but I'm a pretty new user and don't know where the Infobox stuff is - I can't change them.
- Feel free to remove this post completely, it's just a message.

Idea
I reduced it a bit from Selena using a direct link to the rfc, which I think was going too far, perhaps I could replace the Stalin image with one of a userbox. I'm going to let people know that I participated in this, but I try to consider myself a reasonable person, and I can understand how comparing something to Stalin would be inflammatory. karmafist 22:31, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
- Selena's a good kid, she just gets too fired up. Anyway, let me know what you think now. I don't particularly agree, or for that matter enjoy being around, Kelly or others like her, but I can definately understand her issues with how frustrating the internal workings of Wikipedia can be at times. Thank you for your kind words, please let me know if I can assist you in the future.karmafist 22:39, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome, Happy New Year, my friend. karmafist 22:56, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
I strongly advise you to file some sort of RfC or RfArb against this user, who in my view should be indefinitely blocked for the worst case of WP:POINT and WP:NPA I have ever seen on Wikipedia. I'm a rational admin, and have only blocked trolls to date, but I can't help but look at this user as wiki-stalking you, and don't want to stand idly by. Maybe if they file a request for arbitration against you I will make a statement against her poor poor behaviour in these matters. Harro5 22:01, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
- I do not feel that there would be any benefit to taking such punitive measures against Ms. Kyle. I am content to allow the community to decide what, if any, action should be taken in relation to her conduct. Kelly Martin (talk) 22:37, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

New to Wikipedia and need help
I am brand new to Wikipedia. I thought I would begin with "Tiger Woods." I would like some more feedback on the decision process to delete my additions by reverting to prior text.

Do I need to be "registered" in some manner to make additions? Is there a style guide users need to use? Did you consider my additions factually untrue or simply extraneous? Do inputs to Wikipedia need to be documented in some manner for sources? Did I use material not in the public domain?
I am astonished and impressed with your energy and enthusiasm. Congratulations on your efforts.

Great idea to give the discussion new start. Thanks. Larix 09:08, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed, seems to be off to a good start. Suggest that you archive the older version of the page though, just as Paul did for Kelly's RFC... ++Lar: t/c 21:21, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- K, then maybe just a link to it somewhere on the page is all that's needed, as I missed it. (PS I am watching this page, you can reply here, I will see it) I see the link there now so either I was blind before, or it got added, thanks in either case! ++Lar: t/c 22:26, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
Orange Bowl
Thanks! I was actually at the game—my parents surprised me with tickets to the game for Christmas, and we all went down. Possibly the most stressed out I've ever been in my life. Anyway, nice work on the Paul Posluszny article; if I get a chance I'll add some of his stats from over the last few years, and then maybe put it up for WP:DYK. --Spangineeres (háblame) 23:48, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Portal:Schools
I've been browsing the School portal and was wondering what the process for making a school into a showcase is. Is it similar to the featured article process? Please reply on my talk page. WikiProject Organized Labour
Hi Harro5, I noticed an old note you left at Talk:AFL-CIO, so I thought I would mention WikiProject Organized Labour to you. It's only been running for a couple days but I thought you might be interested. Cheers. --Bookandcoffee 23:39, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
Advice
Noticed that you're the admin doing many of the speedies for redirects lately. Just wanted to check that I'm going about it in the proper manner or if there's a page you can refer me to with more on it — trying to remain consistent with WP norms. Deadsalmon 22:50, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
Major overhaul at Plano Senior High School
Just thought I'd drop you a line lettign you know that I got around to making big changes at the PSHS article. These were the concerns you had earlier; I've written what I've done to address them.
- any more notable graduates - taken care of, we have five now, which is reasonable
- the history section is a little bare - this was tonight's big edit, what do you think?
- some more info on academics - this still needs to be done, but as I said before, is very easy
- add a heading to the football table - football table completed converted
Let me know what new changes should be made to the article. Thanks so much! Scm83x 13:55, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
- Wow! Thanks so much for selecting the article for featured status on the schools portal. I just added a little bit more... I hope I did it right, as I noticed that you were the only editor of the page before me. I added the founding date, and a short mention of the football team. I know it's the schools portal, but I think a small mention of the football team is warranted. I'm not sure of policy on this, so let me know if I messed up there. Thank you so much again! — Scm83x talk 07:38, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
CDIH.net
I am curious as to why this entry was deleted. it wasnt an advertisement. it was a historical reference to a period in time held very dearly by the 2500 past and present members. I am currently working on a major update of the entry and would hope that it wouldnt be deleted by someone who is not knowledgable of its history and origins.

Playwright vs. Playright, and your attack on my work
Dear Harro5, in 23 articles, I changed instances of "playright" to "playwright". In one article, on Caulfield Grammar School, there was a publishing company which, according to research I did at the time, actually spells its name with "Playright", and I inserted a note to warn editors not to change it. Then you flamed all over my work. Should I not have changed "playright" (which is not an English word) to "playwright" (which is an English word)? Should I not have put a note in the Caulfield article about the unusual spelling of the company name? Should I make other editors do their own research on that name when they notice it? Should I let the editors who notice it and who don't bother to research it change it to the English word, so it is no longer the name of the company? Please take a long, hard look at what I did, and what you did, then explain in better detail what mistake was made, who made it, and what steps should be taken to correct it. Chris the speller 04:56, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
- By the way, I was checking the quality of your work, just to see if there is some higher standard that I should be shooting for, selected one of your recent changes at random, and it was John Ashcroft. You might want to take another look at that to see if the result is what you intended. Chris the speller 05:18, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
- Apology accepted, thanks for straightening it out. It was not the best way to meet a fellow editor, but at least we met. Good luck on Wikipedia, and elsewhere. Please consider me a resource, should a question ever arise. OK, get back to work! Chris the speller 17:40, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Meredith Belbin deleted, why?
Sorry for the trouble, but I can't find any mention of a reason for deleting the article on Meredith Belbin. Could you provide any info on either the reason or where to find out the reason?
I've been trying to find information on Belbin's team roles, but the mentions in wikipedia seem to point to the Meredith Belbin article. I'm reluctant to add an article on the team roles as the deletion of the Meredith article indicates there may be wider problems.
Edited After a bit more reading, I found the reasoning here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log/delete&page=Meredith_Belbin
I've left this post in case someone else comes by with the same question, but feel free to remove if needed.
Thanks lots — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adeio (talk • contribs)
- Hi Harro5, Looking at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Meredith Belbin it seems the delete was correct (assuming that there wasn't a valid page somewhere in the history), but that the page shouldn't have been protected against recreation. While I don't like Belbin's theories, he is notable. (For eg, 22,500 google) Regards, Ben Aveling 12:23, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi my dear Harro!
Hi, my dear Harro! Thank you so much for the extremely kind (and undeserving) words you've dedicated me - you've surely bolstered, my ego =) As you will notice, I simply couldn't help but to tamper a little with your page. Can you tell a sick perfectionist? Anyway, please feel free to revert the changes if you don't like them. And please, allow me to tell you that I absolutely love! the color theme you've come up with. I tend to rely too much on blueish ones myself, and I might get somewhat repetitive. Your idea is very innovative, and beautiful in my eyes. You're welcome to drop by my talk page any time you wish =) Kisses! - Phædriel ♥ tell me - 02:23, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
- Harro, hun, I'm still somewhat concerned whether it was correct to retouch your page without your express consent... Did you like it, or do you want me to revert it? I hope you didn't mind, but I really really wanted to thank you in some way your kind words... Hope you're doing fine. Kisses! - Phædriel ♥ tell me - 23:28, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
- Again, you're too kind, hun =) I'm so glad I was able to help you and make you at least a little happy. Thanks for putting my mind at rest. Please, visit me every now and then - it's always comforting to see a friend. Kisses! - Phædriel ♥ tell me - 23:57, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I noticed an old debate about someone's story that was deleted due to a "vanity" rule. What is this vanity rule please, and what is the reason for it? Is it to help save disk space? Many thanks, --Rebroad 21:29, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
Entry on "Philosophy of computer science"
Dear Harro,
I've noticed that you've deleted my entry on the philosophy of computer science. The event is listed in the deletion log as follows:
22:36, 23 January 2006 Harro5 deleted "Philosophy of computer science" (CSD A8. content was: '{{db-copyvio}}')
I understand from the code 'db-copyvio' that you suspect that the entry was a copyright violation of the web page in the URL you quoted.
You were right: The entry in Wikipedia repeats the definition we gave in our web page. Since I wrote both, your suspicious is correct. However, how can I be violating my own 'copyright'?
In addition, our Web page in pcs.essex.ac.uk is evidently NOT commercial, so I fail to understand the reasons for the speedy deletion.
I am confident that the Wikipedia entry I wrote is current and in good size, but I will be happy to extend it. I will be happy to extend it with more material but I would like to prevent this unfortunate event from repeating itself.
I can be contacted at eden-at-essex.ac.uk.

An Esperanzial note
As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.
In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)
Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Thor Misen
Could you please restore the page on Thor Misen which you deleted - I am the poet, and thought that it might help me expose some new people to my work. You can read my work on www.thormisen.com - I don't have the money for marketing or publicity.
I've quickly added a number of images I got from the school archivist. In addition to the images I've got quite a bit of history to flesh out the history section. Could I get a read-through from you for the rest of the article so I can get an idea of what you think I need to work on after the thin history? Thanks again! Staxringold 04:09, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

- User:Staxringold suggested on my talk page that one of the photos from Scotch College be the featured photo for the schools photo. Do you agree, and if so, could you please feature it there. Thanks, --HamedogTalk|@ 08:27, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Reversion of edits
I would like to ask why you reverted my edits on the Portal:Schools Showcase articles? I simply added the name of another school, Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas that cleary meets the characteristics of good quality and is better than a couple of those listed. If you are not allowed to add a school then it should say so on the article and give information about the proper procedure of nominating one. Next time rather than just reverting it could you please leave a message on my talk page about why as it is proper procedure. Thank you. JCP2 is here!
I know you probably won't be able to contribute very much as you know little about the school, but I just wanted to let you know about this as it has to do with schools and Wikipedia. At last after much request JCP2 has been created. If you who don't know, JCP2 is a special sub-project dedicated to the development of the article into a featured article. JCP2 is not a WikiProject but rather a unique place to discuss and plan out the development and collaboration on the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas article. JCP2 is an effort to move beyond the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas talk page and create a forum for improvement and growth of the article. Please add you name to the list of participants on the project page if you are interested. Thanks and I look forward to your help and hard work. Another Esperanzial note...
Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".
The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.
Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

POV on AFL articles

Tom Hawkins
Hi Harro5. I have been talking to Rogerthat on User Talk:Rogerthat and User Talk:Meegs about your edit that changed Tom Hawkins from a biography of a Aussie football player into a redirect. I know there's some history between you two, but I just want to talk about this one page. Would it be ok if we did one of the following?
- Restored the article with a disambiguated name, Tom Hawkins (footballer) or something
- Restored the article to Tom Hawkins and put it up on AFD
The football player looks pretty marginal to me too, but at least two of its editors have expressed stong feelings since your edit, and I'm sure would like the forum to defend it. ×Meegs 10:02, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

It is obviously accepted on Wikipedia to insert a comma in. Please stop changing this, as I just have to revert your edits. Thanks. Harro5 05:46, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- How is this "obvious"? I see both versions with and without a comma. Most style guides explicitly disallow the comma, and I couldn't find an explicit rule either way on Wikipedia. Could you please explain why you "have to" revert my edits? Harro why do keep altering my Brendan Joseland page into a stub? It took several hours to complete and the stub asks the reader to expand it, which is what I already have done. Is there something that needs changing?

Hi I am just curious why did you close a AFD after an hour and a half? According to the Deletion policy early closing are allowed for examples such as: a clear consensus for speedy deletion, a clear consensus for a speedy keep, or a consensus for a redirect. This was not speedy delted, but normally deleted and should have remained for the full 5 days. Mike (T C) 02:13, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi, Harro5
You deleted The Hemobag but I have permission from the company to create the wikipedia entry.
Although the Hemobag is a commercial product, it is legitimately one of about 3 ways to process and transfuse a patient's own autologous blood during surgery. Moreover, the article is loaded with valuable background information on blood salvaging and educational references on "bloodless surgery" and bloodless surgey websites and also takes a neutral point of view on the product.
I note that wikipedia has other entires on blood salvage companies, most notably [Haemonetics]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haemonetics They have a company entry with none of the educational material that I used in the Hemobag entry. Seems weird to me!
I think the Hemobag should be reinstated. What's needed to make it acceptable? Thanks.

Radio Five Live
Why did you delete the BBC Radio Five Live article when you are Australian and a high school student?
Hi. You speedied Third culture as "patent nonsense". It wasn't, I'm afraid. As it happens, we already have third culture kid, and it seems nothing would need to be merged. Please be sure that something is actually nonsense (at least Google for it, for example) before deleting under that criterion. — Matt Crypto 10:37, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Dear Harro5,
I'm still fairly new to Wikipedia and have been writing some articles relating to the Australian designer and inventor John Joyce.
He also invented the Set-n-forget Cooker - an article you have marked for deletion. The article is important as it relates to a body of John Joyces inventions.
My goal was to write articles on the individual inventions and lastly write the article on the principle inventor John Joyce. The main article on John JOyce would inter-relate the inventions throughtout his life.
I agree with you, by itself the Set-n-Forget article is a obscure and insignificant, but in context with all the other designs it can be very interesting.
Do you have any tips on the best way to approach my goal?
Regards,
Ashley
